Whilst in town today came across this on a promotional disply, very nice indeed.Did however have a chuckle when whilst taking a few pics had one of the blokes looking after it say to me "do you like our baby then" :confused:the gorse bush on top of his head held together with some kind of womens hair gel shit combined with the "look at me Elvis" collar thing put me off a tad and i politely said "if thats your baby its choking to death" as the air filter was in parts clogged up with shit.Took a few more pics and left him standing there looking at me blankly.Whilst i might be a bit piccy with such things in this case it was painfully obvious to anyone the filter was in dire need of attention.Beautiful example of one of Fords finest all the same.

I'm with you mate. There's something about those things even in kit form that is just "right", although it'd be even more right if it had quad webbers instead of the Holley. Nice to see it looks used rather just a garage queen.

:Punk:I love those gt 40s, it could be a real one, there is one up Auckland ways. I had a real good look at it the last beach hop, Whangamata (or maybe the beach hop before) and talked to the owner. And it was a genuine gt40, with a hand built dry sump 427 (i think, my memory is always a bit hazey) rebuilt by the shelby factory, had a couple of vivid scribbles on it, by some dude ive never heard of, Carol Shelby i recall. Same dude owned a Detomaso Pantera parked next to it.
Not saying that is the same car, but there is at least one real one in good old NZ:Punk:
ALtho this one does not look 100% like the one i saw, that had a much neater engine bay.

So that's where that thing was heading.....saw it on the road heading south a week or so back  Bit of a WTF moment seeing it in amongst a group of other cars as they went past :shit:. Looked like the perfect mid-life crisis vehicle for the bottle blond fart that was behind the wheel

Im thinking it may have had a 6 trumpet fuel injection system (the genuine one at beach hop) kinda in the "hillborn" style, but stubby trumpets. May have to trawl thru my BH photos and find it now!

I'd rather have a decent kit car repro than a "real" one: the real ones are waaaaay too valuable to drive on our roads, particularly with NZ drivers.
There are usually a couple for sale on tardme, sort of between $70 and $100k asking.

Not likely. They only built 7 Mk III's, and I'm pretty sure none of them are here.
If that's the one that used to be on show at Gasoline alley, it's a 289 kit based on the Christchurch manufactured kit.

Looks too wide in the valley for a small block & has the opposite taper at the ends of the tappett covers for small block & not shaped right for cleveland heads (but I have been known to be wrong before.
Best heads I have seen for a small block were the Gurney Eagle / Gurney Westlake ones I sold to Keith Simpson for his NZ1 stock car many moons ago.

Yea, that kuda is sweet, and its getting and extreme rebuild at the mo, all done by my mate himself:Punk:. Chassis connectors, seam welded, extra bracing everywhere, removable roll cage, angry as 440 being dropped in with 4spd manual, hochkiss suspension, fibreglass guards and bonnet. just to name a couple of the mods being done, then finished in grey primer.......sooooo cool, love it

Kinda sucks about that law where you weren't allowed to melt peoples bumpers......those exhausts were fantastic.

Yep those 71ish mopars have a nice rear end, and i like the "goofy" front. Have you seen the yellow 71 road runner in auckland with the 605 alloy Hemi in it? its bad ass, over 900hp.
Our next car is planned to be a 69 coronet/super bee clone, or66/ 67 satelite/gtx (altho they didnt make gtx in 66, but that wouldnt stop me from making one) Altho ive started to get a thing for motorcycles that is getting in the way of the car at the mo!!

We're talking looks, not practicality... lmao No ONE could ever accuse a Cobra of being practical, it was always 'designed' to be an out and out sledgehammer when pitted against other cars...I mean hell almost 50yrs on and the original AC's are STILL one of the fastest accelerating vehicles on the road,,,, not bad for an old 'un

.
They must be able to stop fuckin' fast then.
0 to 100 and back to zero in 13 seconds means it takes 3 seconds from 160kph to a standstill - without hitting a wall or U-turning cop car.
Not bad eh!
Mind you they were only a 12.5 second 1/4 mile car - I guess with traction control and stickier tyres they might whittle of another few 10th off.
I guess technology has given the other types and edge, I mean those 427 Cobra figures were here about 30+ years before a shitload of the cars you quoted..

Ah well, technology has passed it by eh!
Still, the Cobra is primo choice with the replica crowd - don't see too many replicas of the modern cars getting around, I guess the rawness and visceral appeal combined with an 'easy-to-work-on' build is what does it.
(IF I ever had to fix any of those trendy modern things I'd be stuffed:confused: - but a Cobra I could fix.)
