What exactly do they check on bikes? Do they check fork seals, I need to fix mine but I wont get it done for a week or so and I need the warrant now.

no.. but putting a WOF on your bike by dodging the obvious faults doesnt make sure bike any safer either.

yup, they are sposed to check fork seals, wouldn't want oil leaking down onto your brakes would you? Take it in to the shop or diy, common bike so seals shouldn't be more than $50. Dunno what labour is on that though.

Depends on where you go,but yes they should be cheaking front and rear suspension so yes fork seals, steering head swing arm and wheel bearings, tyres, rims, ligths, horn, brakes etc but unfortunetly some places don't even cover that much

Just go get them done you can risk a wof inspection and you still have 28days to do any repairs required

I'm not trying to do that, I just need to know whether I need to get the fork seals sorted before I take it in for the warrant or if I can just do it when I originally planned. Don't reply if your just going to be obstinate.

Don't reply if your just going to be obstinate??? And kiwibikers post count drops 10 fold overnight!

ok.. if you want a serious reply.. take Dogs advice. just go get it done and then youll find out what else needs fixing at the same time. Or take it to VTNZ and tell them you dont want anyone riding your bike. They will check your tyres/lights/horn and send you on your way with a new WOF

Why do you need the wof? To prevent a parking ticket? If you get pulled up/have an accident and they see your vehicle wasnt up to wof standard you're fooked regardless of whether you had the sticker or not

Man there are a lot of pointless posts. This seems to be way over complicated. All I wanted to know was do I need to get my fork seals fixed before I take my bike in to get it's ticket so I'm not wasting my time. In answer to your question; I want to get my WOF because it is a major part of your vehicle being legal on the road. I appreciate what you're saying but I will be fixing up my fork seal, I just need a friends help to do it and it cannot be done straight away. I would imagine a police officer is more likely to notice an expired warrant than say "your for seal looks a bit leaky"

Unless they are are leaking terribly, just wipe the fork tubes down before riding to the testing station.

IF there's visible leakage from such a short ride then yes they should fail you - but more likely they'll be none the wiser - you get your warrant and get them fixed when you wanted to in a couple weeks time.

If it fails you've got 28days to have them fixed and re-inspected without having to pay for another inspection - in this scenario all you're out of pocket is some time.

If you want to hide it as much as possible

Lift the dust cap, clean up the seepage and bung a piece of rag in there for the wof.

Never done it myself but I probably would if I absolutely had to.

Should they check if your fork seals are leaking? Yes. Will they? You'll find out when you go...

Man there are a lot of pointless posts.Yeah, the first one being the most pointless. Go and look it up on the gubbermint website like everyone does.

Alternatively, try turning your brain on. Your suspension leaks oil in close proximity to the brakes... will you need to fix that for warrant? Well WTF do you think the answer is going to be???

I once got a WoF from Onehunge Testing Station (just before they became an AA branch) and my bike left a puddle of fork oil on the floor! They used to be the best place to get a WoF if you knew your own vehicle, as WoFs are really only aimed at those who are completely mechanically ignorant.
