    Thumbs down My Plod rant

The last time i had a ticket was a year or so ago. Road to Hanmer , about 10pm, got done for 116k in my car. No issue with that. There was no traffic on the road and i'd been doing a lot more earlier. What gripped is that a couple of days later i get another ticket in the post for failing to signal when pulling back on to road. i challanged that, and the officers explanation was that the traffic was "very busy". There were about two cars that passed while i waited for about ten or so minutes.
I just paid them both. Oh well, the cops a liar, he lives with that.

Just wondering, are they allowed to come on your property? Last Thursday, late, about 11.30 Pm i needed milk for breakfat, went down the local garage in my car. Very little traffic about, one or two cars. On the way back, im driving about 150 yards from home and the lights go up behind me. I carried on and pulled in my garage, and switched the engine off etc. I knew 100% i'd not committed any offence, and im normally pretty laid back, dont swear much etc, but i wanted to get to bed, so maybe came on a bit annoyed, it didnt start well.
    It went like this.
Him. have you hand anything to drink tonight Sir,
Me. Not a drop, have you?
Him, does your car have a current warrant of fitness and registration?
Me, Obviously it does. ( i drive a pretty decent car and live in a good street )
He then comes into my garage and starts looking around checking the warrant etc, no problems.
Me, Why have you followed me and whats this about.
Him. just a ramdon check, if we dont pull people over we dont write many tickets.!!
Me, what the fuck, if i called you people about someone burgling my property you would,nt bother turning up !
Him, dont swear at me Sir.
Him, Do you have your driving licence?
    Me gives it to him.
Him. Where do you live what number is this house.
Me. I live here, obviously, the numbers on the letter box, cant you read? But i asnwer the question anyway.
    He writes it down.
Me. Give me my licence back.
Him. Im going to do a check and he wanders back to his car. he's not ging to find anything, just wasting my time.
Me. please yourself, im off to bed, i close the auto door and leave him in the drive outside the gate. Go inside and leave the front door open.
Him. About five minutes later he calls from the other side of the gate, (it's an open wrought iron big gaps in it easily seen through and easily reaced through)
He holds out my licence, i go to retreive it by reching though the gate and he holds onto it so hard my fingers slip off it. I try again, and he does it again. Third time he lets it go, i just put it back in my wallet.
Him. Trying to assert some sort of authority and power says, Dont Snatch.( i hadn't)
Me, (That's done it, im mad now so says to him). You lot, if i called you for a burglary, you wouldnt even turn up, a lot of you are as bad if not worse than the criminals your supposed to be catching. And, what are you doing following men home in the middle of the night? Are you a homo or something? Get off my property, piss orrrf, i going to sleep.
He stood there like a stunned mullet for a minute after i'd gone inside and then went away.
I honestly dont know what made me so mad, im normally quite a peacful non controntaional sort. I think it was the infringment on my personal space and him walking round my garage. Oh well.
Friends now tell me i'm a "marked man". I wonder !!!
Is it just me, or is being in the police just a a "revenue" gathering job these days that it's become their main focus.
    They want repect. Pah.
Anyone else have an experience similar?

This situation was covered in a thread not toooo long ago iirc, can't for the life of me find it though.
I think the gist of it was that they couldn't come onto your property uninvited unless you were under suspicion of doing some illegal shit. They can't just waltz onto your property under the banner of 'random checks'

Lay a complaint, the guy hasn't followed procedure, and he was a prick to boot.

The bit that caught my attention most in that story was the grabbing the license back. You either had way to much KY jelly on your hands or he was almost trying to bait you, or I guess act tough and be the big man. I'll stick to my first theory

Definitely not allowed to come on to your property uninvited unless he has witnessed you doing something illegal.

Yes, that's what i thought too but wasnt sure of my ground. When i asked him why he's followed me all he said was. If we didnt pull people over we woud'nt write many tickets.
I should have got his number, but didn't think of it at the time.

He was trying to bait me, and act the big man. That's why i asked him why he was following men home in their cars, and was he a homo.

Mate, at least you didn't get a bullshit ticket for no reflector or incorrectly displayed rego+ whole miriad of other things.

Call me an idiot but I still don't underestand exactly what constitutes 'fresh persuit'?

So in the OP's case, is that considered fresh persuit???

From my understanding of the thread I started about "fresh pursuit" he was 'actively following' Mr Sauce Pants but (and it's a big butt) I thought they could only come onto your property if they had a genuine cause to suspect something illegal. In this instance, if the conversation and action proceeded as recalled here, then it didn't sound justifiable and the officer was being an @rsehole.

Yeah, if he'd put his flashing lights on intended for the OP he has the right to follow anywhere. Sounds a bit officious to me, too, but as has been said, you have every right to lay a complaint. It may well be worth popping into your local station anyway and have a chat about it. As long as you're calm and reasonable you should get a hearing ear.

Yeah I know, I was taking the piss. He seems to have acted like a dick which is a shame, but yet, it doesn't really surprise me.

Technically, he was in pursuit - the disco lights were going.

In which case he is allowed to follow you. The fact that you didn't stop would (to me) indicate that you were trying to hide something (no WOF, etc)

I wonder what the standard is for "failing to stop". Must have been more than you did....
