Snapped cluth cable today. Had to leave my bike in Orewa 2k's from my home in Red Beach.
Anyone in the area tomorrow afternoon with a trailer etc could help me get the bike home in Red Beach (prob 2 ks away)

Any help appreciated 021625592

you can ride a bike woithout a clutch ya know.....The hardest part is starting from a stop.Once rolling and engine running just stomp it into gear, you can then change gears surprisingly easy, try to have the drivetrain under no load when you actually change gear(virtually coasting) as you come to a stop you have to click into neutral.

What he said.

2 examples I was quite pleased of.
South Island trip with pillion & pack. Managed to drop the bike at about 3km/hr after low speed turn resulting in a broken clutch lever on my '90 VFR750.
No worries, small slope so pillion and pack on board start engine & coast down slope till sufficient speed and off we go. Was a little concerning as we encounted the road/rail bridge south of Westport.. no clutch so just drove on through. All good till Westport where we encountered a round-about. Slow right down .. but darn alot of traffic and I had to kill the bike to giveway to turning vehicle.
Road was all flat and I was then stuck. So logical of course .. Ditch pack and pillion. Start bike, push it up to speed and jump on and off to find an engineering shop to weld my clutch lever. Very thankful to locate a specialist alloy welder between Christmas & new year in Westport. But got it all together and 40 mins later ride back to collect pillion & pack!

2nd event. Daughters Bandit 400 broken clutch cable across town. Managed to make it through 4 sets of lights, 2 roundabouts & 2 give way right turns. I felt quite accomplished at the end of that !
Sweeted it though .. it was 5pm and plenty of traffic !

Sorry I dont have a trailer but I third the clutchless technique. I know it sounds weird but you really dont need a clutch except for taking off and stopping without stalling. Getting started is going to be your hardest thing, Orewa is very flat. If you dont want to attempt that you could also go and get a replacement clutch cable and fit it to the bike.

Give me a call around midday if you haven't got anyone by then. I may be able to borrow a mate's small trailer, but not sure whether I'll have our car which is the only one with a towbar. I should know by then. 426 1335

+1 for clutchless method. I had the hydraulic clutch on my ZX7R fuck out in rush hour traffic. It was... an interesting experience but I made it home safely.
