Can remember 10 year ago or so before trade me,the trade and exchange had a couple of plates for sale GMSUX and MOTSUX.

I wanted SSH8R and was ok,went to local Mustang guy and offered it to him,but he liked his plate lol.Might see if available still.

Rented one of those in Brisbane last year and it really was truly gutless. If it's supposed to be an economy version, then it's overdone

And your point is? It was designed in Australia by Holden and in the next year it will be made at Point Elizabeth.

I also suspect that the reason some people like Ford is because it's easier to spell than HoldEn.

Not driven one, but the Cruze looks good on paper. 104Kw from an 1800 motor is pretty good.

If you expect it to perform like an SS Commodore because it's got a Holden badge, then you're bound to be disappointed - as well as stupid.

104 KW should be a minimum. We have an 1800cc Corolla with 140kw. Is impressive for 1800 but it can be done easily.

We're talking basic 1800cc compact saloons here, straight off the showroom floor.

The Cruze power output pisses all over its current mainstream 1800cc competitors - including the new Corolla.

Used to have a 1600 with 100 BHP (74.5kw) if I lied! That used to be plenty........
Oh well....

your getting confused with holden and general motors the holden brand doesnt exist outside aus and nz, the cruze (formally the daewoo lacetti) is a south korean market car rebadged as a cruze for australasia and as for the ford / holden thing i dont have any prejudices having owned lots of both brands, have had a xw falcon for 20 odd years and am considering a new v8 holden ute for work

No I'm not. GM is an international conglomerate that has a marketing strategy of using different marques in different markets. "Holdens" are sold outside Australia and New Zealand, predominantly as Chevrolets and Vauxhalls, but also as Buicks and Opels. Similarly "Opels" and "Daewoos" are sold as "Holdens" in Australia.

This demonstrates how GM's intellectual property, manufacturing and distribution is global. They are able to pick the most advantageous locations to design and manufacture vehicles. The Australian designed Cruze is made in Korea. It is sold in the USA as a Chevrolet. It has a German designed engine.

GM is a house of brands, compared with Ford which is a branded house. It's interesting to note that Australian Ford models like the Falcon aren't sold outside of Australia, New Zealand or outlying islands of either, particularly when compared with some Commodore models that are built in RH and LH drive configurations, badge engineered and then sold globally.

The Chevrolet Cruze is a General Motors (GM) automobile produced since 2001, spanning two generations and two unrelated vehicles. The first generation, a subcompact crossover SUV, was manufactured by Suzuki in Japan under joint venture with GM.
For the second generation 2008 onwards model, the "Cruze" moniker has been applied to a globally-developed compact sedan, designed, manufactured and retailed entirely within GM. Compared to the original, the second series is related only in name, and does not serve as its successor. Instead, the new car replaces two unrelated cars—the Chevrolet Cobalt and Daewoo Lacetti. Badged as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere, the South Korean-market Cruze entered production in 2008, partially replacing the Daewoo Lacetti sold since 2002. This previous Lacetti was sold internationally as either a Buick, Chevrolet, Daewoo, Holden or Suzuki, but for the Cruze, GM has retained the "Chevrolet Cruze" name for most markets. Besides the South Korean Daewoo branding, Australasian-specification cars are badged Holden Cruze, with Holden set to commence local production from 2011. The North American Chevrolet Cobalt will also be phased out in 2010, replaced by the Chevrolet Cruze. Production of the Cobalt's twin, the Pontiac G5 will also cease, coinciding with the Pontiac brand's discontinuation

Is this correct?

No not true at all.Falcon will continue as will the Commodore as there to far into the next model to call it quits, after that however who knows eh.New motor going into the Falcon sounds a goody as well.

'sall good - it is in Jokes & Humour - although you wouldn't think so...

My comment was aimed at those who agreed that it's gutless, which made me wonder what they actually expected from a budget 1800cc saloon.

Bwahahahaha...! I'll drive either, but recently settled for a base model BF XT.

The rumours of the eventual dropping of the Falcon have been circulating for years. Ford tried to tempt the Aussies with the Taurus, which was rejected quite soundly. But as Hitcher has pointed out, Ford's localised marketing strategy can't compete with the GM global approach. While there's been a few improvements in the power train of the Falcon, there's been only cosmetic body changes across the last three models (BA, BF, FG), fueling speculation that they're delaying the inevitable. Shame, but...

2014/15 there will be some changes for sure.Theres talk of Ford continuing the rear wheel drive thing using a common platform for both the Falcon and Mustang which doesnt sound silly considering the Falcons getting the Mustang motor.
