Please can anybody tell me if and why the outside of the top slider front fork bushes are worn (lost their teflon coating) and the inside isn't? the bottom bushes are fine. This is exactly the same on each fork. See attached pics of top fork bushes. Were they made with no teflon coating?
They're off a VFR800 1999 model pre vtec single exhaust model.

I'm fairly certain there should be no teflon lining on the outside of those bushes.

The inside of those bushes are what you should be checking:msn-wink:

There are two sets of bushes.
One set have a coating on the inside the other have the coating on the outside.

Ok the bottom set odf bushes has the coating on the oustside as you say and that's all ok (not worn off at all, can't see any copper) the top sliders in the pictures have teflon coating on the inside and that is fine as well. Just don't know why they don't have teflon on the outside of the top bushes as they slide between the inside of the main slider tube and the main fork tube ? Will consult Honda dealer tomorrow.
thanks all for comments

The top bushes should not be moving. The fork tube slides through them, hence the need for teflon on the inside.
If the teflon is in good condition, and no other obvious signs of damage are evident, Id refit them.
What bike are they off?
Are they convential tube, or up side down?
A bit more info from yourself will make it a hell of alot easier to give advise to you.
If your not totally sure of what your doing with your suspension, then possibly you shouldn't be pulling it to bits.
Take this comment however you like:msn-wink:

The top bushes are held securely in place in the fork legs and do not move therefore there is no need to have a coating on the outside.

Katman etc are correct. The teflon low friction coating is only applied to the wearing surfaces in contact with the chrome slider
