oil-->10w40 vs 20w40 and others

Hey Guys!

what's the difference between a 20W40 MC-oil to 10W40?A Mechanic told me it will work on my bike with no problem...please help, I dont want to end up with a real headache once I have problem with the bike after change oil... :ride: TIA

I cant find a replacement oil filter too, the Oil filter attached is B6Y1-14-302 which is a replacement oil filter (made in Japan) for a Mazda RX-7 and MX-5 car.

It shouldn't make a difference where you are,the first figure in the oil type is the cold flow,the 2nd figure the hot flow - so it's only in really cold weather that the 20/40 would be thicker than the 10/40.The B6Y1-14-302 fits most Mazda's from the 80s to 90s and some Mitzy's too.The Ryco number is Z79X,but the genuine Mazda one has a smaller canister.That filter is used on a lot of Honda bikes.

Be sure and use the recommended viscosity range, e.g. 10w40, 20w50, etc. for the climate in your area. In general, to protect your motor use the heaviest oil you can that still meets the manufacturer's guidelines. For example, 20w50 is better in warm weather than 10w40, because it gives you a thicker oil cushion between bearing surfaces at operating temperature. For racing, a thinner oil will offer less resistance and thus more power, but will offer less protection.

Make sure you use M/C oil with a wet sump.

Thanks as well! Im a memebr of the motorcyclephilippines community, but there are only few posers/members who have the same bike as mine. So i came up to joining here, because I found friendly people in this community too which has the same bike as mine, like sir Erik, Blakamin, Jrandom and others.

I think what's poured into my engine is a 20w40 grade oil that's why sometimes I find it hard to start in the Morning since its still cold. Also i need a bit of choke to start it in the morning, but im about to change plugs too as soon as I find the right oil filter.
