Hey Guys.

I'm a newbie biker. I bought my riding gear brand new back in December. The brand is Macna. The jacket model is a "Meteor" that already seems to be falling apart on me.

The stitching on the arm is at the beginning of unravelling. The velcro at the neck is starting to come off. The popper button at the bottom of the jacket has snapped off. The zipper handle on the pants cuff has snapped off. . . . .

Has anyone else had similar problems with Macna gear. I'm gonna take it back to the retailer, of course, but I'd just like to hear your comments on this.

Cheers all.

Please note. I'm not treating the gear in a rough manner because this kind of stuff costs an arm and a leg. When the zipper handle snapped off, it wasn't stuck or anything. . . .

Never heard of the brand. What'd you pay?

Well, it was a special going on at Motorad in Wellington. The whole thing, Sidi boots, pants, jacket, Macna gloves, HJC helmet cost $1000.

Boots, helmet and gloves are fine. Just the jacket and pants are getting to be a worry.

I have macna gear and the only problem i have had was i zip on the inside broke off while i was doing it up. I was also not being rough with my jacket. I would take it back to the dealer you got it off as it will still be under warranty.

Macna gear generally is very good. I seldom get it to repair.
If you can get over the hill to the Avalon Park duckpond to the Tuesday night ride, I can have a look at it and give you an opinion. The things you describe are actually very minor and it'd be worth me checking it out before you try and take it back.
Tuesday nights from 5.30. We leave at 6.30. Look forward to seeing you. I'm easy to pick, I organise it and am generally the only woman there. I'll be the one on the massive yellow hyper scoot.

Macna has a one year warranty, according to Macna. Take it back.
My Macna Summit jacket was around $1k, and one of the seams (not a critical one) came undone (after the warranty was up). The waterproof liner is starting to come apart at the seam seals, and I'm currently negotiating with them to see how I can get it fixed or replaced, via a friend of mine in the Netherlands (which I'm visiting next month).
I like the features of my Macna jacket, but I don't think I'd buy another one.

@Ratti - Advice on the gear AND a plug for the ride. Unfortunately I have a full diary on Tuesday nights as I teach martial arts. But I would very much like to go on a group ride at some point. At the moment, all I use my bike for is commuting to work. Thanks for the offer of looking over my gear though.
@vifferman - I'll take the gear back and have a chat with the retailer about my concerns. Thanks for that.
