Carbon Fibre, Stainless Steel or Titanium..... is there a difference for a can? Is there a difference to sound, performance etc..? There is definitely a huge price difference between the Stainless Steel and the other two.

Opinions?

No, weight is the diff

Carbon is light & sound deep from been thin walled Fibre but they fall apart after a short time , The other 2 will last longer as from what they are made of . Depends on brands some will have better sound than others . Power wise you'll have to get some Dyno figures to see what makes the best over all right though out the rev range

nothing much wrong with carbon, my current exhuast and previous are carbon and i have had over 20000km of no dramas with them. but i must admit i have been told not to put carbon cans on a big twins, they have a tendancy to fall apart.

so the major difference between them is weight? I am assuming the Titanium would be the lightest? Anybody have any thoughts on Titanium or Stainless Steel?

I think I'm going to custom build some cans for le Voxan so that puts titanium out of the running. Bugger http://www.voxanclubdefrance.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/new_color_.gif

Avoid carbon cans if you have any panniers within close proximity of the can, so I'm told. I've a matey that fitted a couple of carbon pipes under his panniers, replacing the stock ones, they melted the bottom of both his panniers while he was out on a ride.

Opinions? They all look nice but the condition of the carbon fibre one will deteriorate the quickest over time. Titanium is the lightest & generally the most expensive - best choice for racing!

I went stainless Scorpion on my CBR6 last year, mainly because of availability in NZ at the time, and they polish up nicely!

If I had the dollars & was prepared to wait 12+ weeks I'd go Yoshimura RS-3 Stainless...the whole exhaust system btw, not just the cannister.

That would be because the black surface radiates heat more efficiently than the silvery metal alternatives

Still waiting for my carbon can to blow up, disintegrate, whatever. 2-1 big twin set up too. I must be nuts. Oh crap, it was manufactured in ‘01 too. I must be sitting on a time bomb.

Take that ‘what I’ve heard’ and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. :oi-grr:

I am looking at Yoshimura RS-5 in Titanium OR Akrapovic. Slip on though. Getting them from the US is cheaper than NZ. I want something loud!!!!!!!

That RS-3 does look nice.

I don't think I will go for a carbon fibre, seeing they don't last that long. The funny thing is, on some of the US websites, the Titanium is CHEAPER than the Carbon Fibre.

Thank alot for the replies.!

People are saying good things about JCMotors as far as buying out of the US,
they are on Ebay if you do a search..they used to add a fairly high handling fee for International but that may have changed or still ends up at great buying even if added (fwiw)
>
As far as Akropovic..i know someone who was running a full Ti system on an R1 (10.1ET@234kph on NOS)...... The Arko's low down power loss verses a stock EXUP header and homemade Can/Muffler gave almost identical times around 10.4/5's the Akro was all upper mid to topend.

I ended up buying it from JC motors!! co-incidence! The handling + shipping was $89.00 USD! I thought that was pretty steep. But they were the few that would ship internationally with little hassle. I ended up getting the RS5. Cheaper than the Akrapovic.

The carbon was more $$$$$$.... I was told the stainless / titanium would last longer. I thought the Titanium would have been the most expensive, but it wasn't. The Carbon Fibre was.

You have to show me the Two Brothers you ordered once you get it... how much did you get it for?? I reckon you would have got it cheaper as it wasn't an underseat can.

I am sure that new bike of yours is just as impressive. You will have to show it to me this week, once you pick it up.!! :D
