This is an excellent resource for those wishing to improve there skills. It is all covered in the blog. Although I suspect that those that are keen on improving there skills will have all ready read it. Those that are not interested in improving there skills wont be looking at this part of the forumn any way!

I totally support Raftn's comments about this book - essential for anyone who cares about their riding. Another book which complements it is the Institute of Advanced Motoring publication "Advanced Motorcycling, the essential guide". Got my copy from Amazon UK for about 10 quid. I've reviewed Advanced Motorcycling here: http://geoffjames.blogspot.com/2011/05/review-and-related-ride.html

Both books are superb and well worth owning.

I had the book, one of many loaned out never to return. Recently a niece took up riding, I may have to get another copy?

I wouldn't swear to it but I think More Proficient Motorcycling is an earlier book of David Hough's with less in it. Proficient Motorcycling, 2nd Edition is the current one:

Having recently read both, my guess is that "Proficient Motorcycling" was written first but has a new edition out.

"More Proficient" looks to be an older edition, the material there in seems more in the nature of a discussion.

I found each is worthwhile on its own merits.

And a little more difficult to read, since they ride on the other side of the road..

The original book "Proficient Motorcycling The Ultimate Guide to Riding Well" was published in 2000. This can be downloaded here (A second updated edition was published in 2008.) (click on "free download" and wait for the seconds to count down before you can download)

This was followed up with "More Proficient Motorcycling Mastering the Ride" published in 2003.

"Proficient Motorcycling" 2nd edition, updated, was published in 2008. Can't find a download for it but you can buy it at Fishpond (http://www.fishpond.co.nz/Books/Proficient-Motorcycling-David-Hough/9781933958354?cf=3&rid=1526793328&i=1&keywords=proficient+motorcycling)

The same author (David Hough) has released a new book in 2011 "Street Strageties - A Survival Guide for Motorcyclists". Fishpond don't have it but Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Street-Strategies-Survival-Guide-Motorcyclists/dp/1889540692/ref=pd_sim_b_3_img/102-4948627-3393707) do.

A book I've seen highly recommended is "The Motorcycle Foundation's Guide to Motorcycling Excellence". Fishpond (http://www.fishpond.co.nz/Books/Motorcycle-Foundations-Guide-to-Motorcycling-Excellence-Motorcycle-Safety-Foundation/9781884313479?cf=3&rid=501079071&i=1&keywords=Guide+to+Motorcycling+Excellence) have it.

Some great winter reading :)
