Hey Everyone,

So I passed my learners last week and brought a 1990 Yamaha FZR250r :)

But I cant find any solid plastic L plates for sale anywhere! Only the static ones people use in cages. I must have been to like 10 places looking.

Any Ideas?

I got mine from Andrew Templeton (Roadsafe) when I did my BHS. Try contacting them about it.

you could glue a static one to i piece of plastic the same size, ie a trimmed down icecream container lid. Yes it sounds cheap and nasty, and it is, but it does work if you use a good glue

Lol last resort, I'll make something ugly.. I'll try roadsafe when I get a chance. Surely there must be a retailer that still sell the solid ones :)

Get some yellow and black rattle cans and get creative on the rear of your helmet?

Most Rego payment shops have them, M10, repco, supercheap, supermarket, bike shops(sometimes but not often), postshop (sometimes)

With flyin' colours Bill, in fact, the day I did my full, it was ment to be an hour test but after 30 minutes I was back home, Anne thought I had failed...:killingme

combining ideas from Furyos J and Spearfish glue the static one to the back of your helmet, or jacket. Given the rate at which the solid plastic ones hanging from the number plate seem to break it may not be such a silly idea. I don't know about legal though, should be, but might have the hassle of an occasional chat to :Police: just because its unusual.

I didn't even do 30 minutes - 10 minutes was all I did before he passed me!! It is a bit of a joke really

I have my L plates somewhere in the garage - still in mint condition - they never fell off but I probably couldn't go fast enough on the old GN250 to get some wind up...

I just used a 'static' one, cut a small hole near the top and secured it with the bolt holding on the rego holder. Sure, it probably blew around a bit in the breeze, and sometimes stuck to itself when wet, but it was enough ( no prob on restricted).

you could make your own if you laminate this (or use packing tape?)

It seems that whenever I am on the motorway keeping up with traffic, the l-plate will get sucked toward the rear tire and destroyed. Its reather annoying; I need to find a better way to mount it....

We have a static one taped to the back of the GPX. Flaps around in the wind but holds strong. Have had no issues with it.

What are these "L plates" you speak of? are they those little yellow targets people stick on their vehicles?

I think that they are a repellant instead. I had one and was near magically pushed off the road. :bleh:

Go to Paper Plus and buy a yellow plastic manilla type folder. Cut a square out of it. Stick some black insulation tape to it to make an L. No problem. (I tried the ice-cream lid, but couldn't find a yellow one.)
If you're really quick you might find mine still in the bin outside AA Quay Street after yesterday's R test.;)
I was told mine wasn't regulation size... too small, to which I replied that the ones I'd seen were too damn big, so I'd just made one an appropriate size for a bike. He didn't care enough to stop me sitting the test, which incidentally was stupidly easy.

Seriously, make your own, and make it small. Mine was about 120 or 130mm square, and held on with one bolt at the top. Being small also makes it easier to stash under the seat when you get tired of the extra attention you get from cagers on the roads.
