Doing a trip to Auck and North from Canterbury soon within aonly 5 days and it looks like sometime in the middle of my 2000km trip I'll be hitting 6000 on the odo, which is when the service is required . Won't have time to get my '09 Busa serviced anywhere enroute as we probably won't have time.
Probably hitting around 7,000 k's + when I get back home and can roll it in for the service , any problems with being a little over the service interval ? Tips ?

Change your oil and filter before you leave.
Check with your dealer to clarify whether running over will void your warranty, if that's what's worrying you.

Yep, check with your dealer first...warranty and all that. I went over by 400 odd k and that was no problem...enjoy the ride!

Mate, you've clearly fucked it. I'll take it off your hands in return for a small consideration.

Hitcher, I'll do the paperwork in the morning to arranger the transfer if you can organise the bank details mate !. Seriously I've just checked the BT-015 on the back and I may have to look at some new rubber before I leave. 3200kms only and it's already looking a bit sorry.....this trips gonna cost me a little more than I've planned
Won't be another BT-015 though .......

I'd probably service before hand if possible, what with it being the early kilometres of the bike. I'd make a slightly bigger consideration than ol hitch :D

An 09 model, and hasn't had its first full service yet? Service it before you go. It won't cost any more or less by servicing before rather than after.

I think it's had it's first major service already. It is at 5,000kms now.
Get a Speed Triple - 10,000km service intervals.
Seriously, I'd get it done first since I'm assuming the bike is under warranty. This covers any issues. I'd probably personally change the oil & filter anyway if close to the recommended change interval before a 2,000km trip.

Oh dear. If you go over without servicing it, you will be struck down as you ride - yea even as you ride through the valley of death! The skies will darken, the mountains will be split asunder and fire will rain down upon thee from the firmament!!
Repent of your evil ways ere the lightning burns thine arse off!
oh..err...oops! Ahh hehehe... sorry, wrong forum...
I'd do it before I left, meself...

Don't worry about it. Do it when you get back. They're bullet proof.

Well, Katman thinks they have reeds. And he's always right...

The have reeds on the inlet side of things, and exhaust power valves.

They still do. It's just that the exhaust power valves change the size of the holes for you to increase low end power (valves shut, small exhaust port), valves open- larger exhaust port for good top end power.

According to my neighbour (owner of an RG) the power valves are a pain in the arse...

Ring your dealer - I'm sure they will be happy to take your money a bit earlier than needed .....
Check your owners manual to see what actually gets done on a 6k service - I'd say oil and filter then they piss about for an hour putting grease in the footpeg pivots and tightening and lubing your already correctly tightened and lubed chain.
I had Suzuki that was serviced - the day before I had cleaned the chain with a toothbrush and kero and relubed it and tightened it to factory specs. I told them to leave the chain alone in the service as I'd done it. On collection I was told it needed a new rear axle nut as it had stripped when they tightened it up after lubing and adjusting the chain ..........
Years later I am still annoyed at that and the discussion that followed.

Weird, his arse already comes naturally fitted with a suitable valve - has he possibly been upgrading it with a power valve for high speed racing shits?

I don't think so...he just bought it as a communter. But it mostly sits out the front of his place as he cleans it...I know he has had fairly major problems with it though...

You should inform your neighbour that that's not where they are supposed to be installed.
And on the one-upmanship stakes, an Aprilia Shiver has 20,000km service intervals.

I suspect its had its 1000km service, which is effectively a first oil change and check that all bolts are tight. The 6000 km service is the first full service and should be done at 6000km or 6 months which ever comes first.

Yeah, the first real service is due at 6K , Warranty issues aside , I'll check with my dealer, I was wondering if the Bike would be Ok mechanically doing the 7 or 8k thing before the 6k service , thats all. Bike is standard though I have installed a K@N airfilter which does'nt need replacing, I'm told , for about a zillion years.
One of the other points on this thread was power valves on the two strokes ...not sure if anything was resolved but here's one of my Bikes where it works real good .....and always has ....the green one

No worries. I've never seen a badly built Busa. And if it's gonna break due to not being assembled properly it would've shit it's self by now. Remember...even Harleys don't require their second service until the get to 8000km's, and they're much harder on oil etc being air cooled.
So whilst I don't think you should go too many km's past the rec k's...it's not worth worrying about.

Thanks and all good to go then, I trust your advice .....
'Busas's are'nt indestructable though mate , the K6 I traded on my current machine was subsequently sold to a punter from South Canterbury earlier this year, he got around 100km from the shop and had to turn back. Big end bearings and all the Primary drive gears needed replacing and plus, two weeks and over $5K worth of parts ..... work that one out , only 19,500kms from new ...not my fault !

Wow, that would be handy with long distance riding
I hear the instruments also last 9 months, or is that 9 months to get them replaced? I get so confused about these things :shifty:

I'm told the original owner was an older guy and used to ride it all day in top gear at the 50k limit and twist the throttle like an automatic ( plenty of torque I guess ) ....for 9000 km's... then I bought it and, I guess I finished it off by riding it like I stole it.
Credit to the Bike shop that pulled it apart and fixed it at their expense ......
