After moving to the Hawkes Bay 3 years ago to get away from the shit Manawatu weather
( lived there for 25 years), I recall that at some time they raced buckets at the Shirriffs Rd kart track some time during the late 1980's?
Do they still do this? If not, is it worth approaching someone there with a similar proposal that has seen the Roy's Hill track used by both karts and buckets so sucessfully?
I had a kart around 1994-5 and it was a good track, as good as Roy's Hill.

I don't know what the deal is there. I haven't heard of any racing out there. Though there is a few bucketeers in palmy, and loads more that aren't too far away. Maybe it is worth inquiring ?

My general gut feeling is that we would be pushing sh!t up hill; with the manawatu kart club. the same group of people still run the track (that threw us of last time, late 90's).

Maybe a few of us could try and organise a demo day with the kart club??? Show off a few of the bikes/riders and go through the rules etc and see where it leads us
I'll put my hand up (I still know some of the kart club members) and it would be nice to have something around here for a change.

Why did they get kicked out last time?

I checked the track on google earth looks like a workout. Would be great to have another track close.

When I was having my ride around the lower N.I. before Easter, I stumbled across the track. didn't really feel comfortable walking around it, so just stopped and jumped the fence to check it out briefly. Looked like a lot of fun and pretty well set up (no karts running, it was a week day).

main reasons (from memory):
damage to the track, attitudes of the organisers (not sure what that meant) & $$ not being paid.

Yip it is actually quite a fun track, with some interesting elevation changes and flowing corners.

Anyway, I go and have a chat with some of the lads and see what we could do to sort this out.

watch this space.

There had been cases of people riding the track unauthorised. Not sure if they were club members or just local hoods. It is a great track. M, How the hell did you 'stumble' on that track? you must have been seriously lost.

Sorry not much progress yet, missed the club meeting which didn't help..
I've started to put a formal letter to the kart club together (which is what I was suggested to do).
From the quick discussion that i have had, it not going to be a over night thing, as its not really a "money issue" like other clubs around the country.
