So I went to melborne for the Tool concert for three days. I left my gear (helmet, pants, jacket, and gloves) at the Auckland airports i-site luggage storage. I got back today to find they have lost it all!!! they are giving me $1200 to get some new gear tomorrow but I need to find a good place to get some from thats close to the airport. If anyone can give some advice on what to get and where to get would be very helpful.
cheers
Daniel.

Get online and shop till you drop. Courier fee wont be that expensive. You may even be lucky enough to score a friendly KBr that can do a free delivery. That sucks

I have to ride to napier tomorrow also, I hope my bikes still there

Get them to pay for a cab to a shop that sells gear, buy the gear, get them to set you on your way...

I like Revit gear, for which Motomail on College Hill in Ponsonby are very good. They have loads of gear and a good selection of helmets (sizes may be limited), as well as decent coffee!
If you can shop on the North Shore, there's a high density of shops along Barry's Point Road - Cycletreads, Holeshot and Cyclespot. If you are a member of MAG-NZ, you can score 10% off in Cyclespot if I recall correctly (the latter are online as Depot4 (http://www.depot4motorcycles.co.nz/index.php?route=common/home)),. Between the three of them there is a hell of a lot of gear in stock within 100 metres so you have a really good shout at getting outfitted in one session.
If you're staying down South or out West, someone else will need to chip in.
Hope that helps!

Good luck getting that $1200..
If you manage to get $$$$ there is a Bus that runs from the Auckland Airport into Auckland CBD 24/7 $25return..Across the road from where the Airport bus drops you off ( Britomart) there is another bus that travels up the Northern bus lane $3.80 oneway.. Get that bus and get off the 1st stop very close to Barrys point rd and walk to CYCLE TREADS..
Or try riding your bike with no Lid to Treads...

$1200 - That would get me a helmet and some visor cleaner. Miserable bastards.

I really don't believe your gear was lost.
Try Trademe to see if the theifs want to sell it back to you.
Failing that, +1 for Motomail.

so do ya recon $1200 wont cover it all? i got my gear with my bike 11 years ago so i'm a little out of touch with the pricing. i just rattled off a number and they said no worries. they do have cameras there but they said they would just give me the money. i'll see what happens in the morning, but i am due for a gear upgrade. thanks for the offer steeve but i'll make them pay for the cab to get me round and if it costs any more for the gear i'll be getting more. i could also make them pay me a days lost wages too. really shitty way to end an awesome trip.

$1200 will buy you everything, but I have no idea what the type of stuff was that you bought 11 years ago. Some people will spend 1k alone on a helmet, it's all relative to what you had before hand.

FWIW got one of these cycle jackets (http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/products/440-jackets_textile_mens/4520-axo_tt_zero_jacket.aspx) from Cycle treads. Great jacket couldn't be happier with it.

If you really want to get stuff in Auckland then +1 Barry's Point road, especially if can't get around easily.
Cyclespot have discounted Shoei's (XR1000, X-11) if that's your thing.
Cycletreads have a whole bunch of stuff upstairs.
Holeshot are next door have more stuff.
If you could get 'round I'd say check out Red Baron and Motomail as well
I reckon your best bang for buck would be getting a helmet in Aucks (or a loner) and pulling in to see Lifestyle Imports (Pukekawa) or Quasimoto (Hamilton) on the way home.

helmet - $600
pants - $600
jacket - $600
gloves - $200
If they are going to just give you money at least replace the gear with quality.
$1200 won't get you much.

I think the closest bike store to the Airport I know of is Haldanes in Penrose.
You could probably get a bus to Onehunga and then anotyher one from there up Great South Road.
Wouldn't know for sure - last time I was on a bus in NZ was.......ummmm.........1996
When I got my license I dropped in there and said I had $800 to spend and needed everything.
That got me Helmet, Gloves, Jacket, Pants and Boots.
I have since Replaced the Helmet (because I just wanted a new one), replaced the gloves (to get some ones with SPS sliders in the palms), replaced the jacket (because it started leaking), given away the pants (because they leaked from day 1) and replaced the boots (because they started leaking).

if ya look at my profile pic you'll see the gear i used to have. was nothing special but it lasted 11 years with no problems. i'm too much of a rough bugger to spend even 600 on a lid so i'll get someting cheap. theres not much to protect up there anyway. i think i'll go to barrys point rd and see what i get. thanks again for everones input, i'll fill ya all in when i get home.

You can tell them they're lucky. If they lost the wrong set of my gear, they wouldn't get change from $4k or possibly more.
Just ask if you need any more help. As mentioned, Barrys Point Rd has one of the highest concentrations of shops, and Cycletreads has a great range.

They are not the same. Depot4 are at 63 Barrys Point Road, according to their website, and that is certainly NOT Cycletreads.

You forgot boots. I have great road riding waterproof boots and they were $300 from Motomail.
Also from Motomail; leather revit trou- $300, Shoei helmet $600, Revit gloves (middle of the range) $100 and I reckon you can get a good jacket for $400.
So yeah, I reckon only $1200 is not gonna fit you out completely.
And it some brands charge different rates depending whether its leather or kordura.

So, how was the concert?
That's crap that they lost your gear though. How did it happen? Surely they put it in a locker or something and give you a ticket with a number on it so only you can retrieve it. I reckon since they wont bother reviewing the video that one of the people looking after it pinched it for themselves.

Sh!t there must be a lot of Rossi's around here, my gear which I have had for 2+ years (though it is getting pretty worn now) cost me $500 all up from WMC - boots, gloves, pants, jacket, helmet. Admittedly it leaks pretty bad in heavy rain and most of the zips are now broken but generally it still does the job just fine. At one stage I had a more expensive helmet as I had lost my current one and I found the more expensive one was crap because it fogged up all the time, maybe slightly better if I hit my head but exponentially increase the chances of doing so if I can't see where I'm going.

Where does this cock get off calling other people cocks when he could probably qualify as the Galactic Cock in any given cock contest except a cock measuring contest?

Well I went to the airport, met a guy who was most helpful and he drove me into cycletreads.
I got:
$699 down to $479 - Shark Dual Touch Helmet (http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/products/202-full_face/2288-shark_rsi_helmet.aspx#)
$749 down to $599 - IXON Revolution Fever Jacket (http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/products/440-jackets_textile_mens/3542-ixon_revolution_fever_textile_.aspx#)
$299 down to $275 - IXON Climber Pants (http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/products/296-pants_textile_men/2081-ixon_climber_mens_textile_pant.aspx)
$129 Orina Race Kangaroo Gloves (http://orina.de/res/images/arts/s2255.jpg)
For a total cost of $1200 :woohoo:
Thanks again for all your input and especially thanks to the guys at Cycletreads for an awesome deal.
Also thanks to i-site information for replacing my gear with no hassle at all
When I dropped my old gear off I had it in a greenwaste rubbish bag. I paid $30 and the guy gave me a ticket with a number on, and then put a large label around the top of it. He didn't however put it in the store room right away, and at some point the cleaners came in and took it away to where it now sits at the dump
The concert was awesome!!!! Best I've seen ever! and I've been to six big day outs, seen Sepultura, Iron maiden and Roger Waters at their own concerts plus a few local N.Z bands. But Tool are my favorites so I'm a little biased.
All in all it was an excellent outcome

Sounds like you lucked out to be honest! Especially considering your gear was that old, you now have all new gear, and not an insurance claim in sight! :woohoo:

One helmet and a coupla tee shirts notwithstanding, it's got nothing much to do with Rossi.
A lot of my trips have happened to be accompanied by precipitation, sometimes to quite an extreme degree. I got pissed off getting wet. My original kit wasn't cheap, (Spidi), but it leaked so I went top shelf. It is expensive but it keeps me dry.
And I'm pleased the OP had a happy ending to his tale

Definitely the second choice in my book, I was there all of half an hour and I was out the door smiling. Also a full set of gear (minus boots) and a cash sale usually helps in situations like that.
