aye dogs... was worried that they're on the path of escalation... first ice cream, next some poor fuckers life for a flake and some hundreds and thousands... and like you say, a slap on the wrist...

Okay....things are getting worse and worse...

Three girls led a gang of teenagers who threatened an Auckland takeaway owner with a gun and hammers last night - before making off with bags of icecreams.

Will the sprinkles melt? That's what I want to know.

I imagine our resident takeaway icecream expert will be along shortly to clarify.

I'm picking we'll hear more and more stories like this - they'll be convinced in their own minds that it wasn't such a big deal ('cos no one got hurt ay, and it wuz only ice creams auw). Not a fricken clue (or care) about the stress they cause to their victims, and probably well aware of the likelihood that sweet jack all will be done to deter them once caught. These kids know their standing with the law and laugh at it.

This happened before in a south Auckland liquor shop, except the poor owner of the shop was unlucky enough to get shot and he died before medical help arrived.

The government reacted by blaming liquor stores for existing, and tightening licensing applications.

Maybe this means we will have to ban ice cream store as well ?

Or should we actually, eventually blame criminal behaviour ?

One thing I know for certain. If the owner defended himself HE would be the criminal.

Last year in Ranui someone held up at gun point one of those strawberry stalls that are on the side of the road. Could be the same people and now thier escalating to harder stuff...icecreams.

How much of a litany on the West Auckland school system is that?

They can't get the till open, so they pinch ice creams.

FWIW, a mate of mine tells me they are the nicest takaways in the area.

Do they not teach "till opening" in class these days?

Dammit! I might have to write to an MP about this lack of education!!
