Steering making awful clicking noise

Guessing this means the bearings are shot or something. Thoughts? It looks like there's liquid stuff of some description dripping out of there too, but maybe that's just fuel coming through the breather thingy when I fall over.

Steering head bearings = rooted.
Oily stuff = from breather hose.

Is the liquid stuff brownish in colour? If so it's probably rust mixed with the remains of the head bearing grease and whatever you clean the bike with. (Do you use a waterblaster?)

Krads right,my steering was clicking and notchy,replaced top and bottom bearings,(packed with grease) and now she's beauuuutiful.

What cleaner have you been useing?

Been using liquid dynamo.
I've never had an issue with this before on other bikes but I wonder if the YZ125's steering head bearings are somehow more susceptible.

Its also possible that the previous owner munted it somehow and its only showing up now. :)

Happend on my YZ450F after about a year from brand new. (Broke my leg so had plenty time to fix it lol) Its especially common if you use a waterblaster, the water gets into your bearings and only a mater of time they start to rust and stick. New bearings and all fixed. Thats most likely what the fluid is too, water, grease and if its brown there's a tad bit of rust coming through.

Bingo! The stuff is browny. I was stumped as to what it could be. We don't waterblast the bikes unless they've bought home half of harrisville with them, and it's not tasted clay yet since I've had it. Previous owner might have tho. Good to know what it is!

When you put the new bearings in, use marine grade wheel bearing grease if you can get some. (used for boat trailers that get backed into the sea to launch the boat)
and keep the blaster away from the head bearings (and the rear suspension bearings, and the wheel bearings...)

We have a big tub of the stuff and use it for all greasey jobs, greased my linkage bearings with it not long ago :) Will def be packing it on!
