Hey guys. Just posting to see if anyone in the Wellington area knows much about suspension set up and could be bothered giving me a hand setting up my pro twin for my weight and riding style etc.
This bike is a 2002 GT650R and is surprisingly pretty fast for a Pro Twin. It just handles like the pig it looks like at the moment. It's heavy and I wont be able to get around that but the suspension can be fixed. Basically the front end wasn't stopping me from braking reasonably hard and didn't feel too bad but the rear suspension was all over the show. Mid corner it was like riding a wave, it would wallow around. It also seemed to squat as soon as I hit the gas and I couldn't get the front end to stop skipping exiting a corner.
I am new to racing at Manfeild and it was my first time riding the bike, and on the race day I only got down to 1.21 short track - which I was disappointed with as I was roughly 2 seconds faster at the test day. I just can't race for peanuts in the wet (never used wets before) and the 5 lap races I hardly got a chance to relax and get used to it however I was dropping a few tenths every lap in both races.
I am short as hell on cash as I am a student who has literally poored my life savings into this. I have had a years bucket racing experience which has gone really well for me and my riding and I own an R6 which I have done track days on, and believe it or not the rear suspension on my R6 is crap but I haven't under-steered out of corners like I was at VMCC round 1 and I wasn't even pulling awesome lap times.
Cheers guys, any help appreciated!
