My propensity for falling over and hurting myself is well known and somewhat of a family joke. I usually just crack or break a rib or two and skin my knees, but this afternoon I went one better and split my head open on the concrete.

I was assisting my son-in-law tie our grandson's new bed on the trailer, see, and I'd just chucked a rope over and was climbing over the drawbar when my foot got hooked up and down I went in a classic face-plant! It was a loud and disorientating crack as I hit, scratching and bending my glasses and cracking a rib in the process. I saw stars and bled all over the concrete while son-in-law grabbed the first aid kit and tended my wound. Wife, daughter and grandson came around to the loading bay at the store and were a bit put off to see the blood all over my face, but I reassured them it felt worse than it looked... :innocent:

So Mrs. Bear had to drive me to A&M in Red Beach where the nurses behind the counter had little difficulty in ascertaining the reason for my visit.

Talk about coincidence, the Doc attending to me had just got back from a cosmetic surgery class about how to suture a wound! :woohoo: So I got the best treatment!

So now I'm in bed having taken several painkillers and feeling very sore. I also hurt my back in the fall, but I've got an appointment for a CT scan on Monday anyway...

Mrs. Bear is not happy, naturally, as this comes on top of getting a call today that her Mum is in Waikato Hospital having heart surgery and may not survive so we have to go down there tomorrow.

Yeah the Doctor and Nurse were a crackup! The nurse reassured me that chicks dig scars and I said I had a few of those. She said, "What, chicks or scars..?"

The Doc was praising his own handiwork and reassuring me I was going to have an awesome scar, rather jagged, but well stitched together! I said I was running out of areas of skin without a scar or two, and the Nurse noted from my file that the time before last I was there for skinning my shin while falling off a trailer and the last time was for a cracked rib, as well. I think that was the time I fell down our stairs...

Oh, and best wishes to Mrs Bear's mum

It's going to take awhile to see how good he was as the wound was bone deep and jagged.

Thanks for the support for her Mum. She's 80 and hasn't been well for a long time. A lifetime of smoking has given her Emphysema and a weakened heart. She's been housebound for years.

perhaps you should ride everywhere, might be the safest mode of transport for you
We tease my Mrs because she has a habit of injuring herself on holiday but even she hasn't got a patch on you and she was blond in her younger days. Best she has managed was suspected concussion much she refused to get check out and another time a ruptured tendon which is still healing, but shes got nothing on you dude.
Heal well, stay warm, and all the best for the mum in law.

Thanks guys and gals! I'm a bit sore, but it only hurts when I laugh or raise my eyebrows! I didn't suffer any symptioms of concussion so that's good!

Everyone, and I mean everyone! is getting at me and telling me off, LOL!!!

Mother -in-law is not well. They've fitted a temp pacemaker and if she can hang in there and get a bit better they'll fit a permanent one. However she won't be going home again as she needs to be somewhere they can monitor and treat her so it'll be a resthome of some sort for her if she survives. But she's gone backwards a bit today which is a worry. We're off down again tomorrow, so we'll see how she's getting on.

We went down today and we were all able to see Jill's Mum. She was sitting up and looking remarkably well, chatting and smiling. She tires quickly though so we didn't stay long with her and the nurses are very strict about getting enough rest. She won't be going home to Whitianga again, if she can recover enough for them to fit the permanent pacemaker she will have to remain in Hamilton so they are looking for a unit to move into.

As for me? I's fine! LOL!!! Just hurts when I laugh...

Although, I fell over a month or two ago, standing on stairs lighting a smoke, took me a few hours to notice that I had bone hanging out of my elbow. What a muppet.

I had a CT scan this afternoon of my back, and should know the results by tomorrow or Wed. One thing they did find, was that I have a kidney stone! :bye: So as it's about 3-4mm I guess I'll go see the Doc and see what to do about it before it starts moving and causing me more pain...
