Nelson lakes is a dump this time of year.

I suggest Kaiteriteri. Takaka hill road, heaps to see, nice beaches, heaps of nice places to eat, Takaka hill road, not too far from Nelson, Mot and Takaka.

Great easy day ride over the Takaka hill road and up to Collingwood for lunch. Visiting "the emergence" and Pupu springs on the way.

The Takaka hill road has to be for me one of the top roads to ride in New Zealand, I rate it the same as the Para's and the road to Milford Sound.

Is there somewhere near Kaiteriteri that we could book out as a group? Remember we don't want the hassle of sharing a camping ground with the public like what happened at Danseys.

Yep, there is a small private farm camping ground on the back road (which is a nice ride in itself) I think Jennie knows where it is.

Dump? thought it was a lake... and as far as I know its a beautfull spot all year round.
The place I was thinking of is a set up similer to the Catlins hall dorms etc.

As far as Kaiteriteri great spot but we base rallys around a short ride and accomadation.

Yeah the old Nudist Camp....it's a wee way away from the populace...damn nice, they have cabins and camp sites, tennis courts, awesome beach and the bestest roads leading to and from...will pop over tomorrow on my way home from the top of the hill.

There is also the McKee Domain down the road on the Beach Front, tenting sites, shower/toilets, primitive and private - though at that time of year a few families maybe in attendance.

Ahhh, i'ts not nude anymore...it was.

The criteria needed to satisfy the campers does make finding a venue a little difficult....private property would be ideal.
Nelson and it's surrounding districts are so packed with loopies at that time of year.....I'm thinking....and it hurts!

St Arnaud village is just over an hours drive from either Nelson or Blenheim. The Lodge is situated on a gentle rise surrounded by native bush. Hi Mark,
Just to clarify:
The rates are as per holidayhouses.co.nz web site, IE $90/night for 4 people, then $5/night per person thereafter.
However we generally cap this charge at 16 people (which is the approximate sleeping capability of the house).
This means you can have a few extra people in tents or in the Living room, but the cost would remain at a total of $150/night (for the off season period).
Hope this helps,
Cheers,Guy

Unfortunately despite the excellent secluded location and proximity to good roads this works out at around $60/night split between 25 bodies (not that flash if u r tenting)

is . . . . .$6.00

$6.00 to stay in a tent ... $6.00 to stay in a heated room with ensuite ...

Uhh, Duh. Yeah should have checked that before i posted . Multi-tasking at work with a sticky calculator, doesn't work. At that rate anyone tenting would obviously be free. Seem to recall a couple of people including Oldrider tenting at the Staging Post. Anyway, check out the venue and pass you verdict. On the venue i mean. (Obviously i am a dolt)

Venue sounds fine to me; cost sounds good. I'll be bringing my tent as usual, as a precaution.
If I recall correctly, we all paid the same amount at the Staging Post, but I agree that tenters should be made some allowance.
Having said that, $6 is f/all!

How about this place ? http://www.riverinn.co.nz/AboutUs.asp

I have just been on the phone with them and they are more than happy for a group of people who ride motorbikes ( I didn't use the word "bikies" :innocent: ) to invade the place
They have beds for about 34 and a camp ground attached. The lady I spoke to said they don't mind if things get a little rowdy either :drinknsin:banana: and at this stage they have no bookings for the first or second weekend in December.

They may not mind it getting a little rowdy but experience say's other campers do and especially those with little kids and you usually get asked to keep quiet after 10 or 11

Just a thought but if we are looking at venues that have cabins or dorms, there is no reason why we can't stay at two separate places, one on Friday then ride to another for the Saturday overnight... One advantage being that we can't get thrown out for making a racket on the Friday night...

How set are people on the idea of Nelson-ish?

I may have another option more central, I'll check it out tonight with a friend of the owners and see if it's viable, if anybody is interested.

If not, carry on as you were.

If going all the way Takaka is being considered as an option Nelson (my old home town) has to be a consideration, providing you can find a quiet spot in an overcrowded retirement centre. Maybe Jen (alias Roadsafe/MyGSXF) could assist here?

This whole venue & date business is getting f**ing ridiculous, you are never going to please all of the people all of the time. So far a couple of kind individuals (genie, neels & xknits) have offered to "organize" or "check out" potential venues albeit not knowing which weekend might ensure the best turnout. So, to put an end to all this f**king about, I suggest that we ask those people to PM each other then put a deadline in finalizing both the venue(s) and weekend so anyone contemplating can decide to attend or not. Then we can proceed to discussing the important stuff (music, grog, gas stations etc).

Oh, one other thing - since the person contacting the proposed venue is an individual and will presumably make the call whilst sober, why on earth would they make booking for a "gang of drunken bikers"? All they need say is that we are expecting a turnout of 40 motorcyclists wishing to "celebrate an anniversary".

I know the Local scout camp in Wellington has been used by both the Ulysses club, and as a base for a capital coast ADV ride a few years ago.

The good thing is quite often you can get the place to yourself, and most are Rural based. Anyone in nelson want to have a go at contacting them?

A Christian Camp @ Teapot Valley was suggested to me and its here online but appears to be a fully catered camp with staff. And I'll put $$$ on it that Alcohol is not permitted!

BUT I think the Paretai option needs to be picked up by a KB members up Nelson way, dates ticked (9/10 Dec 2011), bond sorted, and advise us that it is a goer! OK, some of us may be on airbeds, but so be it. It will be all ours for 2 nights.

Ok as silly as this might sound, are we now set on the weekend ? I need to try and organise leave as I have one weekend off in December and the second weekend aint it.

thats why it has been left the same for the past 5 years so there are no worries about dates etc... so book it
