I know it is early, but my Easter weekend break starts when the sun rises in the morning. I am very excited  This is my first weekend away on my lovely new bike. I already have two thousand odd, "get used to her" k's on the metre, some fooling around, and most commuting to my fantastic job (no sarcasm either).
Millie is gassed up, the trip metre is set to zero. The cat is in care. I have a LARGE Ventura pack to load up with essentials, I bought my own pack, that way I can find room for the lippy AND the hairdrier :gob:
I can't wait!

What a fantastic trip! One that I most definately will be repeating again soon.
Left home about 8:30am Thursday and had possibly the most effortless, traffic-less trip through the shitty I have ever had. No traffic to speak of at all. Stopped at Mercer for breakfast.
I learned there that having a cup of coffee can become one of the funniest things you can do  When the really friggen hot coffee made contact with my lip I jumped, squeezing the paper cup at the same time, causing a veritable Ruapehu erruption of coffee up my nose :shit: Not sure if the tears were from laughing or scalding the lining of my nostrills really. Made a hell of a mess on the table I know that.
Having regathered ourselves, we headed out south to Rangiruri, and turned off to enjoy the back roads down the country. We stopped in Piopio for lunch. The left hand mirror on Mille was loose and kept turning in so I went to King Country Honda to see if the mechanics might have a socket to tighten it. I had asked the Sulco Tool Man at Otorohanga if he had one when we had a Pitt Stop for Maha ( I swear that mans bladder only holds a teaspoon of piss at a time  ) and he had nothing.
After a few "sweet's" and "true's" the very lovely man there actually turned down one of his sockets so it fit in the mirror stem and tightened the nut for me! What a top bloke. Big Rpas for them from me. The toasted sandwhich we had from accross the road was very yummy too

We continued down through the Awakino Gorge. That has to be the most orgasmic road I have ever ridden on :o The fun I was having made me laugh out loud many times. I found myself going around one long, continuous, sweeping right hander, under the paint and rolling on more and more throttle, going WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
The rolling twisties were just the bomb for this girl  Millie appears to love corners, and most loves the ones that are marked 35/45 kph. We were headign to Pussy's house for the night but formulated a plan to stop in and hug Martybabe on the way. After over shooting his turnoff, we turned back and arrived at chez MB in grand styles. Just as well really, cos the way I left was not so grand :pinch:
This provided us with the first of many "yeah right" moments of the weekend.

I forgot to mention Mt Messanger. Now that has some cool corners  They have laid ashphalt on the southern side and thqat makes for some very nice smooth riding. There were a few road works to be negotiated up there - slips beign sorted etc, but not a bad bit of road all the same.

Had a very lovely time with MB and The Bride, so much so that plans were kind of put aside (sorry darling man) and I decided I would rather come back and stay a night with MB than in a motel in Taumaranui. The weather forcast was shite for the day we intended to ride the Forgotten World Highway, and continued to be shite until the day we planned to ride it (yesterday) and the weather was perfect :pinch: Still, I dont guess it will be going anywhere in the meantime, and it gives us an excuse to come back down there
It was coming on dusk when we ledt Martybabbes house. I got to the end of his driveway and started my turn out thinking "this is a bit tight, hope I dont end up in that drain over there"
By the time that thought had crossed my mind I was riding along the very edge of the unsealed shoulder, on the other side of the road, with the rear wheel skipping along the very edge of the drain :shit: FFS! ANNE!!!!
I have to say here that years of pootling around off road, really helps in these situations. I was sure I was going to ground, I could feel the rear slipping and the reflexes were screaming at me to brake and STOP!!!! The calm, adrenaline fuelled brain said, open the throttle Anne, look where you need to be and ride it out. I did!
Once I re-gained the tarmac I started laughing big time. How close I came to throwing myself and Millie on the road
BIG lesson learned. After spending a day on the road, then spending a couple of hours relaxing and talking shite with a friend, do NOT, I repeat NOT look where you DONT WANT TO GO! You will go there. It also highlighted just how tired I was.
We pootled into NP and found our way to Pussy's abode.

Safely settled at Pussy and Gassit Girls house felt so wonderful.
A big day, coupled with a lovely feed and some good company, made for the completion of a fantastic first day of our trip. I slept like a log, and was woken up, with a cup of coffee in bed and being told how beautiful the weather was. I was shown a picture of the mountain taken out Pussy's kitchen window as evidence.

I just know I am leaving out stuff, but bear with me, I can always fill you in later.
We spent Good Friday ticky touring around the greater Taranaki area, abley assisted by the lovely MB. We left Pussy's place (he was heading down to the air show in Blenheim) and headed north to visit with Patrick. Found him and his wonderful family, after a bit of a detour  even though it is explained to you, apparently some of us  dont listen, and in this instance it was not me :sunny:
Martybabe met us there and eventually we got back on the road. That Patrick bloke, just talks, and talks and talks  :innocent:
We went to Stratford and stopped for a bit of a feed (pie and a chicken breast and a V) I do have to at this point make a comment on the dress styles of the local population in these parts. What the hell drugs are they taking when they get dressed in the morning that makes them think "Shit, I look GREAT in this outfit" For decency sake I refrained from taking pics :pinch:
From there, it was a cruise around the mountain. I assume it was the mountain, MB could have been a big tease, remind me about Pukekco Cottage a bit later, all I know is I saw no mountain, and there are a hell of a lot of one lane bridges, and yumpties (Whoop whoops???) out there. Also quite a lot of wind. MB took us to Pukekura Park too, that is a place we need to re-visit..
What is with the order tht pics upload???
Pic 3 clearly shows the mountain beautifully framed by the lake and trees...

Great reading Mom. Did you give Pussy a great big butt squeeze for me?
Mille sounds cheaky and fun loving and I like what I hear. Fab weekend out on the roads, and I can't help but sit here in envy as I was planning to do that myself this weekend. Longest I have ever not ridden since I started. POO!!!!!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend you two. I'll come visit up in Auckland later this year is I get my R6 back, and show off my new personalised plate that I'm so in love with.
xxx Shiny side up you crazy kids

Should've headed up Pembroke Rd to end of road, usually see the hill at 800mts lol.

North we go, over the same roads we have already travelled :woohoo: I get to do Awakino Gorge again :sunny: Mt Messenger is better (for me) northways. Raglan is our destination. We took a bit of a detour into Waitomo to visit wht hotel there to find some ghosts.
We did not see any, but found 3 young local lads that had been booted out of the pub down the road, and come up to the hotel to continue drinking. Funny as! Apparently they had been boozing since 7am, this was about 1pm. I stood in preference to being sat upon by the fella next to me, Maha was not so lucky, he got a bit up close and personal with one of them when they were also booted out of the hotel :killingme

Raglan is our destination. I have some romantic teenaged perspective on the place. First time I nearly drowned in surf  I got rescued  The yummy guard did not give me mouth to mouth :crybaby: Only time I have attempted to stand on a board, I can still feel the lump where the fucker got me
Imagine my total surprise, finding the seething holiday weekend mess Raglan turns out to be :shit:
To improve things we have booked in at the Pub where there is a live band playing :woohoo:
Had a lovely meal there, went for walks, watched the sun set  Turned in at bed time and waited for the rest of Raglan to catch up with us. Early closing Easter and all that. Mid night apparently!
Have you any idea how long it takes to close up a pub? Forever whould be my spin. Emptying the club across the road takes longer. At last we get quiet, and then we get the staff, preparing the hotel guest accomodation for the night. Just as you think all is good, they start opening up :shit:

We head back to the hotel and pack ourselves and head home.
Tootle up the main drag, we turned off and did the Waingaru Springs way, would have been really cool bar the road works  Mile after mile of unswept, loose chip, new seal was not appreciated by this gal. I had thought of the Kaiaua Coast and SH16/Woodcocks Road home route, but after doing that crap, was very pleased to be doing the boring way.
Got home and unloaded. Went out, got some fresh milk etc, came home and had a nana nap

Bit of a feck up there really, I had the directions all locked and loaded before we left Raglan. I wanted to go through Waingaro/Rotowaro/Glen Murray rd to Rangiriri (Glen Murray rd) but end up in Ngaruawahia shaking my head as to where I went wrong...it was only then that I stopped to look at the map...
And the near off in the drain bit?...I was a 100mts up the road watching it all unfold in my mirrors thinking, where the hell are you going? we dont need any water cress au? then the head light pointed in the rigth direction just in the nick of time one might say......Marty and the bride stood guard the following day, acted as a human barrier...
Found where I went wrong...
Ohautira rd (17.4km) turn right onto Waingaro rd for 7.7km then turn LEFT onto Rotowaro rd, dont go straight which takes you to Glen Massey, should have gone through Glen Afton on Glen Murray rd....too many bloody Glens going on....
But look what I found in Piopio....

Hey, what a great time we had with the Warkworthians.
It was a time of many nearlys. We nearly saw the Mountain, we nearly saw a starlit sky, we nearly saw the Pukekos play at sunset, I nearly blagged a new jacket off Maha, Mark nearly kept his undies under control and Mom nearly saw the inside of a hedge on a motorbike
I thoroughly enjoyed the 'around the cloud ride', formerly the 'around the mountain ride', bugger all Traffic except for one rather large wayward bus and no road works...result.
All in all a bit of a no show Taranaki trip, couldn't even buy alcohol!!! crazy laws but hugely enjoyable meeting Mom and Maha for the first time, both top blokes and I can't wait till you come back to see beautiful Taranaki in it's full glory.
In the mean time check out the pics you should have taken back. The mountain framed by lake and bridge :p, The Chinese Wing Wong  and some pukekos.

A puzzling moment as we entered the Naki region on the way down...
I saw a lot of vapour trails in the sky....there seemed to be about 6-7 all at different angles.
You may see one up this way (or anywhere else for that matter) from time to time but to see so many at once was surreal, so much so that I thought for a moment that once we stopped someone would say something about meteors.
Next morning, same thing, walked outside with a coffee and there were even more than the day before. Early morning Sky traffic?
Just another daily occurrance over the skies of western NZ.
Which brings me to my next point...
Why isn't it the West Cape?
We have North and East Cape...:corn:
Cape Egmont maybe, but it should be renamed West Cape.

I know all the flights between Aukland and Taranaki fly just off the west coast and the same line would take you to Wellington and Christchurch, almost, so I guess a great deal of the North south air Traffic between major cities wazzes over Taranaki, in sight of Cape Egmont (something else you'll have to see next time.

Well, I have finally found the time to stop and clean my poor Millie. She was so bug splattered and road sploodged it was embarrasing to say she is my pride and joy :pinch: She cleans up a treat, even went out and bought special cleaning aparatuses/aparati, including a chamois :sunny:
I also finally rounded up all the fuel dockets, this little hunny averages just over 22 kms per litre of fuel. What an economical ride  Best of all with the 20L tank I have such a good range now, the Radian SUCKED
The commute uses more funnily enough.

I know Eddy Bear, but your bike was too BIG for me
I have taken the car to work this week, had a few tweaks done to Millie
Even given the crappy weather, I would still have preferred to have ridden rather than driven.
Apparently we are about to get hit again :sunny: Lets see how brave I am on Monday :woohoo:
