TRTNR - The Real Thursday Night Ride 2010/2011

Woohoo! I can hardly contain my excitment. After five years of non attendance it's going to be awesome to go for a good fang on Thursday nights again.

From memory, this ride was usually frequented by people not too concerned at the pace of others, and not given to having a bitch at the odd wheelie or two. Same same? That being said the pace was known to be quick from time to time and not really learner friendly.

So as daylight savings are only 17 days away, that puts the next TRTNR date at 30th September.

Who's keen and where are we going?

Every Thursday night during daylight savings.

Meet at Duckpond in Avalon ~6.00pm for a 6.30pm departure.

This is for more experienced riders and as such there is generally no TEC.

We agree on a destination, (sometimes we don't agree and split the group up) do a quick head count for checking at the destination and that is about as organised as it gets.

Meet back at The Station Sports Cafe and Bar for some food and drink, a game of pool, talk some shit and admire the view....LOL

Tried to do a "quick" bottom end swap on the GSX lats night because the bore on #4 has a groove a Honda rider could hide his willy in and that wouldn't have been conducive to Repsol smashing performance but the cam saddle bolts were so weak half of them snapped. Maybe going again tonight, maybe not. Maybe you homos are safe for another week......

Went over the takas late sunday afternoon and to Tuis for coffee. Dry but windy in the rapa, but the hill was one of the worst I have known, and not too many bikes out, only saw about 1 other. Very gusty and wet. One time a large sheet of black plastic from the road works lifted up in the wind , seemed to hover in front of me, then landed completely on top of me! Could only see a little of the road beside my left footpeg. Thrashed with one arm to throw it off and keep control of the bike with the other. But surreal and seemed like a bad omen.

Anyway, got home ok.

Thanks for the nudge. Thing for me is that I already do about 400kays every week on my bike so if the conditions are less than ideal I simply can't be fucked. That and the destination seems to be fairly consistant week to week, I'm more of a Blue Mountains/Moonshine Hill/Paekakariki/Akatarawa Hill type rider and I think a few of these rookies would blouse out if they saw that route :D

Nope. Forgot to throw Deanos CBR in there too. No it was a good crowd last night (as it always is), probably 20 odd bikes I suppose? The great thing about these rides is no one ever seems to over stretch themselves and knows exactly where they want to be in the group. No heros or bullshit.

Well, an R1 gave some rookie a lesson in why 150+ HP mtorcycles should be treated with respect. The rookie is in a far worse state than the bike which laughed it off, no broken levers, indicators, nothing.

A rider also gave his bike a lesson in why it's really in its best interests to turn when he expects it to, rather than go straight ahead.

End of the day, no major injuries, both bikes ridden home. Mint ride.
