View Full Version : Bike for a girlie? (new to biking)

Got a friend interested in getting herself a licence/bike.
Bike has to be:
-Faired
-Cheap
I'm thinking either a tidy FXR150, or if she can save up a bit more a CBR125. I'm thinking a Hyobag is a bit too big/heavy (she's not the biggest thing) and a ninja 250 is probably a little out of the price range. Opinions would be appreciated,
Cheers :)

The CBR125 is also part of Honda's current specials I think, $4500

However, I would really try to talk her out of a faired bike. I know girls like the pretty fairings, but they cost more when they get dropped (and learners usually drop their bikes).

You know girls and pretty things. Wouldn't be surprised if she sprayed the entire thing pink.
Budget is like student budget, so wouldn't be looking at anything new

FXR is cool.
Hard to drop, easy to pick up.

KRR150
Prettier than an FXR, and has more power, without being intimidating

How little? I am 5'2" and have a suzuki tu250 very economical good height and not bad looking. Try red barron if your in auckland. great for a learner too

I think she'd be somewhere from 5'-5'4" I'll take her out for a go on my old GT250R, around an abandoned carpark, to see how she goes.

a xvs250. I like mine and now looking at the 650 for my next bike.

I'm 5'4" and the hyo would have been too big for me when I first started. Perhaps look into a Kwaka GPX, same bombproof engine as they've put in the new ninja but with the original 80's style fairings.

Get a ZXR 250 best of the 250's as far as I have ridden...
you don't want to spend too much on a bike as most people flick them on once they have got their full licence.

As cliche as it may sound this Kawa is a really good bike to learn on. I have ridden 11000 k's on mine (just sold tonight) and it has been awesome- enough weight to let you know where your centre of balance lies, small enough for us shorter ladies, great looking, great handling and braking:yes:

The lowest bike she can buy is the Harley Davidson Roadster, at only 520mm seat height. Sadly while it is a wonderful bike and ideal for learners, it is not legal for her in we-love-you-so-much-you-cant-do-anything-land.
So get a P.O.S. bike.
Find an old chook-chaser,, 80-200cc road legal trail bike that she can learn on, and gain some real skills off-road. Then, when she has a full licence, it can go in the shed, and she can choose what she really wants.
The old chook-chaser will have taught her valuable riding skills. Its will have taken all the knocks, obtained 80 mpg, and still be great for a ride down the beach on a sunny summers day, or a perfect urban, buggar the kerb type commuter.

Tell her to get a SUZUKI - they are all girl's bikes.
Bahahahahahahahahaha
But I jest, and give a light hearted elbow into the ribs to my Suzuki riding comrades.
Seriously you should post a picture of this girl - so we can size a bike up for her of course.

But I jest and make a light hearted pervert styled joke.
I recommed one of those Suzuki Volty things.

zxr cbr fzr, best bang for 2.5k without being too smokey, and they make that high pitched whine that girls should feel naturally accustomed to

I learned on a kh125, little kawasaki 2 stroke..plenty of power for a learner, nimble, light, economical and they go forever on a small amount of maintenance.. Is there anything similar around on the market these days?

personally I'd suggest a spada for a first bike. Forget the fairing when you're just learning then if ya get keen trade it on something with the plastics and you'll sell the spada for what ya bought it for.

Ignore that cheeky drifter...yes I do have one and I LOVE THE WEE BEAST! I did buy a new spanker but there are loads of them around, older ones and at some good prices. Fantastic, lightweight(ish), (I lifted it when I lay it down), I'm 5'5" and it's perfect height. Throttle is user friendly.
At the end of the day she needs to try a few and it will come down to what she likes the look off. (well maybe)
