Is anyone able to give me advice of what is best to use to clean a visor and helmet?

Pledge works for me. As does the search function on this site.

Brace yerself!

Pledge is both better and cheaper than that ludicrously overpriced Plexus nonsense. Not only does it clean well, it also lets water bead up nicely so it blows away in the wind.

Thanks for the advice.

Will try pledge.

Not to computer savvy and trying to find my way around this site and the tools that can be used.

Always ken to get advice from those that know better.

I recently washed my (then) new visor under warm water with soap. This turned out to be a bad move as the anti-fog coating on the inside sort of "melted" and I had a shit of a time to correct the resulting blurring. I rinsed it again under a warm tap to soften the coating then used Her Indoors hair dryer to dry it - crystal clear again. Now I stick to Pledge and don't wash the inside. Thanks for the tip, Hitcher.

Yer... gone away from the pledge idea, it leaves a waxy coating that can make vis into the sun a bit difficult.
Get a synthetic chamois from the 2 dorrar shop, soak it in hot water and drape it over the visor for a minute or so... that'll soften the bugs and oil and stuff.
Then wash it out in clean water and put some barrs bugs on it and clean the visor.
Comes up real "U" beauty.. .....

I do the dishes in HOT soapy water and then i pull my visor off and use the rest of the HOT soapy water and a clean dish cloth (Chux cloth). That removes all the crap and then rinse with hot water and leave to dry on a towel. Be good to apply a water beading product... any other potential products?

Definately use Pledge BUT: always use the lemon one (better wax content) and never use too much. It will buff perfectly clear if you dont use to much. Also use it for polishing your whole bike. It's amazing stuff. Dont put it on your seat though !

I wash my husband's race motorcross helmet this way too (but only if he isn't looking) :woohoo: dunk it in the dishwashing water gets the mud off it!

I use the same stuff on the visor of my helmet, that I use on my glasses and it cleans well. You can get it cheap from Specsavers

rinse the crap like bugs, sand, salt off under running warm water and then pledge. I use a micro fibre cloth bought from The Warehouse as a PC screen cleaner, don't use paper towels as they scratch.

Huh? Clean the visor in dirty dishwater???:gob:

Just rinse off under a hot tap and let dry, then apply the pledge and polish off with a soft cotton rag.

Give Plexus a go. Cleans better than Pledge, has less light scatter at night than Pledge, smells better than Pledge, doesn't cost very much (maybe 20c a week?), and beads water better than Pledge, and unlike Pledge you can't apply too much.

Yep, Plexus is great.

By the way imdying, I thought we were doing puns on the "Shades of things to come thread. I'm one up on ya.

I put my helmet in the dishwasher.

I find finish powerball 3in1 tablets are the best.

I prefer the smell of Plexus to that of Pledge. At least the version I bought anyway...smells like a tart's window box.

Both seem to work pretty much the same though.

Most of the time when I gas up at a servo, I use the windscreen brush.. works sweet, hate having to look thru the wall of bugs all teh time

Yeah .. most of the time I forget until I'm riding and looking through a dirty visor. Most of the time I ride in shades with my visor open - so I don't rememebr it's dirty until it rains and I'm forced to close it .. Too late !!!

So I clean it when I fill up .. but never use the brush ... it might have grit in it that will scratch the visor. Use their paper wipes dipped in the windscreen wash liquid.

I'm in disagrozzlement. Mr Sheen is the stuff, smells of gay bees & gives your helmet a lovely lustre.

+1 to this. I do the same, when I remember and the visor comes up a treat. Of course it does show you all the real scratches and marks on the visor indicating time for a new helmet...

Paper towels, really? I've always used them with Pledge on the visor. I just did some searching and it seems your right. Paper towels don't adsorb grit and can cause scratching.

I'll have to go back to using a cloth. Thanks for the tip.
