admin dont delete or merge this. it will get lost in other gigantic thread.

have just been in an saw dave. was doped up, but recognised me.

i am not a medical practioner so will not try an give an evaluation of his condition.

i have printed off the other huge thread with well wishes for his parents, up to about page 16 if there was one.

daves parents andre (sp?) an sheila (sp?) are relatively happy for people to coem in an see dave, but remember he is in ICU, only two people allowed in to see him at once, an naturally his parents are at top of the list.

no visiting untill afgter 10, or 10.30 in monrning an smoething like after 7 7.30 at night.

if anyone wants to know what his parents have told me about his condition, PM me but take it with a grain or two of salt, as stated i aint an expert

Cheers Mikey.

Hey everyone I'd just like us all to be aware how exhausting this is for his Mum and Dad (and Dave himself onviuosly), as much as we love & care for Dave and want to rush in and see him 20 bikers turning up at 7 tonight may not be so good.

Sorry if this sounds like a downer and I'm sure you're all thoughtful types but I just wanted to say it anyway.

Right, I have comfirmation from Bugjuice that he has the Taupo Vid that Dave wanted to see.
Is there someone in Welly that he can send it too, that is willing to do whatever it takes to see that Dave can view it when he's ready?
Please let us know, and PM Bugjuice to organize it.
Cheers.

Edit: P.S. All sorted now thanks.

I'm with CSL here, Dave's suffered serious injuries on top of major surgery over the last 24 hours so lets leave out the visits for another day or two.

I know from the time I spent in ICU (3 days) that I couldn't remember anyone visiting me, shock, drugs etc. So even if you do go, he probably wont remember it. I do however remember once I was out of ICU that visits were the best part, it gets awfully lonely in there (I had my own room) and messes with your brain. It was tough at the end of the day once everyone had gone home, being there messed up with thoughts running through your mind, but what keeps you going is the thought of getting out again, and more importantly the smiling faces of friends and family coming to visit.

Give him time guys, then give him company. Also, someone should organise a visitors book to sign, put comments in etc. My brother got one for me, and during the quieter times it was great to read everything everyone had to say.

White Trash and I popped in to see Dave yesterday afternoon. Had a good chat with his parents. They are exhausted, but so stoked that people are so keen to see Dave. They have told staff to allow us to see him - just bear in mind that you may have to wait around a bit if they are doing any procedures or if he has any other visitors. Also be aware that there are other patients in close vicinity, who are highly visible - so if you are easily disturbed it may be best to wait until Dave is out of ICU before you visit.

Dave was sound asleep when Jimmy and I were there, but it was good just to see him and be reassured that he's still with us. He's got a long road to recovery ahead of him - but I'm sure that knowing we are all there for him will help to speed him along.

He was sleeping when myself and Skunk Control got there so we didn't go in to see him. Talked with his parents (cool people) and Velox and Bad Lieutenant.

Andre asked us to tell NC that and laptop was very much appreciated. And the KB support uplifting.

Dave was moved, while we were there, to orthopaedics.

Thanks for this, I've been away for a long w/end though a couple of people had txted me about Dave's accident.

We'll go and see him later this week or even next week - sounds like he may be in hospital for a while.

I'm planning to go there around 11am. I finish helping at school at 10:30 in Lower Hutt so I'll leave directly from there.

If anyone wants a ride in/out I don't mind picking you up on the way. I need to be back in the Hutt by 12:30.

Thanks also to the 2 PM's, email and phone call to let me know Dave's surname.

His Dad was just telling us about the delayed concussion, and how he thought he had been in hospital for months. Dave was telling us how annoyed he was that it had only been 3 days. He was heaps perkier today and very happy that he had a “happy button” (morphine pump).
I asked him to share, but he wasn’t cool with that Hehehe.

Andre (his Dad) was saying that he has some more surgery tomorrow, so this will be a BIG day for him and his family.

Oh yeah apparently he's no longer "high care" any longer but he may be for just tomorrow after the surgery, and (from what Andre said) room 1 is his permenant possie for the time being.

Saw Dave late this avo. He is still in a lot of pain of course and was off to have more x rays as I left. Told him about the thread with everyones good wishes on it and he said he was looking forward to reading it. Speaking to his dad brought hope to me how critical his situation has been, and he still has a long way to go.
Keep the prayers, positive energies, happy thoughts etc coming folks, they are helping, but he will need them for some time yet.

Do you think it advisable for me to go down tomorrow (wednesday) ??

I don't mind if I don't see him, just to say hi to his parent and leave a card would be cool.

Dave was in surgrey when I went up at around 5:00pm. That's twice I haven't been able to see him. Never mind. I'll try again.

I spoke to Andre and Sheila and they were tired looking but still in as good spirits as you could expect. They were hoping he would come back to Floor E as that would be the best news.

Check where he is before visiting.

Dave just came back from surgery about 7:15pm. I had been chatting with Andre and Sheila for about an hour or so. Bung Bung and Mrs B arrived too while I was there. Dave was conscious and quite chipper for somebody who had spent the last few hours in surgery. His op this afternoon was to pin his humerus, which had been broken in three places (I think that's what Sheila said) and to put a plate in his shoulder. I understood that they were going to do something with his gashed leg at the same time.

Slow and hopefully steady progress being made. His folks are holding up OK but it must be tremendously stressful for them. Typical hospital -- nobody knows anything. Worse in Dave's case because there is a whole bunch of specialists doing different things but nobody with an overall picture.

He's back in Room 1 on level E above the main hospital entrance.

I went in around 11. Saw Velox's bike outside so knew I was in good company :)

At that stage Dave's surgery was meant to be a bit earlier in the afternoon but they delayed it to bump someone in front of him. I thought his parents were handling things very well.

Went in at 1pm today (30th) but he had just been moved back to ICU and they told me NO VISITORS. So suggest anyone checks before going in. What a rabbit warren of a complex. Need satelite positioning gadgets to get out of the place.
Hope all is on the improve for Dave and this move is just a precaution following all the surgery he's had to go through.

copy of my post on other stoney thread:

Just caught up with THE man and his wonderful parents. He'll likely be in ICU until next week - maybe Monday?, but with all things considered he's doin okay. I kept the visit short - they don't put ya in ICU cos you're feelin a box of fluffies. But a smile or two were seen, so he's still with us!!

Andre, his father, advises that I was visitor number 45 - and that's only counting the ones who've been while he's been around. So that speaks volumes for the high regard Dave is held in by everyone.

I'll drop by and see him next week sometime, don't want to overload him at this sensitive time.

Thanks to those who let me know his surname so I could locate him!

Just some advice guys (I know someone has said it before but I'll repeat it):

Don't tire Dave out with too many visits early on in his stay in Hospital. He's going to need those visits much more later on when he is getting sick of being it there.

Serious injuries take a long time to heal well enough for a patient to leave Hospital.

My ex-wife (was married to her at the time) was in Hospital for over 6weeks after a bad horse accident that broke her pelvis in two places and tail bone in three (we won't go into the other injuries). The first week or two she found it very tireing trying to stay positive for all her visiters (major injuries take a lot of energy out of you). Later as the weeks went by less visiters would come to see her and she really needed them there then as she was bored (had more energy then and nothing to do with it), getting really sick of being in the Hospital and missing the contact from friends in the "Real World".

As an ex-RN I have seen this time and time again with patients, so please pace yourselves with the visits now and remember to make the effort later as he is getting better, OK.

PS: you are all doing blood good work and I'm proud of you all:clap: :not: Don't stop visiting Dave, just pace yourselves:cool:

Yeh, what RIB said. I remember when I was in hospital, it was for less than a week, but it was interminably boring, and the visits were the only things to break the monotony.

You're not kidding Mikey. I popped in to see Dave today and he had some very tidy young things looking after him. Pity all he was getting out of them was poking and prodding, and the occasional needle.

Good to see that despite being sore as hell he's still got his sense of humour, although I guess trying to make him laugh was not exactly a good idea.

Anyway, although he's pretty banged up it was nice to visit and talk to his folks. Having met them now I can see why Dave turned out the way he has.
