So I finally got some heated handgrips when I was at Honda getting a new rear tyre and wof today. Test Fitted them this Arvo and went for a ride. Worked perfect.
Go home to superglue the grips on to the bar, then leave it to set. Just checked on it, and somehow the fucking throttle is glued shut. Pulled the grip off and the throttle sleeve underneath won't budge. No idea where it's stuck. Any ideas bar cutting off the throttle and fitting a new one?

Turn on the hot grips ... see if the heat softens the glue's grip ...

Weird ... Turn them on and see what it does, leave it for a while to heat up then give it a good wiggle

Is the throttle tube open ended some glue could have scraped off and gone between the tube and bar?
If its not then it could have gone into the gap between the shoulder of the tube (if it has one) and the housing/clamp if the housing is in halves then you might have to pull the two halves apart.

You won't do that again!

You need to lower the carbon/boron rods to slow the reactions down within the uranium 235 fuel elements. You'll glow in the dark but the bike will be fine after that.

But if it was me, i'd add a rechargable battery a skateboard behind a pram so when mum pushes it's good for us !

Best to keep any future incidents like this to yourself:facepalm:

Hopefully you meant you glued the heated grip, to the throttle tube, ie the glue (used sparingly) should be on top of the throttle tube, under the grip.

If you put it between the throttle tube, and the handlebar, then no worky for you. The throttle tube is designed to slide around the handlebar.

Hopefully the heated grips soften up the glue, try putting them back on and run the bike for a while.

Yeah, the chances of your heated grips softening super glue is pretty close to zero.

Melting Point 365°F (185°C)
Softening Point 306°F (153°C)
Cured Temperature Range -65°F to 180°F (-54°C to 82°C)

somehow the fucking throttle is glued shut.

Whew, for a minute there I thought you were going to say it was glued wide open. Now that would be a bugger too!

Bugger!!! I will swap you - my heated handgrip on the clutch side works like the throttle in the fact in spins around - drives me nuts as the cable do-dacky moves round and gets in the way when I pull the clutch in

Should have done it myself!

The bike doesn't like being ridden by a big girl's blouse ... what was wrong with thick gloves???

Thanks for the replies guys.

Just so you know, I dont need heated grips, but this is my daily driver, no matter how cold or wet it is, so it's a nice luxury to have, even with winter gloves it makes a big difference.

Your advice worked, I put the heated hand grips on, which softened the glue just enough to start moving the throttle (with a bucket load of brute force). A mate and I then went at it with Acetone (nail polish remover) and pulled the throttle sleeve off completely and cleaned it inside and out. Fairly straight foward but quite fiddly.
Reattached everything and used the superglue very sparingly this time, and it works perfectly.

Then discovered I'd drained the battery by using the heated grips without the bike running, so had to roll start it haha.

The installation manual says you can wire it into the ignition so it turns off when the bike is turned off, but my mate pointed out this might be a bit too much current draw for the ignition system, so probably will look at installing a relay off the ignition when I find the time.

If anyone is considering heated handgrips, I have to say they are awesome.

Went for a blat at about 9pm last night, and I couldnt have cared less how cold it was, my hands were boiling hot.

If the glue melts with heat, then wont they just come off when the grips are turned on?

Say I wanted to swap some bars on a bike that has heated grips fitted, is that do-able?

throttle side not a problem, obviously, but what about the clutch side??

I've only had one ride (yesteday's shakedown on the ST-R) with heated grips, and I am a convert. they're freakin fantastic.

Get some.

And then you found that your gloves were stuck to your grips?

I've had that happen to me ... If the wife hadn't seen me from the kitchen window I'd have probably left my hands on the grips ... I was having fun ..

Shouldnt be too tricky. The heat doesnt make the glue unstick, but weakens it enough that you can break the bond with enough brute force.

You are going to fit your wife with heated hand grips? Wait a moment and let me picture this:gob:

Fitted hot grips to GLORIA and a motorbiking friend said, "Wimp!"

My reply, "Yeah, but a wimp with warm hands!!!"
