Purchased my brand new kawasaki ninja 250r , Having heaps of fun!
5 days of riding has netted me 1000km on it :D
Was wondering if anyone knew where I can buy a rear fender eliminator and a rear seat cowl in NZ?
And also any mods that would net me decent value performance gains.
Cheers

Hey man 2 weeks and I've done 1,600km! (That includes a trip down from Aucks. Did you buy it new? Join the Wellington Riders group on Facebook.. then they'll be another 250r.
Get the fender eliminator off ebay. there are different types but they pretty much all look good. The seat cowl you can get from Motorad for $250 or $190 (approx )shipped from Ebay.
There's a K&N High Flow filter on TM for $70 start. Get it cos I paid $159 at Welly Motorcycles. Also there's the option of an aftermarket exhaust if you got the dosh. And then a re-jet which I'll be doing in a weeks time!

Any mods you do are only going to give you 1 or 2 more horsepower. Save your money.

If you want to spend money on the 250r, spend it on the suspension. Far larger speed gains than spending it on power.

This is actually my first post but I too have just got my black Ninja. Just did the practical test on the weekend and will do the theory this week. Can't wait to get out there and ride it properly!
Why are the tail tidy's so expensive!? Is there a good cheap alternative?

I'm going if the weather holds up, otherwise will probably just hit the rimutakas on sunday.
Don't forget to join the 'Wellington 250 riders' group on FB so we can organize rides.

The Ninja is a great bike out of the box. Save every cent so that you can buy a better bike once you are done with the Ninja. Do not waste $$$ on 1 or two horses or the suspension. It is fine as is unless your weight is highly abnormal.
Then when the time comes your bike will be factory stock (that is what buyers want) so you will get max $ when you seel it and you will be able to afford a fantastic new bike. That is what I did and I could not be happier.

I agree, unless you wanted a cheap bike so bought one then sussed out it needed heaps and heaps of money spending on it so did and plan to keep it forever and ever and ever :scooter:

Yep, only the Euro/Jap/Thai versions have fuel injection. I'm dropping my bike off tomorrow morning and it'll be nice and rich by lunchtime...I doubt I'll be having lunch tomorrow :ride:

They handle perfectly, they run out of power before suspension. spend your money on cams.

spend youre money on safety gear, for you will not be riding the ninga anywhere near its limits before you are ready to ride something with a bit more junk in the trunk, and if you buy good gear it will last you many bikes to come :)

Keep it stock standard, you WILL get more for it once you are done with it, no one wants to buy a beginner 250 that has been "fiddled" with.Learn to ride it with skill, thats worth more than any jet kit, exhaust etc etc.

There are a few places you can get these if you want. Google ERMX- ERMAX, they are a french brand, also PowerBronze which are manufactured in UK. There are same ones available on Ebay.com as well. If you google you will find other suppliers as well. You can simply modify the stock ones and add a bracket manufactured at any sheetmetal shop.
I have done such many times, for those in Aucks, I Used a guy at Warkworth Sheet Metals named Rob. He is awesome bike customizer. He does pipes, brackets and any stuff you think of cheap as chips. He modified my stock cans as well for several bikes which saved me heaps.

Wow this bike has absolutely horrid stock tyres.
Have nearly killed myself numerous times, Especially coming out of a wet wellington at night, the bike becomes a pair of ice skates...
Which tyres are you guys running?
I've heard the speed demons are good stuff, I've also been told dunlop have some nice ones that go on the ninja but aren't available in New Zealand...
Opinions?

I've used the dunlops on my 250, good tyres. I prefer the sport demons I current have on though. :)

Don't spend your money on an obnoxious pipe like the twit I see riding around Vitoria/Ghuznee street on the red one every morning.
There's something particularly gay about having a bike that sounds like you're doing 280kph while snails are actually overtaking ya........

Goodness all this sage advice and it is all nonsense. The one single thing that will make your bike faster is you. Spend all your cash on training, every one you can do inc track TRAINING days (as opposed to track days). A damn good rider on a piddler will outclass an old fart with bad habits and little skill on a 1000 any day

Yeah I saw that bike on Monday goin down Victoria. Why would you race your bike in the inner city from light to light?
He's got a two brothers exhaust with no sound suppresor.. that is fucken loud! I know because I tried it for a day but couldn't handle the sound coming up the hill on the motorway.
As for tires, it looks like I'll go for Sport demons in a few weeks. I've started to notice every 250R in town sporting them
