Buckets only?
Wahoo, road trip.

Easter is way better than Taupo, at least for track time.
Max time on the track at Taupo = 120 minutes
Max time on the track at Kaitoke = 240 minutes or more

This really is one of those cases where if you do actually turn up and race in a GP you will be saying something like "Shit, I wish I'd given this a go sooner, its fucken fantastic".
You don't seem to swear as much as me tho so it might not be quite the same but you get the idea.

I'm sure I would have fun, but on a stock FXR150 the fun would be clouded over by anger at being completely blitzed down the straights. It's bad enough on a small Kart track. I'm ok with being beaten as long as my bike is as good as the other guys that are beating me.

For me it's also getting to stay the night between days and having a break from Wgtn and the family. As much as I love em. if I didn't get the break I'd want to shoot those lovely little darlings of mine.

Welcome to motor racing.
You need to not worry about who has the most power and just ride the wheels of your bike. It will never be an even playing field. My bike has more grunt than yours, you and your bike are probably 30kg lighter then me. Get what I mean. You are young and fit I am old and fat.

You will still do pretty good, how good? we may never know if you keep up that attitude ;)
Shit man its good fun! The night (or two) on the piss with like-minded souls from around the country is certainly a major drawcard.
Really man, I've raced a stock FXR there (more stock too - still on road tyres) I came 9th. We both know how we compare on the Kart track so it may not be as bad as you think...

Main reason we travel to every meeting we can.
Wellington is a bit of a stretch for us but we hit Hastings three times last year as well as Taumarunui, the Easter meet at Kaitoke and of course Taupo.
I was never going to win the GP (or at any track in NZ to be fair) but that doesn't mean I can't have a huge amount of fun scrapping it out in the mid pack. I've only ever won one race (a last change qualifier at Mt Welly), made a gap and managed to keep it, to be honest I have more fun with someone either up my pipe or just ahead, riding around on my own doesn't interest me that much, even if it was by some miracle to be at the front.

Its longer and more open than Roy's so I've been told. 13 49 should be fine. With the 12 on the front you get to use all the gears. Check out the King of kaitoke vids of mine that should give you an idea of what the track is like.

I run an 11/49 gearing on my stock FXR150 (yes, 11 tooth front) and I get nice and high through the rev range in 6th, but not all the way past it's useful power. It works really well, I do the whole track in 4th and only need 5th and 6th for the back straight and up (or down) the hill. I will probably need to change to 12/49 when I get my cams sorted.
I have used 12/49 on the stock FXR150 before and I was only getting 6th gear going Reverse direction down the hill and not using much of 6th gear. It also meant I was having to change gears in some of the more tighter spots on the track.

Was wondering about Team Biddle, as I'd heard a rumour Av was keen on coming down. We'd have room for the bike, but not another person (I can not stand sitting in the middle of the front seat for more than 5 hours, so Roy's Hill is as far as we'll have a tag-along - my DR650's seat is just as comfortable, and therefore not used for touring much).
How many corners on a driveway? How many could you fit in? If there's not enough, we just go round in circles and make some - all good, we'll be fine hahaha
Right, sounds like van packed, clothes in dryer, we'll be ready, thermos heating up, wine being drunk, my world's okay for now hehehe

Surely that should be a scale representation of the Kaitoke circuit so you can point out the hot lines to us, not that I'm likely to remember them in the morning.
As Michelle said van loaded and glass in hand, note to wine buffs, Petes Shed 2008 Pinot Noir, best avoided, think I'll switch to port.

A BIG thank you to all those that turned up over the two days. Sorry about the weather - if only if rained more or less we would have been right. Great racing on the dry track for most of the time.
My biggest thanks goes to those that helped me run the event - everyone who flagged while they weren't racing as well as Kendog, Trudes, Bert, Mudflaps, Str8 Jacket, Fishie, F5 Dave, Clivoris, Henk, Dutchee, Coffee Junkie and everyone else I've missed - there were so many. You all made the event work. A thank you to the Phil and Vicki from KartSport Wellington for putting on the Cafe and setting up the track with flags and extinguishers etc. Also thanks to our Steward; those that were listening to the riders briefing on Sunday will know what I'm on about.
I'll try and dream up some results as we didn't take any - this was all about the FUN.

A huge thank you to Str8Jacket and Koba. Str8, your head might now be in the right place, I'm hoping mine is there as well - if not, it's heading in the right direction (clockwise, ya can keep ya anti-clockwise for now lol). This weekend was exactly what the (fun) doctor ordered.
I just wish it wasn't an 8 hour drive, or we'd be down more often (the liver thanks the bucket gods for this, but you can always get a new one, can't you?)
Huge thanks to Skunk for a well-run, fun event - and definitely thanks for the C grade. Sorry to Trudes for not letting you know the "I'm not riding tomorrow" actually meant "I might ride tomorrow, but today has been so much fun, I don't want to leave on a downer". I'm thrilled I did decide to ride today, but it wasn't quite as much fun as when we had a 3-4 way chick freight-train.
Oooooh, and blue flags - so wierd to see them because I'm/we're coming through instead of being to let me know someone else is coming up behind me lol. I think that was the shocker of the weekend - thanks to Koba as well for making Str8 (who I was chasing) stuff up to let me through hahaha (soooo funny, like hell I would've imagined I could keep up with her, but wait till next time, I'll be watching from a distance as per normal).
Girlracer - you did awesome, and look forward to the next time (will confirm July with you).
Hell, thanks to everyone for an absolutely awesome weekend, and so glad we're home tonight, as the traffic was heavy enough already. The early finish was around the time we'd planned on heading home, so we were both stoked we didn't actually miss out on anything.
Man, I just can't believe I kept up with Str8 and Trudes, and even more shocking, I won my first ever race (please note, I started from the back even). Girlracer - congratulations on your second place, and also your control of the wheelie hahaha (shhhhhh everyone, they don't need to know details of our victory hahahahahahaha). Oh hell, I'm tired, I've got the whole motion thingy happening, I may or may not have got a speeding ticket (2 weeks till I know as it was a speed camera).
Thanks to Ocean as well, for picking up and delivering the pipes, shame I didn't get more of a chance to talk to you (like an offer of a ride if it'd been okay with the Welly crew).
Thanks to the steward, you really were appreciated, and good for a giggle as well.
Thanks to the flaggies, sorry I didn't flag more, but I couldn't quite work out how to take a drink out in the race and didn't want to be totally dehydrated before starting on the after-race drinks lol.
Oh, Rick, I just meant it was a bit of a haul from our place to your place to pick up your bike for the weekend - and as some alcohol had been consumed, thought it not a brilliant idea to do it (forgot about you being on-call, but I'm stoopid like that).
Anyway, will think of more tomorrow (oooooh, sorry Bert - thanks for doing the lap counting and main flag point - I figured if I stopped indicating how many laps we had to go on warm-up I'd lose my mojo, so I had to keep doing it)
Yeah, thanks to everyone, fantastic fun. Night (we need copies of the board game, but somehow think we need to tidy it up a bit, as some of the instructions by Henk weren't that easy to read and at $1m a pop, not sure it'll be a top-seller just yet hahaha). Trudes - good point about the licence - we did have an MNZ steward or three, but didn't think about the licence.

Easter Buckets Kaitoke
After a pleasant drive down from Auckland to Alicetown we met up with our gracious hosts at their place and settled in for a few quiets, Pizza and bike racing DVDs on Friday night, the biggest concern for the weekend was the possible crap weather to come, thankfully this didn’t really eventuate and we headed to the track bright and early Saturday morning with a few light showers possible.
At the track there was a rather large queue of cars waiting to get in the gate as the guy with the key had run out of petrol on the way up, which gave everyone time to have a relaxed chat and eat race pies for breakfast.
Once in the gate, grab a pit shed, unload and walk the track. For those that haven’t been to Kaitoke you really should make the effort, the surface is great, with everything from fast sweepers to the worlds tightest corner at Chicago, it is also wide enough to allow plenty of lines through most corners and the way it is laid out with elevation changes up the hill gives a great view of pretty much the whole track from the pits.
Numbers were good enough to run A, B, and C grades with a good turnout in each class and good hard racing in all grades throughout the day. Watching Rich and Fishy leaning on each other hard in corners as they came past was astounding, even more impressive when you consider that they had started half a lap behind the rest of the field and still carved their way through everybody else in the 10 lap races. Down in the mid pack where I was wobbling around things were almost as hard fought with four way battles between, Malcolm, Simon, Adrian and myself but a fair bit more polite. The fact that the bike that Mihi was going to ride wasn’t running properly and she ended up on mine in the C grade gave me a bit of extra confidence to push hard from the start as there was heat in the tires from the minute I rolled onto the track for warm up. I would try and write some race reports for the day but there was so much racing that the details have all blurred, all I can remember is that there was lots of it and it was all close and hard fought.
Later in the afternoon the promised drizzle came in and slowly made the track slipperier as time went on, things were getting interesting grip wise in the last A grade race and the B grade had it worse with the track getting more treacherous by the minute, after a three bike pile up on lap one the race was red flagged and the meeting called, by that stage everyone had had enough racing for the day. With the amount of track time and the fact that everybody had someone to battle with, the whole field was buzzing with the possible exception of Detlev who had been shipped off to Hutt hospital with a suspected broken collar bone.
Van loaded we headed back to Alicetown via the Hospital to show Grant where to collect the walking wounded, Detlev was in surprisingly good spirits having been told that nothing was broken but he had damaged his AC ligaments.
Out for dinner at the local Pub (The Parrot if I’m not mistaken) for a great meal and a few beers with out hosts and Dave T. Since we weren’t camping at the track the now traditional evening track walk wasn’t possible so after some debate about track layout and rules, a round of Kaitoke the board game was won by Helen after a shortened race distance of five laps.
Sunday
The weather wasn’t looking as bad as expected but everyone was feeling a tired and sore after a huge amount of track time the day before and this combined with the threatening rain may have been the reason for the lower numbers on Sunday. I wasn’t all that motivated myself but rolled onto the track for the last two laps of practice to see where the damp spots were only to find that the track was remarkably dry.
Race one, best start I’d had all weekend then hit neutral on the upshift and went backwards, fast. Slotted in behind Adrian and rode as hard as I had all Saturday and chased him for ten laps hoping he would make some sort of mistake, as there was no other way I was getting past. Unfortunately the only time he made any sort of error I had cocked up the previous corner and was too far back to capitalize.
Race two, I rolled up to the grid and nobody seemed to want pole, suits me fine and when the flag dropped I managed to slot in behind Caleb Adlam and hound him for the entire race, the only other bikes I saw were Adlam senior coming through and then backing off again playing around with no real competition on the day and Hamish who slid on past later in the race. Crossed the line about six feet behind Caleb having found no way past him and with no errors on his part for me to capitalize on.
Race three again nobody seemed to want the front row grid positions so I grabbed second on the grid with nobody on pole until Malcolm turned up at the last minute. Flag drops and I managed to grab the holeshot. Since I always seem to get crap starts I couldn’t believe it and leading a race was a completely new experience for me. I was expecting to get monstered by Andrew A and Hamish at any minute and rode harder and faster than I ever have, pushed along by the fact that I could hear Mr Murphy behind me the whole way and knowing that he would stick it up the inside if I showed the slightest sign of weakness. About lap three a light rain began to fall but with the sound of an FXR breathing down my neck behind me I wasn’t prepared to let up, three laps later Andrew A came past me for the second time at the end of the back straight having been by once before and then backed off again, this time he promptly fell off the tires and slid into the grass. I should have taken this as a warning about the deteriorating track conditions but kept pushing as I was more worried about the following traffic, this bit me two laps later when both ends let go at once in the left hander after Chicago, and the bike slid three feet sideways on tires and knee before the whole thing got away on me and we parted company for a gentle skid across the track and into the grass. I got the bike picked up and started again and did another couple of laps before pulling in since I couldn’t get my head right after the crash and had lost all confidence in the grip on offer. Back in the pits Hamish told me that things had been getting a bit sketchy for the previous two laps and he had decided to let me make a mistake instead of cleaning us both out, the right approach as it turned out.
At this stage the meeting was called as it looked like the weather wasn’t going to improve and the track was likely to stay a skating rink so we packed up, said our goodbyes and headed home.
A huge thanks to Malcolm and Helen for convincing us to come down and putting us up for three days (and putting up with us for three days) as well as Skunk and all the others that put on an awesome weekend. If you haven’t been to Kaitoke you need to make the effort at some stage, the track is absolutely brilliant and the people are as good as bucket folk everywhere. If we could only make one away trip a year it would be to Wellington despite the 8 hour drive each way, I’ll be booking annual leave for the October round of the NI series as soon as I get back to work.

Awesome report! I have video footage of Andrews crash and your crash also. I will be uploading a bit more than 20 minutes of footage very shortly. My girlfriend filmed a lot of racing on her pocket camera and the footage has turned out to be really good! There is footage of everyone in A grade and a very short bit of B grade.

Thanks to Andrew and the helpers.
Caleb and I were their for the Sunday. The weater was not to good. Not wet enough for wets but slipery with slicks. I took out 3 bikes for the day and fell off all of them. Only broke one clutch lever though. After everyone else packed up the track dryed out so a few of us spent an hour or two going around and around. Good fun.
Thanks to Dave for the spark plug for the 50.
Sorry I didnt get to say good buy I was out on the track but thanks to the out of towners that made it down. Look forward to seeing you next time.

Our podium postions (for the frist time) were won fearly.
At a winter olympics sometime in the recent history, an Australian was in the speed skating semi final race - coming dead last. The top three (who were totally blitzing him) took each other out, and he won the race. Finals time - he's well out-classed again and looking at fourth. The top three racers took each other out, and he won the gold medal. No idea of his name, but funny as hell that it happened in two or more of his races (he really shouldn't have even been in the semis as he was way slow).
But yip, we won our podium positions fair & square - but I still think the best thing about it all, we had FUN!!!! It's so cool that you can see all the way around the track and push/gauge yourself, I guess that's a huge thing for me, and probably why I haven't enjoyed a couple of the other tracks I've ridden recently (not that I've hated the tracks, I absolutely loved Tokeroa.

The race started in the dry, I was just too stupid to slow up when the track got slippery because I could hear Hamish the whole time and thought he'd have me as soon as I slowed up.

Apologies for the standard of photography but the night wasn't that young by the time we had finished arguing about track layout and rules.

I thought the whole weekend was non-points. I did what I hoped I'd do - have FUN!!!! There was someone else in C on Sunday, but he moved up to B as couldn't handle having no contest lol, but don't know his name either.
Before heading home on Sunday, watching the bikes being tested (and the track drying out again), I was thinking how different it was from up by the clubrooms to on the track (turn one)
Now have to wait for a few more weeks before heading out again, but am still buzzing, and thrilled to have that feeling back again. I'd almost given up on away meets (planning on still going, but leaving the bike behind but so glad I didn't).
Trudes would've ridden (impression I got) except we were all talking about not riding after Saturday as the weather was due for a change, and we'd all had such a good day (didn't want a downer of a day Sunday). I missed the other females out there Sunday, but was still happy circulating.
Sorry for not picking up the camera to take snaps of A-grade, but I was enjoying the atmosphere and couldn't be stuffed really hahaha (I did give it half a thought but decided against bothering)

At Tokoroa (10th April 2011), Stephen B. (the organiser of the awesome event) suggested I think about creating a NZ bucket list with names, faces and racing shots. I have heaps of racing photos from around the North Island but would need to take the face-with-bike shots. I also realise that it will take time commitment from me and some riders might also not want to be listed. I have thought about it, and after reading about the Aussie site today, in this thread, I'll do it if people want it :).
I will only use Flickr.com as I use it often and know it well – I can also achieve a better photographic result than the Aussie site (IMHO). I'll post this in the general Buckets thread for feedback as it does not belong under this thread, so please respond there.

Max. Power Output -* 16.6kW/12,500min-1 (95/1/EC)

I recon Chambers gp100 at 22h/p (last years engine) would give it a run for it's money and be class legal
- 111cc Air-cooled single cylinder 2 stroke
I think that you would get smoked x 10. They are fast and light and rev hard.

now i want to weigh one of the gp's
21kg as measured on an old set of bathroom scales.
If I get a chance I will calibrate the scales with 20L of water. 20l = 20kg.

I'm with you Richban, if a CRF150Rb is **** let them race, I'm keen to give one a go, only thing is.... NEVER go full retard :spanking:
The way to do a trans tasman challenge would be to invite a bunch of them over here and loan them good bikes and then go over there and ride some of their bikes.
It is fraught with difficulties like getting enough bikes and the sheer cost but it could actually happen one day...

This conversation has poped up before. Speedpro looked into an option for stacking bikes into a container and shipping them over in the 90's (I think; I'm sure he will correct me).
The cost is not as bad as you would think; (one of my work mates shipped his racing boat over there before christmas; for some national series??)

Screw the trans Tasman thing. Would be better to focus on a Proper National level Race. Proper GP, With Proper Length. 30mins+. Taupo or Ruapuna B. Or Both. 2 GPs winner take all (what ever that my be).

No...... to get an accurate reading I was going to freeze the 20l of water .........

Not that I'm fast enough to even qualify to ride in it... maybe we can have a B Grade fun GP also, purely to make entry fee cheaper...

Well enough of this pie in the sky bucketers are going to travel heaps sort of carry on.
I've changed the master cylinder of my 50 & now the brake has some modulation. It was rather on/off & was giving me gyp with not enough brakes or too much.

Defiantly the place to start.
Has there been a national TT?
What the fuck is a TT and GP, just one race that is nominated prior as the one that counts?

Yeah I used to be the most travelled bucketer easily. Auckland & Chch meetings from Wgtn & I'd be the only traveller most times. Occasionally ther'd be an event where there was a big push.
Those are some big k's to go and race buckets, not sure I'd bother :gob:
