View Full Version : 520 pitch chains in stock production
So the rules are out for 600 stock production!!!
Firstly, you must run standard pitch chains! Why? Every other class allows it (including pro-twins). The problem from a personnal perspective is that, I've had 520 pitch sprokets (4 front and 4 rear) on back order from the states for a couple of months. Guess what, they are arriving this week. So what am I going to do with all these sprokets - oh and the two chains I've brought to go with them!!!!! nice one road race commision.
Question, can I run a standard pitch chain with all these sprokets I've brought or am I going to have to go out and buy a complete new set?
I wont even mention the change to standard suspension (no ohlins) at the rear.
Looks like I might be having a truck load of expensive parts for sale some time soon. Oh well. Sorry personnal moan, but looks like I'll be spending even more money then I thought I would.

I'm confused.......four wines later....your whinging about ordering 520 sprockets and your bikes original configuration is 520......whats the problem?

Nah, stock production rules (as promulgated last year) allowed aftermarket suspension. It was the changes this year that changed it to stock suspension.
as for the chain pitch. My neck is being wound in as we speak. I did think stock on my bike was 530 however.
This is why I don't post on this website often, I always get it wrong.....:shit:

I don't think it matters anyway. I have always thought "chain pitch" was the width of the rollers i.e 520, 525, 530 etc. and apparently that is a common misconception.

Chain pitch is actually the distance between pins, so even if your bike comes with a 525 chain as standard (mine does), you can still swap to a 520 legally.

520/25/30 chain (are all same pitch) the distance between pin centres. The 20/25/30 denotes the width between the side plates and side plate thickness.
So if your 600 ran 525 or 530 chain/sprockets you can change to 520 and not break any rules............520 is best as its lighter..... a common size so all types of chain and all sprocket sizes are available.

Just a wee sidenote, check this before you go converting.....the stock 525 chain on my 10 is lighter than the 520 EK mxvz I replaced it with....in fact using a supersprox rear sprocket the whole 520 setup only knocked 20g off it....

It was a huge waste. However, if an International Airport was built at Ohakea, it would be next too the best maintanence team in the country for the planes, as well as security would be very high.
So sell of Wellington airport land for houses, and create a huge train transport centre, that High speed train rides transfer the passengers down to wellington, and all the frieght leaves from Ohakea to get around the country.

True......Death inc..... some of the stock stuff is very light these days........ but as you said you ended up saving 20g!!!!!!!
Some of the "high" end racing chains are quite heavy compared to some lower end products.
Still a much bigger range of rear sprockets available in 520 size though.
Not that you need such a huge range of rear sizes to race on tracks over here.
Back in the UK on my GSXR600 had to have 3 fronts and 8 diffent rears to get best gearing on all tracks.
