MC19? Good o?

Only one year left till my full, but got the money and finding it hard to stay motivated on the gn :(

Looked at a Honda CBR 250 1988 with 50 000kms on it, current warrent and rego and just down the road from me. Anyone else had experience with that bike or advice on it? Any opinion appreciated.

PS Took it for a spin, apart from being a noob at riding a sports bike after riding a gn(took me a few seconds to get used to being so upright after) was real nice to ride, big ups from current bike.

I heard this new law is gonna hit from August where you can ride some bikes over 400cc or even 650cc. If that's true, maybe you can wait?

I don't know much about MC19s so can't help you with that matter, sorry.

Really? Where did you hear it from? They dont seem to like giving much warning. I read(i think on stuff.co.nz) that it was being phased in over 10 years :S. If this is true, might as well wait for my full, then get a buell or speed triple :2thumbsup

Only concern I would have about the Honda Alex, is the maintanance history. 50,000 k's is not 'high' but the motor is a revver... poor maintanance at high revs = high levels of wear internaly. My strongest advice is this,
1) Look at what you NEED, not what you 'want'... different riding positions, touring? commuting? scratching back roads? The CBR isnt a distance bike for riding position. Also your income needs to be thought into the equation.... 4cyl's ARE more expensive to maintain properly beside the costs of consumables (tyres/chains/sprockets/fuel) Saying all this? The performance 250's when ridden well are good wee 'toys' that even experienced riders can get a serious grin factor from. Possibly in the mix for you? Hornet/VTR/GT-R/ZZR-GPX/Zeal etc.......

+1 I had a 89 CBR 250 MC19, so long as you maintained it properly you were sweet, but mine only had about 20,000km on it most of which were put on by myself, It put out 38.8 horse power at the back wheel and cleaned up at the MCR Dyno shootout against the other 250's, I think the next one was 22hp and it was a new Ninja.
50km isnt high but if that bike hasnt been properly serviced and the owner cant provide proof then I wouldnt look at it again, IMO, how much were they looking for? alot of them are over priced too.

Great 250 sport bikes, bowt time u get rid of that gn either get your full and move onto nice cruisers of larger cc, or change to sport bikes which is a completely different style. Like all 90's jap sport bikes theyll all need some level Of maintence cos half of em get thrashed like fuck unless you get a lucky find. Besides that if you dont want to enter the 250 field of sport bikes just stick to cruisers or move straigh up to a 600 or something plenty of range nowadays. U comming from a gn tho just be cautious about ur purchase if u do wanna move into the fiddly jap 250's

If u were gonna get a cbr get a mc22. IMO.

for everyday riding there isnt that much difference betweenthe mc22,and the mc19,and given the often notable price differences, Id go the mc22.

The whole LAMS systemallwoing bigger bikes has been in the pipeline for ages. they started talking about it a couple yearsago.theyve set preliminary dates about a dozen times, and it always gets pushed back. as far as im aware, there is no current dead-set date for it coming in.

As above, look for maintenance history, long as she looksand goes good, youll be fine, very solid little bikes, that just go and go and go and go and go
