Got a letter from Suzuki NZ yesterday. Guts of which is...
"Suzuki Japan have advised us of the possibility due to insufficient adhesion with the rectifier, heat generated by the inner power module is unable to dissipate through the outer case cooling fins. This condition may cause abnormal heat within the rectifier/regulator, which can result in insufficient charging current to the battery. This will result in reduced battery voltage leading to engine stalling and/or a no start condition" (Interesting sentence structure at the start there...)
Can't say I have had a problem but I daresay I will have it fixed courtesy of Suzuki...
Anyone else similarly notified?

Nah - I just stuck new tyres on the 6 so I have to use at least half of 'em up before I surrender to that siren of a semfiddy...
Besides, "she who must be obeyed" has forbidden me to spend any of the money I will nett from my house swap on motorbikes...the cow

It goes a little something like this.....
"Dear valued customer,
Suzuki New Zealand is conducting a service campaign on selected motorcycle models where the rectifier/regulator needs to be replaced.
Suzuki Japan have advised us of the possiblity due to insufficient adhesion with the rectifier, heat generated by the inner power module is unable to dissipate through the outer case cooling fins. This condition may cause abnormal heat within the rectifier/regulator, which can result in insufficient charging current to the battery. This will result in reduced battery voltage leading to engine stalling and/or a no start condition."
It goes on to to say that this procedure will be performed at no cost for parts and labour.

I've got a pair of Bandits .. so it is wider than that - I haven't checked which Bike the VIN number is, but I suspect it's the '09 1250 ...
Suzuki probably got a bad batch of retctifiers which are common on several models ..

and mines an 09 Gladius. so it's possible that the problem has been solved with the newer bikes. Yeah, they dont give out much info about who has been affected. If it pertains to you then you will be sent a letter. I guess they dont want to cause any kind of irrational panic.

The old man got one for his GSXF. It's funny, I know the Trumpy 675's have issues with them as well. I know one guys burnt up. But no recall from Triumph. They must think because we own Trumpy's we'll be able to fix it with a screw driver.
When we wife owned the GSXF she had issues with the battery going dead after leaving the park lights on for only a couple hours. We reckon this could have something to do with it.

Odd that they are doing bikes several years old - I would have thought if it was going to be a problem it would have happened over 2 - 3 years back.
Thumbs up to Suzuki though.

I found this:
If you’ve bought a Suzuki motorcycle in the past few years, you might want to check out the list for the Japanese company’s latest motorcycle recall. Affecting 73,426 motorcycles from various product lines and model years (2008-2010), Suzuki has discovered a faulty electrical rectifier/regulator in its design that needs replacing.
According to the recall, rectifiers/regulators on bikes built between July 2007 and September 2009 have an inadequate amount of adhesion between the power module and the case, which results in the unit not sufficiently being cooled by its heat sink (affected Suzuki part numbers are: 32800-41F11, 32800-15H10, 32800-05H11, 32800-41G10, 32800-15H00, 32800-18H00, 32800-05G10, 32800-10G10, 32800-05H20, OR 32800-06G01). As a result the unit’s circuit board could warp, and become dislodged from its casing.
Should the rectifier/regulator start malfunctioning because of this condition, the motorcycle would improperly charge its electrical system, likely draining the battery, and possibly causing the motorcycle to stall. Suzuki will notify owners affected by the issue, and a Suzuki distributor will replace the affected part for free. The recall is expected to take place March 2, 2011, the affected models are listed below. Concerned Suzuki owners can contact Suzuki 1-714-996-7040, and as always the NHTSA is available at 1-888-327-4236 or at the safercar.gov website.

When I spoke to Boyds yesterday they told me they had swapped out quite a few but that none of them had caused or looked like causing any problems.
In this litigious age I daresay Suzuki is erring on the side of caution...
