Parts for 1982 Yamaha XJ750

I have (and in the process of rebuilding) a 1982 yamaha XJ750, I need a full gasket set and piston rings and was wondering if anyone other than TP Chch would be able to provide these items??

I got the piston kit and gaskets for my XL from budget motorcycles, aftermarket rather than oem parts, seem to be working ok so far. The rings for my scooter came from cliff bonds, I think they do gasket sets as well.

The other yamaha dealer is bob mcleary out at rangiora, but I'm guessing they'll probably be the same as TP.

I've already tried Budget, they didn't have them which is a bugger, still I have a friend in the UK who might do e a big favour....:shutup:

Before you go ahead with it, why do you think it needs rebuilding?
does it go?
have you done a compression test?

If you do strip the top end you would need to measure piston to bore clearance before you buy the rings, if there is to much you would need pistons as well

While the head is off pay some attention to the valves as well

Ebay is your friend when building old bikes, as these were sold in the USA there should be plenty of bits for them, also Chacal on XJbikes is a good source

They are the other side of Fitzgerald ave from TP and about 1/2 way to Durham st heading towards the centre of town, I've used them for a few things and they were very helpful

Cheers for the advice guys! The bike was burning oil and also had a few oil leaks. The piston chambers have just been honed, the place that done said it looked in reasonable nick for it's age!

I'm going to get the valves done and I still have a few other things to check, but getting there slowly but surely.

Theres a bloke on here who is about as much of an XJ nut as I am. From memory he had a complete barrel/piston ring set ready to go into the old seca 750.
I missed where the oil leaks were etc but I would have been looking closer at the condition of the valves and the faces as Kickaha advised. Often theres more compression lost there than in the bores.
