Supposed to be a fairly decent adventure mount. Got that little bit more grunt than a 250. Most were kick start.

Amen to that

There is D.P. bikes that have been on t/me for over a year, mostly overpriced. At the end of the day they are a luxury item, not a necesity for most people:yes:.
Sorry SheWolf for going off topic........Have you seen the Mondo Enduro dvd ? Round the world, 44000 miles in 440 days on DR350's. I rode one briefly and was happy with it, seemed to have enough power and felt planted, nice and light too

They are a pretty good bike, a bit tall though. Rosie thought about getting one & lowering it when we were shopping for the Sherpa but all the ones we saw for sale at the time were either road legal or electric start, never both.

Cheers

Rhonda - I had a 1999 DR350X before my current DR650 - this is a kick start only model and is fitted with a 'pumper' as distinct from a Constant Velocity carb.

Great machine - did 10,000 km on mine including riding it home from Taumaranui to the Hutt and many adventure rides including the CCA. Quite a tall machine.

Check out the DR350 thread on ADV Rider - I miss my 350 sometimes - on narrow single track - would like to have kept it - only sold it to gain more carrying capacity for the longer rides like the Dusty Butt and MMMMM.

Cheers Stephen aka Aslan :scooter:

ive had my dr350 for about 3 years but havent taken it offroad since ive had the xr650 - must give it a go tho to see how they compare. didnt quite have the power i was looking for but gave me the dirt bug that i lost about 15 years ago

just use it now to go to work on - kicks over easier then the xr

Shes all good, precisely why I thought I'd get feedback from you bods....

Mondo Enduro - read the book but haven't found the DVD anywhere yet - there are 5 kiwi buys riding 350s from Russia to London at the moment - they look like a good lil machine :Punk:

Gotta say i absolutely love dr350's ive owned two of them, great trail steeds and ive thought id like another one as an adventure bike, more comfy in the seat dept than my dr650 too!
about $2000 would be fair for a late 90's or 2000 model with road gear i reckon.
post '97 models are best as the came with cartridge forks.89, 90, and 91 models were
notoriously hard to start but suzuki replied with an uprated ignition, auto decomp setup
and shorter kickstart which cured all the ills and made them super easy to start .......
even by hand!!! so kickstart shouldnt put you off:innocent:

oooooo :shifty: hmmmmm  and other excitipated noises. Must go and try it on. Kick start would be a good fall back in the back of beyond, and something about the simplicity of them really appeals.

Go on! you know you want too!:msn-wink:

Peeteey down here has recently brought a dr350 & hes very happy with it.
Its taller than my lowered dr650 but still an OK height for me(Im just under 5'7'')

When I was umm...way younger I had a Honda xl500, a kick start awesome bike that I quickly mastered and I can start my sons xr650 sometimes.....:innocent:

I had a ride on a DR350 today and i was very impressed, it had a seat like a 525ktm so it was a tad taller the my XR6 and of course it was down on power compared to the XR but sh#t i absolutely loved it what a fantastic bike. the kick start was ssoooooooo easy to kick over and the handling was great, it soaked up the bumps and humps and handled the loose stuff with ease, cheap as chips to run, if i wasnt into the grunt of the XR6 i'd pick one of these up and tour the country no worries.

I had one (1991 model I think, or was it '93). Great offroad, but it never liked the constant throttle road stuff. Shit of a thing to start if stalled when hot. It might have just been that particular bike. I couldn't wait to get rid of it.

The DRZ400 I bought after it was a much better bike, but perhaps not for long distance adv riding.

Being a short bugger, I couldn't touch the ground on either (still can't on my DR650). :shit:

@ Shewolf...... If I had to replace the Big and I wanted a small trailie type bike that can do long distance then I would buy a dr350 in a heartbeat.
MrsJatz's one is quite tall but it's not an issue for us, aftermarket tank gives about 250-300 k's range and it's farkin fun on gravel roads :Punk: . The carb issue is just one of those bad luck things that seem to happen to me
Just my humble opinion....

To old and over priced it still requires rego & warrant .
Find a road legal Yamaha WR250F would be better

What a surprize its still forsale ! !

To much money for a 9year old trail bike...Im guessing to sell my Kawasaki 2008 KLX450R atm It would be a hard sell at $4500...Maybe even less ? ?

As a adv bike a WR250F would be pretty expensive to run and uncomfortable. A WR250R would be a much better option if you have the cash.

Yer but can you rego a KLX450R - I think not. The purpose of the bike is adv riding.

Thats the problem with this site "People thinking" Try not thinking your a FCKIN idiot ! !

You can obtain a MR2A for a KLX450R....I KNOW ! I have a MR2A !

My question for you DICKHEAD ? Is what can you do with a MR2A ? ?

Crazy Steve needs to change his tagline to 'needs to take his meds today'

Anyway, Shewolf, I spotted a AX-1 in Welly today with spoke wheels on it. I didn't get a chance to see what rim sizes they were but obviously either they came out with other options or it's possibly to replace the cast ones with spoke wheels ,hopefuly giving more standard knobbly tyre size options.

Jeez Bro - What's with that? Calm down. Now give us some more info on what you had to do to the KLX450 in regards to switch gear and indicators and whatever else to get it rego'd. I would like to know and I'm sure alot of others would also.

yeah...I'm also looking out for a 17" rim from an XL or XR (?) be the most sensible option to swap it out

So you got a form that you can fill in to apply to register your modified MX bike. Well done. I'll be much more impressed when you have a MR3. Shall I ring my colleges and get them to post you out the info you need.

Still wouldn't use it as an ADV bike. This thread was posted in the ADV forum. Oh that's right you don't bother thinking you just post random shit and annoy people.

crazy steve your an abrasive fucker arent ya? lol, i take your point tho... 3k is far too much for a 10yr old dog rooter thats unreg, about 6mths ago i rode a 2000 model with 385cc kit
(very reliable, unlike 440cc kit) and yoshi pipe, nice 'bars etc
and the bloke wanted $1500 for it...most realistic and couldve been re-vinned and road legal
for an easy $2k all told
