I have a late 80s GPZ250 (87 ish I think) that is having some issues.

Symptom:

The bike lacks power, and even at idle with the throttle open it takes ~2 seconds to get to 8000 RPM (roughly halfway on the gauge) and won't go any higher.

Repairs:

I have taken the carbs out and cleaned them, as well as all the fuel hoses to/from the carbs.

I removed the tank, drained it, cleaned it and then refilled it.

I checked/cleaned the spark plugs.

None of the above has changed anything, though I wasn't surprised cos nothing was looking at all dirty.

Does anyone have any suggestions/thoughts?

Would just pulling it out and running straight air through work as a quick diagnostic? I can't see any reason why not but i'm sure folks here know more than I.

I know on my bike the fuel tap has a filter on it which can get clogged up, dunno if the same is true for yours?

See attachment.
