Recently got my fiance into riding, she bought a cbr125 brand new, went to casbolts honda (in chch) first, they were not very welcoming or appear interested in helping her. So we went to hamton honda, which is much further away but came out smiling with a brand new bike and gear. Perfect. Now my fiances friend is looking to purchase a new bike to learn and commute on and she loves the VTR250, so off she went to casbolts... Same problem again, they didnt appear to want to help her with all the questions she had regarding the bike and gear, they "couldnt give her any gear" at all, not even an fing helmet, while still wanting $8900 for the bike! So off to hampton honda where she got the bike for $8400 with $700 worth of free gear aswell. And the best part is the friendly, helpfull staff. Ive been riding hondas for over 10 years and quite often had to unwillingly deal with casbolts, but when hampton came along a few years ago, i will now drive across town to get honda service. Cmon casbolts, cheer up eh...

double fail for casbolts & double win for hamton honda? $15,000 worth of sales walking out the door can't be good for their business:doh:

I don't believe it! Casbolts Honda have some of the most friendly staff anywhere! The old guy that owns the place is awesome, always happy for you to sit on the bikes and try their gear on... always happy to cut a deal too. The guy behind the parts counter isn't an abrubt arsehole at times either. I was really happy about getting my brand new Honda from there... it made me really happy to repay them for all the awesome service I had when I was a teenager just starting into bikes... they were always polite and never treated me like I was some sort of potential theif who was never going to buy a new bike every couple of years once I graduated. Go Casbolts Honda, you're really awesome.

what he said. I didnt use a dealer 80km away when buying a brand new Honda road bike a few years ago because of issues years before either.

I bought a bike of Casbolts when they were in New Regent St, and Craig still greets me by name. They seem like good guys although Greg can be a bit abrupt and old Graham Casbolt is a grumpy old bugger

Because most people that get good service just go home, sit back and crack a beer. People who get shit service feel the need to vent.

I think that studies have shown that good service experiences get told to six people whereas bad service is in the mid twenties.
These specs are pre internet so the goal posts have shifted somewhat, but you get the idea.

Therefore it would make sense to put 3-4 times the effort into giving good service than the usual "can't be arsed bro" sort. Innit?

It's not the staff who get the profits, therefore they usually don't care. I've worked in a shop before so I know the whole "Can't be phucked helping" attitude.

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me at all. The staff's share of the profits are actually called wages, cos with no profits there ain't no wages.
There's a reason it's called "Hired help" and not "Hired can't be phucked help"
Many is the time I have been a customer at some establishment or another and commented "If that person worked for me, they wouldn't be..."

If you were to work at a shop where the boss treated their staff like shit then you wouldn't care about the profits either.

Any bike shop that treats female motorcyclists condescendingly does so at their own peril. The bike shop's loss, eh?

I agree, if the boss treats their staff like shit, then the boss probably treats their customers like shit too.
Either way the business will suffer IMO

and when my son had his Street Triple in for it's 20,000k service at Motorrad he had to get them to come and pick it up when it seriously overheated - they hadn't bled the cooling system and they had broken a tab on the airbox and superglued it back on, obviously hoping he'd never notice. In their defence they immediately accepted his comments, fixed the cooling problem and offered him a new airbox and $200 shop credit. But it should never have happened.
I'd be interested to know what other people's experiences are. I think the problem with bike shops is that they feel as though we should be honoured to be allowed to deal with them.

You're fucken joking! You obviously work there/know them/have a gun pointing at your head as you type. Which one is it please? Your opinion is completely at odds with this and other threads re:Casbolts. Happy for you to sit on the bikes? Oh yeah and which bikes were those? This is my favourite bit "they were always polite and never treated me like I was some sort of potential theif who was never going to buy a new bike every couple of years once I graduated." Methinks you doth protest too much...........Casbolt Junior!

Same can be said about your sense of humor unfortunately.
After reading through this thread, not jumping to defend the name and reputation of Casbolts, I just want to say that I have had pleasant experience dealing with the guys at Casbolts over the past 18 months. I admit their sense of humor is a bit on the dry side but overall they are helpful and genuinely don't mind you go and pick their brain in regards to the bikes and all...
YMMV.

I have had a very similar experience in Wellington. Not going to name the Dealer as I'm over it.
My observations are that most Dealers/ Sales staff seem to make the same mistake(s), some of which are:
- Look beyond the current sale, most of us will actually trade up and buy more than just the bike
- Value the customer no matter what they do, how they dress, what their knowledge/ experience is or what their personality is like, or how much they spend today
- Understand that you are not the only source of Bikes, Parts, Services. sale etc are so much closers thanks to the net
I could go on. Sadly some of these items are not restricted to just bikes.

Unfortunately Casbolts is another one of those stores that cater to men over the age of 50 with money. If you walk into the shop and you don't fit the criteria, then they don't want to know you.
Have dealt with Hampton and had no problems, though I must admit that we dealt with Joe, who has since moved on to the Suzuki world.
Some places need to learn the females, younger people and people who may not appear to have all the money in the world just might surprise them, so treat everyone the same.

All this Casbolts talk sounds familiar to AMPS up in aucks.
I'd pay twice the price anywhere else for anything over going back there (mind-you AMPS are usually twice the price anyway/hard to get to with shit parking.....).
They seem to be un-able to think that this young sports-bike rider actually buys things like bike gear, and that one day when I have the money i'd really like a Triumph cruiser, which I do. Unfortunately i'm no sucker for punishment and will never ever buy anything from that store. I will not be blatantly ignored and be spoken to down someones nose as a customer and come back for more. Same goes for all my friends getting into bikes, or others already into that I share my experiences with.
