View Full Version : I need a shoulder to cry on...

My beloved C50T has gone! :crybaby: Many may know I've had to sell it as I'm banned from riding bikes again due to breaking my back last year and not having a great prognosis for the long term. In short, I've been told in no-uncertain terms that if I want to be walking in ten years, I have to be very careful to protect the two dodgy vertebrae I have left for movement. :bye:

That means no lifting, jogging, running, tennis, badminton, vacuuming, mopping, bending, twisting, or pretty much anything that could place undue strain on my L4/5 vertebrae which I damaged back in '82 on jackhammers... The five vertebrae above those are now tied together with titanium rods, screws and brackets...

Oh, and it also means no motorcycling...

So my pride and joy has been up for sale for a while now and I've had a lot of interest lately since dropping the price. I've had two come and look at it over the last few days, the first guy, I think was hoping for a bargain and he nearly got one as he said he was definitely interested and wanted me to email him a firm price for the bike and all our gear including the helmets.

As Mrs. Bear and I were discussing the offer the phone rang and it was another guy frmo Whangarei who'd expressed interest and asked if he could come down on Sat. morning to see it. When I told him about the first guy, he said that as long as the bike was as I described it he would buy it for my asking price! Naturally, when I emailed the first guy, I told him that if he could better the price by only $100, (as he also wanted my wife's gear which was mint, so he'd still be getting a good deal), he could have it. He declined. I think he was expecting to get everything for just over the $8k.

So Sat. morning Nigel arrives with his two teenage daughters and as soon as he laid eyes on the bike, I knew it was gone!

His daughters, loved it too, so it was a certainty. NOw I have to get it WoF'd, and registered for him, which he'll pay for and he'll pick it up next weekend. A good mate of mine will ride it out to Classic_Z's for the WoF. So I've got one more week to see it parked in my garage and then it will be gone... To say I'm gutted is an understatement and I'll miss it and biking terribly! Still, I do have the comfort of knowing it's gone to a guy same age as me who will look after it and appreciate it as much as I have.

Oh that is actually a sad thing to read, but as you say, it had to be.

Interesting you broke your back in a cage though :dodge:

You now have the best of both worlds, a safe environment for your back AND you get to live nefariously through your biker friends :innocent:

I have to say that after a month with the new Suzuki Kizashi Ltd. it sure makes things easier to accept. The base GSX model won the overall supreme car of the year award and also topped its class against the top line models from the competitors and we've got the Ltd. for which I'm running out of superlatives! Goes like a V6, drinks like a small four, rides and handles like an exotic and has more fruit than Euro's up to four times the price! Oh, and it looks fabulous in the Prussian Blue being unique as the only one in this colour in NZ.

I'm sure I'll survive somehow, but it's going to take the rest of my life to get over biking... :innocent:

Took me six weeks of very interesting and in-depth research to choose it and then I nearly got the Hyundai i45 which is a close second. It's not often one buys something and then finds out that you did get the best! Usually you buy something and then everyone tells you it was the wrong choice and you could have got better/cheaper somewhere else...

You're not wrong my friend! Each day is a precious day and I am eternally grateful to be alive and able to grizzle about my misfortunes! My father had a saying, "I cried 'cause I had no shoes, then I saw a man who had no feet.." I can walk and talk, hug my wife and kids and grandkids, (well it'll be plural when number two comes along in January), I am very lucky and I know it!

Got the MX5, mate, spent enough on the Kizashi anyway. My back is rather delicate now, so I have to pull my head in and listen to the Docs and my surgeon. I'm genuinely concerned about my mobility now, I was a bit blase' about it until my last appointment with the ACC doc. He told me off and was quite blunt about my situation...

Keep up with the Physio and get as strong as I can to protect my back. I fell over recently, see my thread, "The fall guy takes another.." I was shocked at how weak I am, still, and I'm on a diet to lose a bit more weight around the middle.

I'm working hard at my business which is looking up so that keeps me occupied. My eldest daughter is expecting our second Grandchild in Jan and our youngest is "almost pregnant", LOL!!!

I'm really enjoying spending time with the family and we're doing a lot together these days. We've always been a close family, including extended family, but nothing acts as well as a near-death and serious accident to give everyone a fresh look at life and relationships, eh?

Now that we've got a car I can drive we plan on getting around a lot! I've been pretty much house-bound for 18mths!

My Mother-in-law is in Waikato Hosp. having just had a pacemaker fitted so we've been down the last two weekends to support her and my wife's family, and the crisis has drawn us all closer together, as such tend to do. So while I may not be able to ride, I'm not going to have the time to cry over it much..

I doubt he would have appreciated me taking pics of his daughters... They weren't bad, either. The older one was about 6'2", and the younger looked about 13.

I can get more fun in the MX5 than a trike, it's not the same as a bike - biking is unique and cannot be replaced with anything remotely like it. :scooter:

Money aside, the lean systems allow for essentially the same ride as 2 wheels. Minus the need to put your feet down to stop, over leaning and falling off, and your positioning in the lane.

While they are a great machine, I can't afford one. All said and done, two wheels are unique and no other number of wheels can take their place. Motorcycling is unique and different from anything else, and I love it for what it is.

Be very careful, mate!

I just got my final ACC Dr's. report and while my surgery is stable and strong enough now, he diagnosed a degenerative facet disease of my lumbar spine, probably from an old injury I sustained using jackhammers back in '82, which prevents me working such as my old job of sales and marketing manager for more than 20hrs per week.

The accident and surgery have accelerated and exacerbated the progression of the disease, so I have my next apointment with my surgeon on 7th Sept. and will see what he says. Meantime I now have to go back and get all my medical records from my accident in '82 to see if it does relate to the degenerative disease and if so, then it's back on the ACC treadmill for that...

I'm now looking at part-time jobs to replace the ACC income I've been on as that will probably cease on the 7th Sept. if my application for a review is rejected. My business is building up well, though and I'm hoping we can take enough in drawings from it by then to live on until it really gets going.

Medium to long term prognosis for my back is not flash, so I really have to listen to the Docs, and accept my limitations if I want to keep walking.

Post cycle. Dude.. shit pct = all your gains lost...

HGH for cutting.... lower your carb intake, and you'll be ripped in no time. At your age, I would supplement dhea as well..

I'm the cook so we're watching our diet and eating healthy and I do my physio every day, I'm slowly winning the battle and yesterday reviewed my meds with my GP. I see my surgeon on the 7th so we'll see what he reckons.

that's real sad mate, and it's something many of us will face at some stage. The thing to remember is that motorcycling is much more than riding, it doesn't mean you can't talk about bikes, look at bike porn and even buy the odd project to fuck with in the shed and pass on to a deserving victim.

Yeah, I'm flat out building my business at the mo so it keeps me occupied. I'll always be a biker and still on here to annoy people... :third:

I do as much as I can. But we've now got a housekeeper in and she's brilliant!

I guess bikes are either in the blood or not, and if they're in your blood, you're always a biker!
