I drive a truck sometimes. Today my boss came to me and asked if I could remember what I was doing on may 19. It turns out that someone has lodged a complaint with the police that a pedestrian was hit by a truck at our local Shell station, and the driver failed to stop.
I checked my log, and sure enough I was driving that truck at that time. The only thing is, I didn't hit any bloody pedestrian! I mean, you'd remember a thing like that.
Aaaaaanyway, now I gotta wait till monday to go see the local constabulary, to deny that I hit any pedestrian, and have you ever tried to prove that you DIDN'T do something??????????????
This is stress that I really don't need......

Did you stop at the Shell Station for any reason ?
Worse case scenario you may be able to use the servo's video as evidence, if it isn't erased already.
Good luck - maybe take a witness to the Police station too, just in case....

Could you have nudged someone as you left without noticing ?
(You think the pedestrian would have seen you though.)
Perhaps it's an American tourist who thinks they could sue for millions.

Tough break, that would stress me out too. I doubt that you would have and not noticed. Somone would have shouted for you to stop. Maybe you slightly nudged someone, and they got all shitty about it and made a big deal?
Best of luck.

Dont worry too much about it for know (Easier said than done I know) It is possible that you hit someone without knowing but as long as you stick with your story then you should be fine accidents happen. Good luck anyway

Hey, I suppose it's possible , but I didn't see anyone anywhere near the truck....I've been involved in two similar instances in my life where a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and the driver was totally oblivious to it until days later when he was informed. It happens and it's accidental!
All that said, I still hope it wasn't you Aitch. Hope it gets sorted out quickly for ya. :niceone:

Don't even think that way in the interview. You are a responsibile driver and aware of your suroundings. My advice is to seek legal advice prior to the interview. From your point of view it's possible that the pedestrian walked into the truck as against you hiting him/her with the truck. That puts the blame on them. You need to find out the point of contact.

I know how you feel. Went in to the police station 'to eliminate my self from their enquires' over that woman who was killed on New years day a few years back in the Rakia Gorge. Was in the area salmon fishing at the time. Bloody unpleasent feeling being a murder suspect even for a short time. Just one of lifes experiances that we could all do without.

You can't stop for an 'accident' if you don't even know there was one in the first place. I would imagine the onus of proof is on the witness/police to prove that you knew that an 'accident' that you were involved in, had taken place, or else how could you have stopped for it? Admit nothing, if there is nothing to admit.

Yea dude if ya diddn't do it ya diddn't do it -plain and simple.
if the tail end of the truck swiped em surely its because they walked into it not visa versa.
To cap that off I'd suggest that if the pedestrian was really hurt then you'da heard a long time before now,

19th May the alledged accident happened...
Your Boss spoke to you on 10th June...
So how come the police, took so long to contact your boss re this alledged accident ? And at what point did the alledged victim go to report this alledged accident?
When someone is alledgelly hit by a vehicle, the police are onto it straight away.
Unless, there is video footage, still at the gas station and the police have witnesses to prove it was your truck. Then say nothing.
Make sure you have your log book fully up todate and everything in it absolutely correct. As they may check the log book out too.
Also have your license on you as well.
All the best.
The size of your truck, you may have nudged someone walking back to their vehicle.... but at the same time why didn't they open up their eyes and check to make sure that no vehicle was moving etc.. Most people would yell out if that happened...
(Sorry my spelling ain't that good today)

They rang 111, the taxi got sent to the wrong address... now that they laid a complaint to the police minister something might get done about it...
Bad luck mate, my mates sister just had a run in with a cyclist while turning up into their street... Got insane sunstrike and didnt see the guy until his face was pressed up against the windscreen...
As said, hopefully nothing comes of it and u just get a smack on the hand and sent to your room

Aitch, I can't believe that it is on the site, my ex neighbour was hit by a truck at the Shell Station in Takanini, (not saying this is you).Of course now that I see this post I think surely not on the KB this vary incident, she reported it to the police that day, she had the bruises to prove that something hit her, if this was you then I know from driving trucks and limited visibility sometimes you would not of known, she is a pretty good person and could not see her making this up as her husband was there and saw it as well. I think the dates actually stack up to when you said.
If this is you I know its probably not want you wanted to hear but just had to let you know.

"COVER YOUR ARSE"
Like earlier threads say, take someone with you, preferably someone intelligent cause they will stick it to you if they want to and if you get emotional you cannot help yourself.
Did you read the latest Kiwi Rider where the editor got dobbed in by another driver and they can choose to prosocute him if they want to. Like said earlier. You are Guilty until you prove you are innocent (usaually at some cost to the defendent)
Be careful

Finally got a response from the cops. They have viewed the video of the incident, and there is no conclusive evidence that I hit the lady. So I was advised to review my driving practice when driving in and out of petrol stations.
End of story.
So, now i can relax and forget about the whole thing.

Trucks have good visability but your often distracted when checking your mirrors for traffic on your right hand side as you prepare to get back onto the road, putting your log book away, giving stick to someone going past on the radio, eating your pie, getting a handjob from a hitchhiker, yawning, pikcing your nose, changing charlie pride tapes over, adjusting the aircon, puting the receipt and shell card away etc
I know if I hit a woman a glancing hit in the trucks I used to drive I wouldnt know it unless I saw it, and i know that no drivers can keep full, undivided concentration on all fields of view 100% of the time. Its just not possible.
I hope your okay and that she isnt to badly hurt.
