Exactly what I was thinking too. Paparoa rd through to Whanga'z and then up Old Russell Rd is a good fairly direct route I reckon.

Yep random rides are wicked but when it's your first hoon up there I do recommend at least going up Old Russell Rd and catching the ferry over to Opua...ride through to Waitangi....Puketona Junction and then right up to Kerikeri.

Keep your wits about you, stretches of the road have been in shade for weeks & have the green bastard growing down the middle of each lane, particularly from Rawhiti turn off to the Opua turn off & also around Helena Bay (good cafe their for a break & a view).
It's hunky dory though, the Twin Bridges road has it's winter coat growth too in places. Still lots of road to go "Weeeeeeeeeee, Zoooooooooommmm" on & way betterer than SH1.

We have a new Curry house & new Thai restaurant in Paihia if Kerikeri is shut. The Indians in Kawakawa is good too, even by Pommy standards.
Have a great run.:drinknsin

This could turn into a really big adventure, Waipoua forest, Mangamukas, down the twin bridges road & back up old Russell road. Lashings of cornering goodness but probably close to 500k's.
F@$k it, might as well go to the Cape too:laugh:

I would opt for that, Kaitaia/Lighthouse/ down to Kerikeri, FREE coffee at Paihia, back to Kaikohe, twin bridges, Paparoa/Oakleigh, Kaiwaka/Mangawhai/ SH16.

How long zee got...

After recent stops I guess it must be Koha. Codys & Coke or JD & Coke RTD's seem to be the most popular.

Colonel and I and luggages[tee hee!] will be going up from Whangarei over the mangamukas then thru to Taipa on sat arvo if you want to join up? It is about 30 min from there, south to Kerikeri.
You will be doing a lot more km's than you think. It is 160km to Whangarei and then another 80 or so to Kerikeri. The mangamuka smile will make you forget that tho!

Which presents the opportunity to turn off towards Whangaroa & follow the coastal route too Matauri Bay.
There are an awful lot of corners up here...

I rode back from Kawakawa to Haruru at 6pm last night. I had nipples like Chapel hat pegs when I got home. I hope you were off the road before the sun went down. Brrrrrr. I'm getting soft.

I was a tad jealous of Moms heated grips this morning...not alot, just a tad..
Tough Harley rider at Paparoa took his gloves off and rested them against his 'now hot' metal bits..I must admit to holding onto more than the grips at times myself..:shifty:
