Clarence Reserve open weekends 2010-2011

Doc now have there open weekends for access to the clarence reserve up on their web site

In 2010/2011 Ka Whata Tu o Rakihouia Clarence will tentatively be open for 4WD on:

•30 October - 1 November 2010 (Marlborough Anniversary weekend)
•26 November - 28 November 2010.
•7 January - 9 January 2011.
•28 January to 30 January 2011.
•25 February to 27 February 2011.
To check if the road is open on these dates, contact South Marlborough Area Office.

Gate open times
Friday: 12.00 pm to 5.00 pm (except Marlborough Anniversary weekend)

Saturday and Sunday: 8.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Monday 1 November holiday: 8.00 am to 5.00 pm (Marlborough Anniversary weekend).

Well thats what I did last year anyway as a north islander, I inclued the rainbow, lake sumner and the molesworth in a 4 day weekend. it is a good option.

This is more what I was thinking of doing this year taking the tent with me and staying overnight at one of the camping areas in the clarence reserve, I'm hoping to get a few more from the north island interested in doing a long weekend trip down that way as there is plenty to explore.
Staying overnight in the reserve would give plenty of time to relax and explore the area at a more relaxed pace.

Tenting / cabining (is that a word?) sounds good to me will keep an eye on the thread - my old's live in Kaikoura but would love to explore North and South once you are in - so ride in, do the north back to the middle, camp, do the south and then come out - no pressure - time to relax and enjoy the place - next question who is going to take the 4 wheel drive in with a few cold ones in a chilly bin?

22nd - 23rd January - so you North Island Wallies could come down do the DB1k, bit of quiet touring round central otago and then do the Clarence on the way home - sound's like a perfect 10 - 12 day break in the mainland to me! :woohoo:

Well thats all luck of the draw with NZ weather, I notice they don't have any open days in March or April this year.

I am keen, the problem is if it rains they close the reserve.

if the weather is fine the reserve will be open and we will have a lot of fun.

Hmm wish I had mine last Feb it was rather warm in the reserve, the day we went in.

I am thinking about heading down for one of the Jan dates as it is the best timing for me.

Joe there are plenty of alternatives down towards Christchurch, with lake sumner, a few other smaller back roads, lees valley or even a tour of the back roads on the Peninsular.
