10 Sell gijoe1313 a new bike with a full tank of gas.

20 Say goodbye.

30 Expect a midnight text to say he made it to Wellywood safely.

GOTO 10

Yes, it's as BASIC as that (snigger!)

Yes, as I type, the mad pootler is getting his togs on, departing his storage shed (my place) and preparing to ride to Welly for a burger.

So, if you're near the BK in Courtenay Place around 1230 - 0130, head on in and make sure the paint has been scrubbed off the rubber.

And if you're on the route (somewhere near the back roads I am told) then keep an ear out for a giggling idiot on a shiny motorcycle, babbling forth about the power his crotch has attained today!

Bastard.

He sure does do some miles that man...

When he and Gremlin passed through Nelson last year, we went out for a bit. I was just about done at the end of the day but the two of them were only warming up...

Right, as at 7:53pm he is currently fueling up in Otorohanga.

Bucketing down, but this is good as it keeps the bike clean apparently.

Our adventuring ninja is now in Taumarunui, gassing up and gasbagging at the BP.

Weather has cleared up after Te Kuiti, and spirits are (as usual) still high!

Nothing can come between a man and his new bike burger!

He sure is one funy fella.....nice bike.

Question..........Top speed he will do while running in????

Bloody great evening for it...freezing out there and that wind...brrrr it's fierce.

We had some hail today, hope he doesn't get any of that...it may scratch his shiny new bike.

As at 10:20pm, our gallivanting guy is parked up at Ohakune to scrape the ice off his visor!

Reports of snow and hail have been received from him.

I am thinking it may in fact be a TWO burger trip!

Thanks for the updates so far...

flicked him a txt warning him of conditions, snow on desert road expected later etc, but it seems he already knows :D

Oh yes, the return trip could get a tad interesting......:cold:

At waiouru now.

Ice and snow have definitely slowed play, but of course will not stop our portly pootler!

Nutter34

What's the plan at this stage? Continue to Welly and spend the night, then return tomorrow or Sunday?

Gremlin
3rd September 2010, 23:16
har har, how little you know. I would be very surprised if he stays somewhere. He'll keep riding while there are roads and gas in the tank. When the gas runs out, he'll push until he finds more.

Cripes, what a strange idea.

Our mechanised marauder will continue with his plan, which in fact was to buy a pie in raetihi.

Now, knowing that the pie shop would be closed by the time he got there, he figured that he might as well head to Wellington for dinner, because by the time he got there, scoffed and took pics, the pie shop in raetihi would most likely be open on the return trip.

Nutter34
3rd September 2010, 23:27
BWAHAHAHAHAHA...

Good on him.

So, what's he say about the bike so far?

spacemonkey
3rd September 2010, 23:39
Well at this rate all the burgerbars in welly will be closed by the time he gets here.
Mind you there is always the 24 hour pie shop in Hataitai!! :Punk:

Word is, our camouflaged comrade rolled into wellywood at 2:15am safe and sound.

Unable to confirm at this time, the status of any burgers that may have been scoffed. Strongly suspect however, several pies may have been slaughtered en route.

Disturbing news.

I am informed by the rampant rider, that there was an incident on the journey.

He is ok, bike is ok, and they are fueling up in Taihape.

More details in the next bulletin!

Wonder if I should ring the dealer and book him in for a service Monday now... :D

First time I met GIJoe was at a party in Whangaparaoa, he arrived after taking a detour from Auckland to Kaitaia and then to the party, just because he could.

Heres a pic of that first night, Justin put tape on his head with his name on it so we knew who he was.

I will update ... but it appears no rest for the wicked yet!

I had just finished washing some of the mud encrusted on the Preddy (whose name is Cyndi or Cindi or Syndi ... not quite sure ... she'll let me know in due course). I proceed to start sorting out my gear. Muck, mud, grit and the whole nine yards .... out with the scrubbing brush when ...

I get a text from my friend Greentea to help her practise on her VTR250 (right, done that) ... whilst I am doing that, zeocen rings up to ask me to help him put his new bafflerectomised cans on his Viffer800 ... so of course, I agree (still no sign of sleep)

And to top it all off ... it appears I have been shanghaied for a blind date this evening! I even had to ring and arrange a restaurant booking and all!

Well, if things go swimmingly well - I probably won't get much sleep later on tonight? :innocent: :devil2:

... fear not, my account of what I consider my most epic (in my mind anyway) pootle evar will be forthcoming.

(now where is the bloody address of that japanese restaurant :slap:)

Hook, line, sinker and sashimi I was!

gangtackled by two ladies who are there to ensure proprietor and decorum is rather like trying to eat your marshmallow at the fire with two sadists tapping it off your stick! :shifty:

Ah well as those two old salts in those cheesy ads say "good things take time"

And as for my tale of my travels, I have now been without sleep for a certain number of required hours and will catch on them now (as Donor has stolen my line, I shall simply state that the strain of my steps across the steppes has stopped me in my stride, so I should sidle off and satiate my sleep with slumbers and no small amount of susurrations).

So there! For tomorrow is for later and yesterday was done, and presently say Adieu!

I'm haven't been that fond of dual compound tyres on my XB in the past because they fluffed up the edges way before the middles were spent.

Got Avon VP2's on at the moment and they seem to be hanging in quite well edge-wise though.

Nada freeway either..

Gremlin
6th September 2010, 17:02
I think my Scorpion Syncs are supposed to be dual compound but I still run the centres out first (especially when touring, as I carry panniers etc, so a lot of weight). I lean her over plenty, but over long distances, its certainly best to be on the centre of the tyre as much as possible, since you have the best grip with least risk.

Now if only Pirelli would gift me the tyres... I've just finished the 6th set I think? since 2 October 2008. Got another 2 sets sitting in the garage, ready to go on as soon as I need them :ride:

a "bit of topic..lol"

we have 2 sets of Angles, one on the XB and one on the CR... both seam to wearing nicely...! i would have expected the CR's rear to chop out faster, but they both seam to be holding up (and ON) very well!!

missed out on the last track day at Manfeild, i was very interested to see what i could do on the XB ....(was hoping to do around 1:20ish)

My Dunlops (sportmax/roadsmart http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tirecatalog_tire.asp?id=101 ) are dual compound, and I'm happy with everything... except for a much greater tendency for them to lock up and skid a bit if I'm being silly while the bike is upright. i.e. I think the centre compound might be a little too "hard".
