Moring all,
Just got my WOF Checked which it failed, cause i need to check my front wheel bearing and front forks need oil etc etc so that's easy
but i know this is not a biggie to fix... i just wanted to Rant about it When was it a Requirement to have a Number plate light?? i just noticed on my WOF it said Number Plate light not fitted and failed it ..........
i told him. i had my bike for 3 yrs and they didn't worry about that..... so he just quoted its just who you get..... i think i got a bad apple...... he failed my front tyre due to a small thumbnail wear on the side of the tyre apart was that.. the tyre still looks brand new and still good to go for at least 3 months!!!! - i was so fuked off when he told me, ..
i guess at less i have more than 28 days to get it fit due to Xmas =) =) but WTF tho this guy was a dick!

Think you will find that it has been a requirement for a number plate light for many years. In fact, so many that i can't remember a time when it wasn't.

Yeah number plate light has always been a requirement,as it makes your plate more visible.

Although I don't remember it, I believe that requirement came into force in 1951.

Wheel bearing...fail.
Forks LEAKING oil...fail. No oil is not necessarily a fail, but it should be.
No number plate light...fail.
Tyre. Would have to see it, but 'looks brand new, good for at least 3 months' ??? WTF?

No they don't. Wait, I see what you did there.
It's just a pain these WOF testers like to be annoying. Why can't they get a job where they contribute to safety?
(btw, the local testing station round my way has a sign along the lines of "We know it's frustrating when your car fails its WOF, but please don't take it out on the counter staff")

Seems reasonable to me to fail a bike because of wheel bearings, forks, and a damaged tyre, I'd rather not share the road with a bike that's about to fall to bits. Number plate light is required by law http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/roadcode/motorcycle-road-code/about-your-vehicle/motorcycle-requirements.html although I don't think anybody ever checks if it actually illuminates your number plate.
I hope he checked if you've got a rear reflector as well....

The only fail here is riding a bike with all of those faults.
You can get yourself a trailer number plate light from pretty much any auto parts store. Wire the two wires from it to your taillight (not your brake light!) and you're done. They're ugly, but cheap and easy to fit/remove.
Other options include bolts with LEDs built into them. A little more pricey, but a more final solution.

On the one hand, we have people whinge that paying for a WOF is a joke because they don't check everything perfectly, and on the other, people that bitch when they get failed on basic items like this. I for one never want to be a WOF inspector.
From what I recall there isn't a clear portion there; the owner was lamenting Honda's trick of using weird clips and plastic pieces molded into the fairing to retain the taillight... apparently after 21 years it's all a bit brittle.
It's no biggy OP, just fit a light and you're off. If you're desperate for a warrant, steal a push bike front light from your mum and tape if above the plate.

Speaking to a guy that performs WOF inspections he advised that they have to make a judgement call and if they don't believe a component will last until the next WOF they are meant to fail it. Not sure how true this is, but if this is the case then it appears to an appropriate decision.
Why not try using some of the tread on the edges, tyre may last longer that way.

One of the questions on my WOF certification test was 'If a tyre measures 1.6 mm of tread do you a) pass it, b) fail it, or c) pass it but tell the customer that it probably won't pass next time.
I chose c - and got it wrong.
Apparently it's not my place to be making such a judgement call.

You dont have 28 days to not fix the issues and keep riding
I believe that once a WoF has been failed, a person can only operate the vehicle to-from a place of repair or to the testing station.
Unlike in Germany, where if you fail a WoF you have to get a towtruck to take your car away from the testing station.

For $600-$700 make sure your mechanic is REPLACING the wheel bearings, not just greasing them.

fork seals will be the expensive bit. I recently took the forks out of my bike and handed it to the shop all ready to pull apart and it was still $280 to replace $11 seals!

this is the pricing when i sent the email in the morning i didn't get anything back till late afternoon, after i saw the repairman about it at lunch
Pirelli sport demon 100/80-17 $159.00 not including fitting (fitting is $50)
Front wheel bearings $24.90 each, requiring 2
Front forks, this will be priced on the hourly rate @ $108.00 per hour, not sure how long it would take as it depends on what they find if they find anything that is, I.e., fork seals may need replacing.

Just what sort of tail light cover does your bike have? The oem part would have a built-in clear portion on the underside.Had another look cause that seems cheap and logical, and sure enough, the undertray is neatly cut away to expose the two brake light bulbs. Turn that sucker on and get on your hands and knees; unless it has been modified you should be able to see the two tail light bulbs easily through a piece of clear plastic right where you'd expect :woohoo:

If the tyre is worn down to the wear indicators it is a fail.
If the tyre has no wear indicators then the old ruling of less than a minimum of 1.5 mm tread across ¾ of the tyre is a fail.
If the shock absorbers are leaking it is a fail.
If the shocks do not work how they are intended to (no oil = bouncy bouncy) it is a fail.
The registration plate must have a white reflected light and must be visible at 20 meters at night.
I have my AVI cert, and I’m twiddling my thumbs till it expires so I no longer have to deal with people who whinge and bitch because they haven’t figured out that things wear out when you use them.
Look at it this way, you get your sticker after crying that your tyre is still good for the trip home, you wipe out on gravel and go under a bus and the poor prick who couldn’t be arsed arguing with you goes to jail.

my forks still bounce as i went to move it and slipped abit going forward and grab the front breaks to hold me kind of stressed tested it when i was falling foward (getting the car out last night, washing it) in fact i'll videcamcorder it to show tyre as well, to show you how much Theard there is.. i'm pretty sure once you saw it you would do the same $159 is a bit of money
the tyre was to see if it was ok, cause me and 6 other people said the same thing it looks brand new apart from those little patchs which are worn - its not biggie to replacing it was just a quote to see if i can still use it which i though it would... if you looked at the photos......
at the end of the day which in my last posts, i quoted "its getting fixed, and i'm not riding it" - only time i'll be riding it is to get it fix.
so please i know you wanted to put in your 2 cents worth, this was sorted all yesterday no point continuing it..........

Is this possible? I tried in the console to run the py install files, but distutils (.core, ccompiler) isn't being found. Is it possible to still install them
they why that have experts in differnet fields yours is AVI I Get sick of people moaning about Code, i cant do it or understand aswell its life, people get over it

humm i just looked up http://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicle/choosing/basics.html#tyres it quotes
Good tyre tread is essential for road grip especially in wet weather. Legally, treads must be at least 1.5mm deep across three quarters of the tread pattern around the entire tyre. However, if you have tread depth indicators in the principal grooves then you must have at least 1.5mm tread depth in these areas. - my tyre doesn't have indictors

reading that my tyre should pass,
Quoted directly from my VIRM......
Reason for rejection.
11. A tyre doesn not have a tread pattern depth of at least 1.5mm (excluding and tie-bar or tread depth indicator strip) around the whole circumference of the tyre:
a)within all the principal grooves that normally contain moulded tread depth indicators, or
b) if the tyre does not normally have moulded tread depth indicators (such as some retreaded or vintage tyres), across at least three-quarters of the tread width.
I'd be highly surprised if your tyres didn't have tread depth indicators.

Just a little blob of rubber (about the size of a thumb nail co-incidentally) within a tread groove at various locations around the tyre. When wear gets to the blob it's time to replace the tyre.

One of the pictures you uploaded on page 2 shows what looks like a wear indicator (raised bit in the groove of the tread) that is sitting flush with the surface of the tyre - indicating that it's fucked.
The same thing can clearly be seen at 00:24 of your video.
Have a look at the edge of the tyre, where the sidewall meets the tread, near these "bumps". There will likely be TWI, or something similar stamped into the rubber.

So the tyre is good except for the bits where it has worn down to the bits that are there to tell you your tyre is fucked.

Not sure how true this story is, but I heard a dealership in Wgtn sold and fitted some after market cans and when it came time for the dude to get a new WOF, they failed him on too much noise

Not sure how true this story is, but I heard a dealership in Wgtn sold and fitted some after market cans and when it came time for the dude to get a new WOF, they failed him on too much noise
How's this for a scenario.
Dude walks into dealership, "I want me some cans for my TL/SV/GSXR/R1 Blade. Noisy ones please" Guy behind the counter says "Well yeah, we can get these ones but you might need extra baffleing ro swap them back when it comes to WOF time" Guy sez "I can handle that, I'll have 'em."
Dude sells his bike some time later, neglecting to inform the buyer of much except where he'd had the pipes fitted. New owner takes it there for a WOF and "SOrry mate, you've failed. Pipes are too fucken noisey"
Hmmmmm.......

As both those bikes have the number plate light as standard (They use the tail light bulb with a white opening at the bottom), I would be interested in what modifications they had done to change this.
Me and you both, the mod was like this when i got the Bike in the original form, and i remember when replacing the fairing with repsol's i didn't get any lighting part from the break lights...
i can always just do a cheap job, get two white lights. mount it just upbove my number plate, link the wires to the battery with an on and off switch, so if i don't ride at night, i just kept it off, i wondering if they pass it like that?

It'll turn it on and off with the bike, and it'll be protected by a fuse.

It's just a pain these WOF testers like to be annoying. Why can't they get a job where they contribute to safety?
And allowing vehicles that fail the wof on the road would contribute towards a safer enviroment ??

Mined did too! =P took it into another VTNZ (just to see what they say, cause i think i pissed off the other guy when i originally got it checked, by cracking a joke.. they looked at it, i just said .. "look, i went into another VTNZ place as you see in my record, i think they are abit hard, my bike getting serviced next week the earliest possible wife needs the car, can you just double check what is on my records i need to get fixed and see if its that bad and i need to get it fixed before i get my WOF
the guy who checked it, took a ride on it, came back after 30min, and said, i don't know why the other store failed it.... you do need the white light no biggie as long you can get it done asap, your bearing are a little rough but that not going to cause any major problems, its still rideable ....(just don't overdo it) your forks seem fine, and it does have bit of oil, no reason to fail it cause i did a few emergency stops, your breaks need oiling tho.... (which i did last night) apart from that.. your front tyre needs replacing but its only minor, just don't spend more than 3 weeks on it.....
and then a Big Pass!, (i knew i was right!, fucking hate it when people don't listen when in fact you know you are right! tough world out there, can't even crack a joke to Inlighten the day)

would an ethical ( if they exist ) dealership do the following:
1) Fail your bike due to too loud after market pipes.
2) you take your bike to them with stock pipes and say, put the original ones back on do the WOF and then put the after market ones back on ( for a fee of course )
I'm wondering if they'd actually do that? I'm sure most would. I was considering having to do this as I can't be arsed doing the pipe removal myself. Luckily I found a hog only mechanic that didn't seem to give a shit about the noise.

Oh hi phiretrojan i hear your bike having problems whats wrong with it, ...
oh hi there, yea needs a new tire wheel bearings etc,
oh ok, i can over come and help fix it for a small cost, i can get parts cheap, and i'll show you how to fix it too, seem you don't know much about bike repairing
Choice that would be awesome,
man thats all it takes. but i get 100% bitching and pms, so much for the quote "motorcycle family" anyways i downloaded a manual i didn't take it back to another VTNZ that was bullshit, cause i knew you's would bitch and moan like little girls over Justin Bieber about it "yes it was mean, but funny to see what you say" i know 100% if that fail its for a good reason, so i fixed it myself after reading the cbr 250 service repair manual, parts from ebay....
Sold the bike to a mate for 4.5k based in nelson he's in wgtn going to pick it up tis weekend 4.5k and turn it into a racebike,
so i did say i was going to stop riding, but i'm thinking start from scratch a brand new bike!, question is what
so to get you thinking how much i ride ... i had the bke for 3years, at 28k, i am just hitting about 36k/38k now, .... i ride.... shit all!
so due to the fact my bike might fall apart "if i didnt fix it" is 25% or less . cause i'm lucky to ride 2 times per week.. but you took it in a fact where you think i ride everyday..... you need to stop and think possible questions, before you speak your mind, like the quote says " Think Twice Before You Speak Once" before insulting or offending someone =) sorry its straight to the point but in reality its 100% true on this forum...
Thank you jonbuoy for trying to help out, but 100% they are not going to listen, as typical people they would debate it...... so just save your keystrokes, thanks for trying, but i can challege these pack of pagbago na zombies, trying to eat through my flesh, thinking "Mmm" Fresh Meat, but this fresh meat doesn't back off, i have my shotgun loaded "virtual" and my c4 ready "virtual" as Bruce Willis would say "Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!" =) lol lol lol,
if you take the last part serious, man i don't know! - yes i may be poor, yes i may be young, to the fact you were once, you grow and learn by your mistakes, and that's what i am doing, my mistake was signing up here and asking for advice where in fact i'll get people QQ over my problems......
yes it does sound like i'm not in a happy mood, i did wakeup on the wrong side of the bed, it does sound like i'm having PMS whatever you want to say..... well guess what, i don't really care.... so personally if you are not going to fucking help me, just don't bother replying back, just save your pointless jokes or unappeasable comments to another section...
