What the hell is that all about?
At Noel Leemings last week (spending Fly Buys) and had a look at the all new 3D TV.
Personally, I will never fork out the thousands to get into the coming craze.
$120 for a pair a glasses!!....if you are a family of six, theres $720 right there!

They showed the State of Origin in 3D last night in Aussie, a one off I would imagine. But those that watched it will probably rush out and spend.....suckers!
Only DVD's will be avaliable in 3D here in NZ, regular programming is a while away yet.

While its pretty cool, its a big na from me.
Whats sort of dork would you feel sitting at home wearing special glasses while watching TV?

It probably is yes....
And yes it is awesome to watch.
They had a split screen to view, the non 3D bit was not as clear as you would like so, buying a 3D capable TV as your on TV would not be the best move.

The 3DTV I tried at HN could apply the effect to any media displayed on the TV.

It was quite impressive, Not overly expensive and whether in 2D or 3d the image quality was damn fine.

I'm not about to rush out and buy one, but next time I'm TV shopping it will be a 3DTV, however I expect a decade from the TV I just bought.

Also, The glasses sucked, My sunnies cost $20 and are far more comfortable.

A surprising percentage of the population suffers from what is known colloquially as "lazy eye". This means that even though both eyes work, they don't have properly functioning stereoscopic vision. Such people would be completely wasting their money buying a 3D TV, and would be recommended to have an eye test first. Or, if they're cheap buggers, they could get somebody to take their photo with a flash camera and see how many red eyes are staring back in the resulting photograph.

I've never paid for a TV in my life, there is always someone giving away old technology to get the latest.I hope when they are dumping those old 3D sets they have the glasses too, otherwise I'll have to scrounge for them separately.

I have a very dominant right eye (FUCK YOU AA AND YOUR STUPID EYE TEST MACHINES!) and I really struggle with the traditional 3d setup (the stupid green lens/red lens glasses), but I saw a 3d movie at the cinema the other day and was well impressed. The glasses are totally different (the tv ones seem to be the same). The image is phased vertically, instead of horizontally so it doesn't affect those of us with 'bung eye'.

The glasses were uncomfortable as hell though. Kept falling down my nose. That was an irritation.

HD is but a dream, we operate an I have no idea how old, clunking box, no flat screen moderness in this house hold.

Imagine our delight to be in a store with all the latest technology. Went into the little booth with the demo 3D screen, put on the glasses and stared at the screen. I said to Maha, this looks out of focus to me, he muttered something about moving backgrounds creating 3D effect or something. I left the demo spot feeling a bit superior actually, 3D is rubbish and all that sort of thing.

Hanging in the TV department imagining what it might be like to actually own one of these high def TV's let alone a flat screen and I caught a demo on how 3D works. I grabbed Maha back to the demo area and helped him put on his glasses, apparently you have to push a button to turn them on :o
So we saw 3D and we left the store with our flybuys purchased frying pan still dreaming flat screen but totally convinced 3D is not for us

I have a question. How the hell do you use these new fandangled 3D glasses if you already wear glasses to see?

See to me, if you want 3d you have to be immersed in the experience. If shit ain't flying at ya and around ya, there's no point. Meaning if you really want to experience 3d you have to buy a big fuck off set (easily 60+ inch for some lounges). Or sit 3 feet away from a 40 inch.

Personally I think it's dumb that you have electronic glasses. They should have worked out a way so you could just use el cheapo's like the movie theaters.

I think 3d is making film makers lazy. Instead of doing great stories, they throw in spiders jumping out at ya just to make you jump so you forget about the crap story lines.

I wonder what Origin looked like in 3d. I think sport would be the best for 3d.

As silly a question as it is... Are the glasses for the TV the same as the ones used at the cinema? if so i'll drop my sister a line because you get to keep the 3D specs from the movies you watch in the UK... and whilst big they're Michael Caine jobbies, they feel and look much better than those you have to return at the movies over here...

Have a look in Normon Ross, they are part of the HN group but there are some real bargains to be had.

And wherever you buy from, get em to play a blu-ray (I suggest Avatar for best comparison) though a few screens and see if your eyes can tell teh difference, On paper a full HD screen is superiour but twice the price, In the flesh it maybe a different story.

I believe modern 3D movies require modern 3D glasses, and you don't get to keep them.

Our local cinema has said they won't be getting 3D tech any-time soon as the projector+screen required is a $300 000 package, and they needed a pair of $80 glasses for each seat in the theatre.

Best thing I ever did to a telly was plug it into a really good surround sound stereo. No matter how good the picture, it's still just a telly & you get used to your super duper pin sharp picture in a matter of hours. I have to hide behind the couch watching The Pacific, great.

I've got a full-hd media box... just need the TV top go with it (got the amp surround etc...) it does upscale well, but would rather get the native 1080p out of it, make it work for its money... get the best out of my hd-dvd's :)

About to get Sky installed to, so will probably get HDi... although not sure how much is broadcast in 1080 at the moment...

The best apllication for 3D tv is for gaming consoles.

Almost all games now are rendered in 3D so the transition would be easy.

I might even think about getting one just for that reason alone.
Although Sony and microsoft would charge an arm and a leg for the games.

I have a non-HD projector in my cave, Though its resolution is higher then the DVD standard. I made the entire wall into a screen, floor to celiing by covering it with plywood, a skim of plaster and then 3 layers of grey paint with a slight tint of blue. Shes the epitome of budget but its damn fine. Paired that up with an Amp and speakers from Trademe, a PC, and a freeview box and I'm set for life.

I use it for everything from surfing the net, listening to music, watching TV, watching DVD's, playing video games.

i have a lazy eye, and expected that 3d movies would make me ill, or that i wouldnt see the effects [i cant do magic eye pictures, no matter how hard i try, and used to have trouble with the red/green 3d images] but i was able to enjoy toy storys 1 and 2 to their full expectation. i cant wait to get a 3dtv, but only when they come down in price. ive just bought a flat screen late last year, so expect to have it for number of years yet. when i do upgrade, my current tv will be passed to my folks. i also want to wait until 3d movie releases become more common. i mean, avatar wasnt even released in 3d, which seems pointless. no point owning a 3dtv if you dont have movies to watch.

Do you need special eyewear to view?
To me, watching TV with the 'Buddy Holly' look is about as dorkus as those who walk around with blue-tooth.
Some things are just not that important.

No eyewear needed according to this report (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1282604/Hologram-TVs-IN-action-development.html). It's a bit of a way off at the moment but it is coming. Yup, I know what you mean about the dorkus value.

Fuck me. That 3dtv is realistic.
The state of origin game that was broadcast, was so realistic and just like being there, that at the end of the game I discovered that my wallet had been stolen!
