Thanks to Clint and Rosie for the vast amount of work - Ride Prep and organising etc - This is now one EPIC ride, We now don't just ride the Lake Waikaremoana, there is so much more to see in this area.

To do, or NOT to do??? that was the very tough question that I asked myself just a couple of days ago. With Father's day looking and being in Melbourne for a few days to visit son Tim who is now a Jetstar pilot, I found myself wandering around ( B I K E ) shops ...... First Evolution KTM on the outskirts of Melbourne, hmmm choices choices that 690cc was calling to me, and the salesmen were hot onto the customer who adored the adventure bike.

Having a good chinwag with the storespeople >>>>>???? who me???? welll it was interesting to know and to find out many gravel road tracks and trails for maybe my next visit. The more than VAST amount of terrain here was astounding. My few days here comprised of driving son Tim's car hmmm ( non 4 x 4 capable, yikes scarey in one place we found, SIGN did say 4 x 4 vehicles ONLY ) but still the small FORD did manage to do the business as we found ourselves taking it all in. EXCELLENT ADVENTURES were had. I had it in my mind to go exploring and to check out some wildlife. Somehow, going to the local ZOOOO does not quite have the same tang for me anymore and I prefer to view wildlife in the wilds if at all possible.

The hours flew as the small FORD took us on quite a few journeys of gravel road discovery routes and yes, there was a KANGA that was just about to jump the locals fenced in property but saw us and decided to high tail it further down and still over the fence. On the journey out of our discovery tracks we spotted a dead WOMBAT. It made me quite sad on stopping roadside to view, they are quite defenceless now that we have bulldozed their habitats down and have to compete with us zooming around their neighbourhood and mowing them down. Sorry to take pics of the dead WOMBIE but it did make me sad. It was amazing how many kms we travelled into the bush to find small lifestyle property blocks looming up everywhere, and further and further out into the outback territories also. There seems to be a building boom at the moment here.


Another excellent journey of discovery saw us head out and up to Kinglake National park. Many signs about the Black Saturday Bush Fires that killed 180people in Feb 2009, which also destroyed over 23,000 hectares of prime bushlands also. Total wipeout and disaster. Driving through the area you could see the rebuild progressing and the charred and blackened stumps of now ghostlike trees left behind. It was good to see the vegetation regenerating.
