View Full Version : JR50 not running right

I went to take my son for a spin on his 50 yesterday and it went like shit. It would only run with the choke on and only on full throttle.
I got it second hand and it had sat in a garage for 15 years, so maybe a piston? thought you'd never do one in one of those... Jets are all clear, but I'll take the carb to work to clear it with the air compressor to be sure.
Any other thoughts?

Iv seen a JR50 piston and bore that was scored to buggery, had the cylinder bored out .5mm, put an oversize piston in, including gaskets was ~$230.
Otherwise it sounds like blocked jets somewhere. Not getting fuel so it needs the choke on all the time to richen what is getting through, and WOT is basically directly out of the float bowl so hard to block that.

only full throttle could be only on the main jet, pilot blocked,
also only with choke usually means lean but you probably figured that:yes:
i have seen them run in all sort of condition, got to be quite major not to run, they even run with f all compression and bags of piston slap:shit:

i would clean out the carb first and check the air filter is ok,
if this does not help, then take of barrell off to have a look,
