Spoken like a typical racist white motherfucker. I think he's a racist honkey pakeha gypo :innocent:
It's funny, if you are white, or look white and say something impartial of the darker complexed peoples it's perceived as racist and a big song and dance is made. But if its the other way around.......... nothing ever comes of it.
How is we have people like Hone Harawira in politics when he spouts much much worse, but plays the Maori card and gets away with it.
This country has clear double standards, what really is freedom of speech? people should be able to say what they want.
I don't care what race or religion people are, and I can laugh at my own mixed pot make up. People just simply need to stop throwing stones and get over it. Like it or not, humans are not full bred races anyway, they all came from a pair at some point.

Implying that the GG isn't a real New Zealander is impartial? Making infantile scatological jokes about the name of a Minister of a foreign government is impartial?
Golly - I must get out more....

What makes you think he got away with it? He was certainly in trouble with his own party. Furthermore many people reacted with disgust which reflected badly on the Maori Party which needs all the political goodwill it can get. Finally, Hone Harawira alienated people and lost what little credibility he had among the wider public.
He won't care, and neither will Paul Henry or Michael Laws (whom I note has now apologised despite saying he wouldn't).

I don't think he ever said the GG was not a real New Zealander. What he said was, he doesn't look like one.
Thats interesting, because I think we all have a view of what someone might look like. There will be people who do not fit my view, but actually, I thinks its formed from factual experience.
I think the world is like that, and if you had given people in other countries the chance to pick which country our GG was the head of, I bet NZ would not have been the first choice. Or even the 10th.
So anyone who says that Paul Henry was being offensive by pointing out that the GG looked Asian, is wrong. This IMHO is the majority of the criticism levelled at him.
They are however right, if they condemn him for suggesting that the next GG would be better qualified by not looking asian.
I see it the same as the comments about Ms Dikshit. It is, absolutely a terrible name, to be forever ranked with Ce'unt, Grubb, Longbottom, Gay and various other names, for which meaning has morphed.
Here again PH generally did something that actually , my old school teacher Mr Longbottom will remember 3000 students doing - making fun of the name in an infantile manner.
Later comments he made about Dikshit being Indian leave me lost - I cant see any relevance.
I cant see the racial insult. If the GG looks asian, how is that a racial slur ? As he does, and thats a fact not abuse or insult. Indeed our forum has a thread devoted to asians and its very popular.
Same as "Dikshit is obviously Indian"
How is that any more of an insult or racial slur than saying Harawera is obviously Maori, Reid is obviously Scottish and Fritz is obviously German. As even if not correct, being of any particular race is not an insult, unless you have made it so.

Knee jerk censorship IMO. Sure he swings between being the nemesis of the arrogant powers that be and a giggling school boy with his foot firmly in his mouth but without him, or people like him, you end up with a bunch of heavily censored, bland, yes men presenters that are scared of their own shadow that never challenge anyone about anything.
Take a gander at British TV if you get the chance, apart from a few irreverent comedians late at night, it's tantamount to state controlled TV, if you dare even think controversial thoughts you get the boot, a bunch of arse licking sycophants, Is that really what we want in NZ.
Anyway, details are shaky but Did Hone not recently exclaim that he would not permit his offspring to bring Whiteys home, Did not the PM state reluctance to sit down and feed with a certain Maori tribe for fear of being eaten. I don't recall either of them being suspended or forced to (resign). If we are going to get all PC and anal then surely we should punish everyone equally for having opinions at odds with the self appointed, moralistic, arrogant, censorship elite.

What Paul Henry suggested was that our GG did not "look like a New Zealander ..."
Well, what does a NZer look like ? Do you have to Look Māori or Look Pākehā to be counted as "A New Zealander" ? Henry was working of an assumption that, at its core, is racist and offensive ... There4 have been other threads here that discuss the inclusive nature of New ZEaland society and culture - Henry is just perpetrating a perception that "a New Zealander is white (.. oh .. and we'd better count Māori in there as well ..) Why do people feel the need to get so upset over anything to do with race based comments?

I did say details were shaky because I honestly don't pay that much attention to reports of people saying stuff they maybe wish they hadn't for fear of an almighty backlash Like Henry has got, whether said in jest or ignorance I guess we all wish some things we said could be removed from record. However in an attempt to put the record straight, Hone said......
The NZ Herald asked Maori Party MP Mr Harawira how he would feel if one of his kids came home with a Pakeha partner. His response went "I wouldn't feel comfortable. Like all Pakehas would be happy with their daughters coming home with a Maori boy? And the answer is they wouldn't".
I don't recall Hone resigning , furthermore, I don't recall Mr Key resigning for insinuating a certain Iwi might have cannibalistic tendencies, I fully accept that it was said in jest, an ill thought out attempt at humour and that is precisely what I am defending here. If we say nothing for fear of upsetting some people, then we say precisely that 'nothing'.
Sometimes people ,or Henrys, go too far and it is quite right that they should be made to justify/explain their opinion/slur/joke, if it has genuinely upset someone.I am merely stating here that we should be careful what we wish for because censorship and the PC brigade would have us all believe ,via the media ,that the world is full of fluffy bunnies and every one is happy as piggys in poo and whilst real crime, murder rape robbery and real racism continues to escalate unabated on our streets, we get outraged because someone in the public eye thought that the name dikshit is a funny name or that someone holding office in NZ doesn't actually look very new Zealanderish.
All three of the above have been recorded as saying something controversial but not one of them has even come close to me baying for their blood, perspective is the name of the game here , I'm more concerned with paying the mortgage than listening to people bicker over a bit of something and nothing.
I don't look like a New Zealander. I'm sure my name means something funny somewhere in the world, I have a moustache and I'm brown skinned in the summer and white as snow in the winter. Whilst I take the point that some people can be mortally offended by a few ill chosen words from just about anybody, I am not one of them and I think we are getting way too precious about what is quite often a case of mouth in gear before brain. Nuff said, I shall not be back to discuss further it ain't worth the typing time, Cheers.

Calling someone a cunt for what they said does not interfere with their freedom of speech. It is, in fact, the opposite. It is active participation in the marketplace of ideas. Granted, neither what Paul Henry said nor "Paul Henry is a cunt" are particularly good or useful ideas. But hey, even the marketplace of ideas has a $2 Shop.
Nonetheless, this is precisely why democracies have freedom of speech - so that people can say whatever they want, and other people can say "No, you're a dick. Fuck off." This is the free and frank competition of ideas, regardless of how crap those ideas are.
Let's consider what freedom of speech is not........

So have you ?
I love how the Internet is so anonymous.......
Sure, I read several books a year, in either English or German....... 1984 is one of my favorites.
The only parallel I can draw between this situation and the book is the concept of "Double truth" (Where by a group (or just an individual) is told something ( that most likely is true), then, in the next few moments told the complete opposite ( again in, something that is most likely true ), in so doing that the subject(s) are subconsciously confused, and there by, will continue to believe either of these "truths" as fact, depending on the situation, as required.
It is actually one of the most important steps in manipulating, and controlling either a group,By an individual or, an individual, by a group, and indeed very successful.
I think that is what Hans is referring to, and suggests that Paul Henry is indeed a racsist of the tallest order, as he, on one hand, makes many race based comments, then, shortly afterward makes impassioned pleas as to how he himself is a "Gypsy" (Roma), and the mere fact that he has this lineage would immediately discount him as Racist.......
Here by, completing the " double truth"....., because, a Gypsy ( a persecuted race) could never be racist...... Could they?
that's the only parallel in can draw... Hans? Am I right?

I disagree, because that's exactly what happens. Someone says something stupid/idiotic/crass etc... they may get labelled a cock/idiot/blah by the "majority", others may  at the sheer stupidity, or the humour of it... But it's the person reading/seeing/hearing it, that gets to decide the context of the comments and that is measured by their individual morals, individual principles, individual values, each of which can be offended... It's the individual interpretation that does the damage, not the words... but that's my take :)

But it's the person reading/seeing/hearing it, that gets to decide the context of the comments and that is measured by their individual morals, individual principles, individual values, each of which can be offended... It's the individual interpretation that does the damage, not the words... but that's my take :)

Really?? Tell that to the Maori shearers we had. Good enough blokes (if they turned up) but you wouldn't have them in the house. Feed them in the shed. And the Catholics - living in fear of their priests, more children than they could feed, worshipping Mary - stay away from them......
Or so I believed as a child in the 1960s. The result being Maori were not to be trusted or employed. Catholics could not be friends and should be avoided in business.
Make no mistake, words cause deep and significant harm. Never underestimate the power of language.

Fuck me, an entertainer mocks someones name because to us and him it sounds funny, and a bunch of humourless twats moan about it because they think it is racist. Did he mock Indians or dark skinned people? No he made fun of how a name sounds. Thats it,nothing more, just an entertainer doing his job.
I wonder what they think of the 12th man where he commentates the cricket match between India and Oz and calls the Indians names like peanutbutterjars and Omnibus. IIRC, or where the Kiwi league team in introduced and pokes fun at the Polynesian names. Just entertainment. Nothing more nothing less.
Ssome of these people that moan about things on the tele really need to ask themselves if what they are hearing is ACTUALLY offending them or just meets some sort of criteria of offensive behaviour for fuckwits like them.

What have we come to?
A TV presenter asks if someone with a name that sounds foreign is actually a NZ'er, asks if he was born here? asks if he should be a Governor General for us and suddenly he's gone?
Pricks! useless, gutless wonders, whats wrong with us?
We;ve become a nation of hand wringing whimps!
if Mr Anand can't take a Joke perhaps he should NOT be our current GG.
As for TV NZ, they've obviously lost the plot too, replace Paul Hnery? with what?
Paul Holmes, na sorry he's had his day and would never consider putting another foot wrong after quite rightly calling Coffee Anan a"bloody cheeky darky" for telling us here in NZ how to behave after his own country's atrocities.
Tell it like it is, is what Paul Henry and the Breakfast team has been all about, I'm bloody sad and angry that my daily intro to NZ's boring old news and current affairs has been yet again DUMBED DOWN by the powers that be.

(sigh....) Paul Henry resigned because he misjudged light humour, instead he was offensive. Paul Henry is not an entertainer or a comedian. If he was he'd be on in the evening and we'd all have a good laugh. Instead he is a program presenter covering light topics in the morning when families - including children - are watching.
Paul Henry has talent and can be funny: no argument. Unhappily he makes fun of others who are not on the spot to defend themselves. Such as the lady with the moustache. Small stuff on its own but Paul kept trying to be clever.
TVNZ faced the loss of advertisers after the latest gaffe regarding the Indian Minister's name. Clearly many other people didn't think PH was especially clever or funny.

All decent New Zealanders are celebrating over the news of Paul Henry’s resignation. Henry resigned in the face of growing outrage over his racist comments. TV bosses and the PM originally stood by Henry. This shows their unwillingness to stand up to bigotry.
Socialist Aotearoa was right to lead a protest of anti-racist activists outside the TVNZ studios last week following the racist remarks made by Paul Henry in his interview with Prime Minister John Key on Monday 4 October, and to call for him to be sacked.
Henry asked Key if Sir Anand was "even a New Zealander".
Henry then went on to ask Key about his next choice of Governor General: "Are you going to choose a New Zealander who looks and sounds like a New Zealander this time? Are we going to go for someone who is more like a New Zealander this time?"
This response by TVNZ was wholly inadequate. People have a right to their own opinions, but Henry is a paid employee of a state subsidised TV company. Our taxes should not be used so that this right-wing bigot can pedal his racist filth on national TV.
This is not the first time Henry has used his TV show to abuse other people. Henry gave a half-hearted apology earlier this year for disablist remarks he made about singer Susan Boyle and the Indian Government have lodged a formal complaint about racist remarks he made to an official of that Government. Each time he uses his position of power to make racist, sexist or disablist comments, he helps to legitimise every playground and workplace bully.
The bosses want to set New Zealanders against each other by creating a false distinction between “real” and “other” New Zealanders. TVNZ CEO Rick Ellis originally said that Henry speaks for most New Zealanders. This is not the case. In schools and workplaces up and down the country, people of different backgrounds and ethnicities, men and women, straight and gay, disabled and non-disabled people work side by side. By contrast, Henry represented the racist bullying bosses who seek to divide, and the misguided twats who jeer along with him.

“It is a case of ‘three strikes and you’re out’” says GPJA spokesperson John Minto. Paul Henry is a serial offender. He has abused women, people of colour, gay people, people with disabilities and all migrant Kiwis who don’t look like him. This is not a case of a broadcaster exercising free speech. This is a broadcaster legitimizing bigotry and hatred in the community.”

Oh, they definitely protest against China. Remember the whole kerfuffle when the Chinese premier visited recently?
As long as they don't protest against something REALLY important, like a few extra dollars on the registration costs of motorcycles. 'cos, those are the real worthy causes - the individualist ones. [sarcasm smiley]

I was past of the 1981 protest, but was later disappointed and outraged with the double standard shown from Minto & Co about Zimbabwe.
In respect of protesting at the tennis, it's just wrong.
Rugby was the white game in SA, and having a go at that could (and did) get the attention of the Apartheid supporters. That tennis player is one individual trying to ply her trade, she's not world ranked, and unlikely to be a household name in Israel - protesting about her involvement will do nothing.

That argument would be vaguely plausible if it were a national team, but it wasn't. It was typical left wing anti-Jew bigotry.

As an Asian immigrant who first arrived to these shores 36 years ago, I am grateful for what New Zealand has given me and my family. I also like to believe that I have contributed something back to this country. My family certainly has.
But in the ensuing debate following Paul Henry's remarks, I have seriously questioned the premise of whether I should continue to describe myself as a New Zealander. Beneath the facade of our supposedly tolerant, modern and multicultural society, lies a seething undercurrent of bigotry, racism and ignorance.....

The statement is clearly inaccurate.
As it turns out all the retards not smiling and happy (as the Ferrari 430 comment eluded to), they are in fact ugly and unhappy.
Clarkson should have got the sack for that. As retards should be compared to land rovers, not Ferrari's (which do look rather happy). Such a misscalculation will only get the retards more angry. Making them look more like the Fiat Multipla

Possibly.
But when my mate Tim used to tell all the adults to "Fuck off" at school I thought he was the coolest. But my mummy said that just because someone does something - does not mean the world should copy them.
So I tried it, and got detention for a week.
Last I hear my old mate Tim has no job and a drinking problem. Poor bugger still curses like the world owes him a dime or 2.
So maybe importing EVERYTHING from the UK could be a bad thing? I mean I imagine 100 or so years ago, some fella said "Relax man, its just a rabbit.....how the hell is a couple of rabbits gonna cause any problem in New Zealand?"
