they are good buying now, without a doubt.
IMHO settle for nothing less than an S4. there was a very nice one in senna colours @ reasonable numbers for sale in the 'rapa recently, might be worth chasing up.
(just had a look but couldn't find it)
this is VG value for money though with SFA k's on it, if you are italian inclined. (and don't mind red)

WTF does
.Equally at home 1 up on your favorite piece of road to sample the delights of Ducati handling, brembo gold line brakes, showa forks, marchesini mags or tourer, heaps of torque from big 'v'twin, more comfortable riding position than sports bike.
mean?
Shouldn't there be something else to balance out that equally at home bit?

Hey Mom just thinking about this -"its too tall for me" thing.
One model buel is too tall
WHY is it too tall?
By that what I mean is what is the actual difference between the two bikes that makes the seat height wrong on one.
I dunno enough about Buells to comment but if its something easy like the seat is a different shape or the dogbones are different then maybee its really easy to adjust.
Maybee its worth asking around.

Frosty the scg Buell has shorter front forks and rear shock along with a lower profile seat. Any XB Buell can be turned into a SCG of sorts..... if the parts can be found..

Not one model Buell. All Buells except an XBScg (or the XB9SL). Given my reputation as a grumpy arsehole I'll continue. I think lowering bikes is the biggest crock of bullshit ever. The "lowered" bikes I've ridden have steered like a shopping trolley and they end up with less ground clearance than the average 250cc cruiser. The violent weight transfer under heavy braking has to be experienced to be believed. Perhaps this is a symptom of enthusiastic amateurs lowering bikes and a properly setup one is different. I've yet to bump into one.
One difference between a stock XB and the XBScg is the seat shape. I'm almost certain that the forks, and rear suspension are also different to a stock XBS. The Scg still a pleasure to ride, not a dangerously compromised disaster waiting to happen and that's because of the significant effort that has gone into maintaining the dynamics and ground clearance of the stock XBS range.

I've just been looking at the Buell forum and it looks like Scg parts are turning into rocking horse poo. There was one interesting thread about bunging Scg suspension parts on a Uly.
You can tell the difference visually by the colour on the springs too apparently. Still trying to find the colour codes.

Fully agree, any lowering solution worth less than a grand, is probably worthless. Rear link geometry is too finely tuned for just adding longer dogbones.
Maybe some go-go gadget boots to deploy when stopped :devil2: or some fold down trainer wheels :dodge:

No dog bones, it's a linkless system. Brief bit of research seems to show a shorter shock, same forks mounted higher in a different lower trippleclamp, different seat.
The only thing not quickly and reasonably cheaply solved is the lower trippleclamp. I can't find how much higher that allows the forks to be lifted but I've heard you can drop one 2" without the clamp, (shock, seat). Buell say the SCG is 2 1/2" lower than the S.

The Buell scg is factory intended to be small. It was designed that way. I also am not a big fan of "lowering" bikes for lowering sake. I also worry about fork travel, lack of suspension travel and general all round compromised suspension. I dont ride hard, but that makes no difference to me, I want a bike that wont let me down if I am in a place I need to rely on how my bike handles to get out of trouble. I would also like to know that I can push it my styles and have it forgive any mistake I might make.
Meh, I would need to be VERY convinced an XB12 can be lowered sucessfully to fit me and my short arse, without compromsing handling. They are a bit peppy, and from all accounts go like stink. Imagine riding one that does not handle as expected and the kind of trouble you could find yourself in if you relied on compromised suspension.
This does not just apply to the XB though, any bike, my thoughts are the same.
No pimply faced teen will ever convince me that a bike can be lowered to fit me without compromising the handling, unless he/she can provide evidence disproving my natural self preservation barrier.

But I was simply pointing out what the factory had done to make the SCG from an XB12S. Shock, seat and trippleclamp.
They're seriously short, I suspect that's why the SCG works OK, the changes don't mess up the geometry as they would on a "normal" machine.

Remove air from wheels simple eh.
Seat bracket with normal seat height maybe has 2 positions, normal factory setting say 785mm,remove seat clamp blocks under the seat, turn upside down, and that lowers height, confusing wording for sure, the bandit has lower position if required from standard height.

I've yet to bump into one..
Hey Jim I'm not suggesting a boogie job in any way shape or form
WITHOUT knowing what Buell did out of the factory to make the low bike what it is my thinking was maybee retrofit parts could be used to create in essence a genuine/factory lowered bike.I kinda wondered given the type of subframe they have if it was a case of different mounting heights for the subframe dropped it down a tadd

Again no way I'd suggest that you should do some boogie job on any bike. The question I was asking is what did the factory do to convert a normal height bike to the lower version. It would be a crying shame if in fact all you need to comfortably ride a "tall" bike is slightly higher bars and slightly lower seat and these are available accessories.

We are going bike shopping Friday, at least then I will know which one fits.
With any luck there will be a trip south soon...
And no not to buy a Buell :weep:

Yes please lovey man, all easy shit for you. Just a bit needs to be lifted out of the old box and saved to the external drive thingybob. Then a bit of software needs to be installed on the new lappy and the data files recollected as they should be. I need the 2 screen thing working, it wont listen to me when I tell it to extend  We dont have email set up, we were using firefox and I have saved all my contacts as a csv, I need a new one set up, and my contacts imported again. Can I have my email messages transfered to use? Blah, blah...
And for your information I am going to make a decision tomorrow. If my feet reach the ground it is mine. Oh to make things so simple :sunny:
Its allright for you tallish blokes :batting eye lashes smiley:

Saturday or Sunday better?
Don't know about being taller making it easier. My bike has a seat height of 895mm or 915mm, and can go even higher when I set it for more weight on the rear.

Yeah hints aplenty. I am going to try sit on an ER6n, there are a coupld of them around that look ok. I am accepting of them anyways...
Then there is the Suzuki 650 bandit. That one holds a bit more hope in my mind. I have found one I want to buy if it fits...
Fingers crossed my feet reach the ground.
Oh, it also involves a road trip :woohoo:
I gave up on the buell owning wankers :o
I have been emailing a bloke in HB, when I suggested I arrange someone to come and have a look for me he went silent! 3 days and nothing back. Hmmmmmmmm...
Buell owners suck

If she fits a 650 Bandit or ER6N, a Wee Strom would not be a problem.

My wife is 5ft1 and has always had trouble with the feet touching the ground. We got her a Triumph Speed 4 and fitted a soupy performance lowering link from the USA.You will never get her of that bike again. With a dry weight of 173 kg its a breeze for her to ride.
