Does anyone have the 2010 r1 and get foggy headlights. Mine has 450kms on it and the lights fog up constantly, makes for shitty as visibility at night. Is there a fix for it? Thanks

Warranty claim?
Iv'e already told the dealer, and I will insist that it's fixed when I drop it off for it's 1000k service. Just wondering if it's happening on anyone elses?

Hi
We had a 2009 R1 and currently have a 2010 R1 Demo unit.
Neither of these has had the issue you mention. I wouldn't worry about it, it will be sorted under your warranty. If you want it done sooner take it in before your first service is due.

Had mine for 2 years. Never had that problem.

Ask for a new head light unit. They will never be able to get all the moisture back out.
The unit wont be air tight so when the bulbs heat the air inside it expands and escapes. When you stop and the light cools back down the air and any moisture out side is sucked into the unit and trapped.

For a warranty fix would your shop crack the assembly open and goop it back up to see if that fixes the problem or would you just replace the unit?

Have had 2 now...both have had the "problem".
In all honestly it doesn't worry me. My 1098S had it...Brutale 910R and both of my Superdukes too.

My TNAB has the same issue. Something to be discussed with a friendly Suzuki dealer at the upcoming 12,000km service, I suspect.

Head lights normally have a "breather" make shore it is clear.

I Suspected that, but since it's done it from day 1, I thought it to be quite improbable that it would be blocked. Plus I don't want to pull it apart incase the "Non yamaha trained technician" card is played and the warranty fix void. That would piss me off

Indeed...if in doubt, get the tech to suss it.

I can't help but think that you've had a bad run with both of your recent new Yamaha purchases. Maybe you should have bought a Kawasaki? :msn-wink:

I know what you mean, I think the Kawasaki designer that works on the front of their road bikes must be on some good drugs. That said, ugly chicks aren't much to look at either but a whole lot of fun once you mount 'em.

Making sure it's clear could be more effective.

Not had that prob on mine but I do have to have the speedo replaced because it refuses to switch from stopwatch mode to odometer mode...

Yeah it's gonna be better once it gets past 1000ks and I can start to hammer the shit out of it! It is slightly thirsty though.

Have you started adding bits to it yet?
Highly recommend going -1 off the front sprocket as it really helps with legal roll on power plus ups its yeeha factor too.
I've choosen a pair of the Two Bro's cans and a new mid pipe and Juice Box is on its way to sharpen it some more.
I also really recommend having your suspension tuned for you as they are renown for coming "uneven" up front. Once dialed they really are quite a different bike.

Its got GYTR carbon pipes which sound nice... apart from that its standard. I've found a nice setting for the track but I think it would really be nice if Rob taylor fettled it with some Ohlins goodies.... that'll have to wait a bit. Its a cracking bike as it stands though...

Yep agreed...I was nice for about 100kms and then simply just proactively gave it from there on in.
IMO the biggest concern to a new motor is labouring it which is also one reason why I re geared them from new.
PS...the pic in your profile looking down on (Omapere) Hokianga harbour! Lived there for 11 years and miss 'my' roads!

interesting read, I can imagine that article has caused some debate. my 2 stroke break in consists of getting to the bombing range as fast as I can, but I have a little more money invested into this one.

We've 31 bikes in the last 6 years, 27 new and have run all of them in in the same manner, bar 2. The only issues I've had with them have been me
PS...no I don't ride a GN125

The fix would be done however Yamaha instructed it to be done.
I would assume they would replace the hole unit rather than muck around with the old one.
As for the comments re suspension. How hard are they set in rear from new!
Even at 95kg I needed to back it off!

So I emailed the photos to the dealer and explained what's happening, He forwards the photos to Yamaha NZ who then get in touch with Yamaha Japan in regards to solving the problem. Their response is that they are aware of it but condensation in the headlights is a "natural phenomenon" and therefore not a warranty issue, and have instructed the dealer to open the unit up and spray a cleaner of some sorts inside to address the issue. Hopefully not at my expense!
DAMN YOU NATURAL PHENOMENON YOUR A PAIN IN MY ASS.:argh:

Well, absolutely not replacing the blade with an R1 then.
It's nice to see that if your brand new $20,000motorcycle isn't completely satisfactory, Yamaha will bend over backwards to see that you're looked after
Take them to the LMVD disputes tribunal. Sure you might lose, but at least you'll have been a pain in the arse for a couple of days. Make sure you schedule the hearing for outside of their home city so they have to travel.
Yamaha NZ aside, what's the name of the dealer who's holding your cheeks apart whilst they fuck you in the arse?
