Why not both. If the roads will need replacing less often, then why not?

Because there is still plenty of rooftop space. You could just do the top half of those tiles for the road with same durability (if indeed it is any better, which I doubt), and put the bottom half on a roof, and throw away all the lights/heaters/other things the tiles have in them. It just seems like a more efficient solution to split it up.

apropo nothing....

We live in an age of revelation. There has never been era in which so much clear and glaring evidence of so many horrific crimes and abuses by state and private power has been so widely and freely available. Year after year, the revelations pile up. None of it makes any difference (http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/05/edward-snowden-one-year-nsa-surveillance-reform). Instead, power doubles down.

This week, the UK government -- which was supposedly "rocked" and "shaken" by the Snowden revelations in the Guardian -- announced it will hold its first completely secret trial (http://www.theguardian.com/law/2014/jun/04/uk-secret-terrorism-trial-legal-justice-human-rights) for hundreds of years. (It is, of course, a trial of two "suspected terrorists.") This is how "rocked" the UK government has been by the "scandal" of its eager cooperation with the NSA's secret Stasi-like operations. This is how effective these world-changing revelations have been in forcing more "transparency" in government. The UK is about to step back into medieval times, violating the principles laid down in the Magna Carta -- 800 years ago.

But this is all of a piece with the general trend, the ever-more obvious agenda of the ruling elite. From neoliberalism to neofascism to, ultimately, neofeudalism: a new dark age, where the rabble live in fear and want, at the mercy of powerful, unaccountable elites locked away in gated splendor. (Though to be sure, they will sally forth now and then in squabbles amongst themselves for a bigger share of loot and power -- squabbles which inevitably involve the death and ruin of multitudes of innocent people.) As noted here (http://chris-floyd.com/component/content/article/1-latest-news/2397-cant-slay-the-serpent-marching-backward-into-darkness.html)the other day, old evils -- fascism, racism, nationalism, feudalism -- don't die. They return in new forms, and have to be fought again, over and over.

My concern is that that isn't going to be enough. Debt jubilees have been tried before and failed back then. Now that's not a reason not to try it, don't get me wrong (as so many like to, lol), if we've got nothing better, then why not. The world has an awful lot of people to cater for as it is and I don't see how burning the economic candle twice as fast will do anything other than to add to problems that will screw generations that are yet to come.

NOW there is a way that will work

There will be simple chaos as the pins are pulled from the base, the gears grind to a stop, the machine will pump its last puff.

Of course they did .. the Great Satan is puling out of Iraq .. if ISIS takes over 'Merika has the perfect excuse to re-invade, use up a lot of munitions (spend more money) and lives (keeps unemployment down) and keep the 'Merikan economy afloat ...

I'd love to be able to say that that's all bullshit. Stupid World.

True!

[quote] The most ironic thing about rising inequality is how completely unnecessary and self-defeating it is. If we do something about it, if we adjust our policies in the way that, say, Franklin D. Roosevelt did during the Great Depression—so that we help the 99 percent and preempt the revolutionaries and crazies, the ones with the pitchforks—that will be the best thing possible for us rich folks, too. It’s not just that we’ll escape with our lives; it’s that we’ll most certainly get even richer.

Rothchild quote: "Give me control of the finances of the world I care not who makes the laws" ... they have that control!

The world financial system controllers know all of this (and what to do about it) but their agenda and that of the the rest of the world are not aligned!

Because without a financial system you have no way of trading anything unless by some remarkable coincidence you happen upon someone with shit you want who wants your bag of hammers. In quantities you both find acceptable. You've got no way of measuring the market value of anything and no way of saving anything.

A situation common with some human societies in the stone age, and none since.

Work it out yourself.

Of course there's a way of trading everything without a financial system. It often happens in some circles when people hand stuff on. Why make that which is unnecessary? Why "employ" people in the pursuit of making that which is unnecessary? Why "employ" people in jobs that are unrequired? Why waste energy and materials on that which is unnecessary? The market will free itself and bound to a set of requirements requested by society... anything after that is for toys... preferably toys that are produced with components that can be reused. Beats the shit out of the opposite of any of those things that your financial system requires in order to function.

You're a fossil.

I did. Your turn.

Excellent idea. Only, we could make them out of plastic, and make a wee magnetic strip on them to keep tally.

The English only used tally sticks because the romans had gone, leaving them with insufficient coinage to pay tax. They serve the same function as cash, to record debt. And in fact a credit card serves it even more exactly in recording both creditor and debtor identities.

Nah, about as different as changing your ASB card to an ANZ card.

However, it did prompt me to have a wee look for the first recorded use of tally sticks. Definitely prehistoric.

And Steven's mate Henry the 1st implemented them to keep track of taxes, soon becoming general currency.

Aaaannnd in the late 1600's the first shares in the Bank of England were purchased with tally sticks, :niceone: The bank immediately began lending out several times more money than it had received: Fractional reserve banking. In the 17th century. Three and a half centuries before Bretton Woods.

Can u explain how a non debt based currency can be debased by making more of it.

not taking the piss here ,,,serious question ,,,if the tally stick is a record of a transaction then having more just makes people wealthy and as there is no inflation or interest the value will remain

least thats how I see it

Don't think there's any such thing as a non debt/credit based currency. It's their primary function, to represent assets, borrowed or loaned. A tally stick is no different to a coin in that regard.

And I read fookin ages ago that it was fairly common for monarchs to sell tally sticks at a discount to fund pet projects, usually to do with neighbourhood disputes.

Which can only have caused inflation, because it sure as fuck didn't make anyone wealthy all of a sudden. So no, tally sticks are no less prone to inflation than any other currency.

True and Social Credit has been battling them for years now it looks like this UK driven "Positive Money" are gearing up modern comunications to really get on top of it!

They have a NZ branch too "Positive Money NZ" good use of modern media gets the message out clear and concise I am looking hard at them!

All political parties combined should get right in behind this if they want to succeed with any of their individual party policies!

51% (or maybe 52%) of our social welfare budget goes to old age pensioners .. those bludgers are scooping out more taxpayer money than thesolo mothers, unemployed and other beneficiaries put together.

51% (or maybe 52%) of our social welfare budget goes to old age pensioners .. those bludgers are scooping out more taxpayer money than thesolo mothers, unemployed and other beneficiaries put together.

No - that does not come out of the social welfare budget. Yes, adding that in probably brings up the total "welfare" spend and reduces the percentage which goes to old people ...

And as they're not in pokey it must be legal.

Not to mention of fuck all value compared to the widespread rort of avoiding tax by failing to earn fuck all and bludging off the state. Them's the pricks you need to ping.

Try to remember that.

Hence why they're looking at it.

You could wipe out every single Ocean labelled bludger and you'd still have the same problems coz there'd be noone to buy the shit that's produced . It's called extrapolation. Try it.

Nah, that's called bullshit.

No bludgers means there'd be far less money taken from those that earned it, who would then be in a much better position to buy all that shit you're worried about.

Old people are in fucking good company, supposedly 55% of New Zealand households are net tax recipients, they recieve more in benefits than they produce in tax.

In the UK it's 60%.

Now how does that affect who's fucking who and who's paying?

Yeah - that's because people like you scream if they tax the rich to support the poor - so they tax everyone and refund money to the poor ... If we had better differential tax rates we would not need working for families .. but then you'd all scream about he high differential tax rates ...

And if we pay less taxes do we:

A Put less into the Health system

That they don't do. Fuck me even the extreme left UN doesn't attempt to present the whole lower 55% income earners as poor.

And I wouldn't mind paying more tax than I currently do, if it benefited everyone. Like most infrastructure. Like most health services. And not even slightly like "working" for families.

And who knows, if you didn't subsidise middle income earners in NZ to the tune of somewhat more than they pay in tax then you might be able to afford to help the actual poor and the actual sick when they actually need it.

National's response? Shut down the monitoring program (http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PA1407/S00290/goverment-drops-recreational-river-reporting.htm):

This isn't the first time they've done this. They didn't want to hear about the social consequences of their government, so they shitcanned the Social Report (http://norightturn.blogspot.co.nz/2011/11/burying-evidence.html). And they dumped comprehensive environmental reporting (http://norightturn.blogspot.co.nz/2012/10/censoring-environment.html) before reviving it in a crippled form, in order to censor bad news about the environment. Like a bad boss, their response to bad news is "I don't want to know", rather than "lets fix this".

Believers in what? Most intelligent people probably know better than to believe anything from blogs called "no right turn".

Or in fact to even bother reading them. Maybe they're more like a good manager that gets handed a report full of bullshit and files it appropriately. In which case they're probably more likely to believe something from a somewhat less hysterical and demonstrably biased source: http://www.socialprogressimperative.org/data/spi#performance/countries/spi/dim1,dim2,dim3

Perhaps you should look at changing your source of beliefs for some sources of knowledge.

In Russia Water and Vodka have similar words and sound similar you can easily get confused with labels if you keep translating russian to english etc.

They had to put them in different shaped bottles some time ago as people would take a swing from the wrong one in the morning. (Or at-least that was the excuse they made)

Using God, Pan, Devas, Nature Spirits re-found for the Findhorn Gardens? The Magic of Findhorn is a very interesting read in regards to stuff growing in places it shouldn't be growing and how gardening novices produced a 42lb cabbage from sand in one of the most inhospitable places of Scotland.

A copy of the Genesis share register compiled immediately before its stock exchange listing in April shows American pet-food barons Christopher and Leegena Weinberg held 1.05 million shares, which would have cost $1.6m. At current prices, those shares would now be worth about $1.9m - a $300,000 profit for the Weinbergs.

All bought and paid for with 0 interest money

hahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa

oh and as shareholders must make a profit , one wonders if the prices will go up.........

I see Nick Smith is being his usual fuckwitted self...

Conservation Minister Nick Smith is threatening legal action against Fish and Game council members who accused him of trying to gag the organisation.

Fish and Game chief executive Bryce Johnson said the minister indicated he wanted to “tweak” Fish and Game because its advocacy for clean rivers was standing in the way of economic growth.

Clean rivers?

Anathema!

If this is true then why the fuck is he the conservation minister.

This is why I think we would be better off electing animals instead of people. I would feel much safer.
Hell I would even vote for honest retarded people.
