The last time i had a ticket was a year or so ago. Road to Hanmer , about 10pm, got done for 116k in my car. No issue with that. There was no traffic on the road and i'd been doing a lot more earlier. What gripped is that a couple of days later i get another ticket in the post for failing to signal when pulling back on to road. i challanged that, and the officers explanation was that the traffic was "very busy". There were about two cars that passed while i waited for about ten or so minutes.
I just paid them both. Oh well, the cops a liar, he lives with that.
Just wondering, are they allowed to come on your property? Last Thursday, late, about 11.30 Pm i needed milk for breakfat, went down the local garage in my car. Very little traffic about, one or two cars. On the way back, im driving about 150 yards from home and the lights go up behind me. I carried on and pulled in my garage, and switched the engine off etc. I knew 100% i'd not committed any offence, and im normally pretty laid back, dont swear much etc, but i wanted to get to bed, so maybe came on a bit annoyed, it didnt start well.
It went like this.
Him. have you hand anything to drink tonight Sir,
Me. Not a drop, have you?
Him, does your car have a current warrant of fitness and registration?
Me, Obviously it does. ( i drive a pretty decent car and live in a good street )
He then comes into my garage and starts looking around checking the warrant etc, no problems.
Me, Why have you followed me and whats this about.
Him. just a ramdon check, if we dont pull people over we dont write many tickets.!!
Me, what the fuck, if i called you people about someone burgling my property you would,nt bother turning up !
Him, dont swear at me Sir.
Him, Do you have your driving licence?
Me gives it to him.
Him. Where do you live what number is this house.
Me. I live here, obviously, the numbers on the letter box, cant you read? But i asnwer the question anyway.
He writes it down.
Me. Give me my licence back.
Him. Im going to do a check and he wanders back to his car. he's not ging to find anything, just wasting my time.
Me. please yourself, im off to bed, i close the auto door and leave him in the drive outside the gate. Go inside and leave the front door open.
Him. About five minutes later he calls from the other side of the gate, (it's an open wrought iron big gaps in it easily seen through and easily reaced through)
He holds out my licence, i go to retreive it by reching though the gate and he holds onto it so hard my fingers slip off it. I try again, and he does it again. Third time he lets it go, i just put it back in my wallet.
Him. Trying to assert some sort of authority and power says, Dont Snatch.( i hadn't)
Me, (That's done it, im mad now so says to him). You lot, if i called you for a burglary, you wouldnt even turn up, a lot of you are as bad if not worse than the criminals your supposed to be catching. And, what are you doing following men home in the middle of the night? Are you a homo or something? Get off my property, piss orrrf, i going to sleep.
He stood there like a stunned mullet for a minute after i'd gone inside and then went away.
I honestly dont know what made me so mad, im normally quite a peacful non controntaional sort. I think it was the infringment on my personal space and him walking round my garage. Oh well.
Friends now tell me i'm a "marked man". I wonder !!!
Is it just me, or is being in the police just a a "revenue" gathering job these days that it's become their main focus.
They want repect. Pah.
Anyone else have an experience similar?

This situation was covered in a thread not toooo long ago iirc, can't for the life of me find it though.
I think the gist of it was that they couldn't come onto your property uninvited unless you were under suspicion of doing some illegal shit. They can't just waltz onto your property under the banner of 'random checks'
Lay a complaint, the guy hasn't followed procedure, and he was a prick to boot.

The bit that caught my attention most in that story was the grabbing the license back. You either had way to much KY jelly on your hands or he was almost trying to bait you, or I guess act tough and be the big man. I'll stick to my first theory

From my understanding of the thread I started about "fresh pursuit" he was 'actively following' Mr Sauce Pants but (and it's a big butt) I thought they could only come onto your property if they had a genuine cause to suspect something illegal. In this instance, if the conversation and action proceeded as recalled here, then it didn't sound justifiable and the officer was being an @rsehole.

Yeah, if he'd put his flashing lights on intended for the OP he has the right to follow anywhere. Sounds a bit officious to me, too, but as has been said, you have every right to lay a complaint. It may well be worth popping into your local station anyway and have a chat about it. As long as you're calm and reasonable you should get a hearing ear.

When you know you haven't done anything and feel you are being baited, you can understand why some people get pissed off, say 'Fuck you' and become antagonistic.
I was coming down Alexandra st here in Te A one evening, saw a checkpoint further along the street. Turned left into my driveway and next thing, two cars pulled up behind me, lights flashing. They were only doing their job, but their whole attitude wound me up.
We had quite a slanging match. In the end, he couldn't really do anything, and no, I hadn't been drinking. I'ill be buggared if I have to ask before turning into my own home if I'm not being chased.

Maybe you could have diffused the situation with humour? It was an obvious reaction to an oncoming vehicle turning off like that. I'd have cracked up laughing at them and politely explaining where I was.

When I was 17 and got mugged/assaulted on the street let me tell you the cops did not give one toss.
I mean the guys who picked me up in their paddy wagon to take a statement were nice enough, but a couple weeks after I went back to the station and there was no record of the event taking place! I had gotten the friends of the muggers phone numbers through my own sloothing and then they couldn't even do anything with the information because they had nothing to match it to.
Fuck those bastards, wonder how many of their statistics are wack because of "oh sorry we lost the case file".

read his opening post again. 'The lights came on.... then I pulled into my driveway'.
The cop signalled to pull him over. He continued onto his property. in this case, I beleive the cop CAN come onto your property. If the cop had NOT turned his lights on prior to him pulling into his driveway, then no, he couldnt have.
In the circumstance where a cop comes onto your property you need only to say the following:
Hello officer, Im afraid this is private residence, and unless you have an arrest order, or a search warrant, Im not prepared to let you onto my property.
Unless youve done something noteworthy, they will fuck off and not bother with it. If you HAVE done something noteworthy, this will give you time to find a better hiding place for the dead chinese hookers in your garage. . .

It's a common law right of access.
In England a person commits trespass whenever they access private property. In Scotland (and here) nobody commits the offence of trespass until they have been warned by the lawful occupier to leave, and have refused to do so.
I followed a bloke onto private property once to write him a ticket. It was on the North Shore years ago. I stood there writing him the ticket while he ranted about my being there. He told me I couldn't do what I was doing, which I could. I got the whole revenue collecting sermon from him and his wife. Importantly, at no stage did he ask me to leave, he just vented. As I was finishing I told him "I only had to leave when you tell me to, which would be about now, so here's your ticket, I'm off".
He defended the ticket on the basis that I couldn't be there to write it, and he was convicted.

I once attended a crash in Basset Road, Newmarket. Handy to where the machine gun murders happened, but that another story. 2 young guys flipped one of those Honda CRXs onto it's roof. They got out, turned the car back over, and drove off.
We found the car in a carport in Parnell a few minutes later. My partner and I knocked on the door, and a woman answered. We asked where the 2 young guys were, she told us they we in bed. She then asked us if we wanted to come in and speak to them. Not being the shy type, we walked upstairs, and turned the lights on in a bedroom.
I know this is hard to believe, but I swear it's true.
There was the young guy who had been driving, with a lovely young lady, in bed. I told him I wanted to discuss the crash, and he volunteered that he had been the driver. I breath tested him while he lay in bed.
That was a first for me. Turned out he was dead sober, just a crap driver.

There is no persuit unless the person being signalled to stop know's he is in persuit.
That is from the horses (police) mouth.
That is quite different from entering anothers property as fresh persuit.
The persued may not know he is in persuit of, but fresh persuit he/she still has to man up on his property.
The op mentioned he suspected he was being followed, therefore he knew he was being followed.

Lodge a complaint as his alleged behaviour is unprofessional and needs to be addressed. If anything for his own safety.
If he has 3T'd you (completed a traffic stop) there should be a record in the system, if he hasn't he's an idiot and placing himself in danger as Comms will not know his current location if he gets into a similar situation and it goes pear shaped.
Also if he has checked your personal and licence details; his details will also be embedded in another system permanently.
Guys/ Girls like this do exist but are a rarity unfortunately they reflect badly on the great work the majority of Police do.
If your local Police District fail to acknowledge your complaint lodge a complaint (online) with the IPCA.
You may actually be doing this chappie a favour.

Yes as previously stated if you're being freshly persued (section 119? of memory ish LTA)
In his defence.... I will say that it's a common tactic for people not to stop when they're near home if something is wrong. As a cop you are in a very vunerable position up someones driveway (off the roadway, not knowing who else is at the property, who you are are dealing with yet ,and not always knowing exactly number wise where you are) and if someone whizzes up without stopping personally I always expect it to be for some 'good' reason......either drunk or disqualified. When the adrenaline gets going (cos you are nervous what you're dealing with) you can appear short at first. If you FU'd into the house I would also be thinking that you were disqualified or wanted. Having said that... if I established that all was in order I would be all sweet, but you can't blame him for being twitchy at first and you've admitted your shortness in attitude which can't have helped his. If you're a good guy, you know that, but the cop doesn't know at that stage. It really puts your twitches on alert when someone pulls into a driveway, theirs or otherwise (as it often is), when you've signalled them to stop. Put yourself in those shoes in fairness before you judge wholly. It may explain the cops attitude at first, and your reaction attitude probably was the reason for the way he was at the end.
I work on my own all the time and encounter these situations now and again. They always make me very tense as you do not know what is going to happen.
