Selling mine too, venture/tourer, not quite off road but someone else may as well enjoy it as having it hang about in my garage!
Are you suggesting there is a glut of bikes for sale just now then!
Is that as a result of the ACC or what? :wait:
Oh well, someone might get themselves a cheap bike then! It's an ill wind!
Bring money, pay and ride away! :ride:

Wait till winter if you want to see slow sales. Bike sales should be good at this time of year.

How do you think I feel?
I've currently got a 250 cc learner bike, and have five months to go before I get my full license.
OK, I got it for a good price, but what will I be able to sell it for once I've got my full license but the learner category has gone up to 650 cc.

I just sold my other 1000cc roadbike on trademe in less than a week.
There's people out there with money, my advice to you would be actually clean it and take more photo's. (I know it's a "dirtbike" but most people want to take a clean one home!)

There has been a glut of bikes available for sale for nearly 2 years. It seems the advent of trade-me has brought on (amongst other effects) a generation of casual (almost reckless) consumers. It's ultimate result is to drive the price of second hand goods down when times are tough.
Critical mass seems to have been reached. It might suck a bit but it is a self-perpetuating thing.

It seems to be very hard to sell bikes right now. My bike is the only GS500E on Trademe, but I've had zero interest in the three weeks that it has been on there. Maybe I should put it in a shed somewhere in the hope that the price goes up when it becomes learner legal in 2012!

Buyers market for sureYou'd be one of the few that realise this. I tried to buy a bike to replace mine and everyone wanted moonbeams for theirs, so I just said 'Fuck it'. Most of the ones I wanted to buy on TM never sold. TradeMe has turned sellers into dreamers.

As someone who's in the market for their first 'real' bike I've got an opinion too. I know that pricing has been discussed on KB quite a bit, but still.
It seems that the second hand market for bikes is a lot like the housing market in NZ; Everyone's keen to perpetuate high prices to ensure a good resale for their bike when they sell it, not because it's inherently valuable. It's artificial inflation.
You can get a 2nd hand 2007 'cheapo' like a hornet, Suzuki SV*, GSR etc for around $7-9000, 40-50% devaluation after 3 years, similar to the car market. But for the same price, you can get a 10+ year old faired sports bike, wha? Now I'm sure these bikes work and ride well but they're old !!
It makes buying a new bike look very attractive instead of buying 2nd hand. If I had the money (and guts) I'd buy something new because at "market" rates I'd probably lose the same in depreciation but I'd get to ride a new bike.

Bikes are no different than any other commodity, they are worth exactly what someone is prepared to pay for them and not a cent more.
