Moving jobs to be working in the CBD and sadly the VFR is not so comfortable when used on a daily basis
-Braided lines front and back
-OEM HRC CDI and derestrictor (worth 2-300$ by themselves I'm told)
-New tyres around 30000kms, gpra10's front and rear (prev owner)
-~31000kms valve clearances done (prev owner)
-just after 31000kms I replaced the fuel tap innards, replaced the rear master cylinder and brake pads (front have plenty left on them). Around the same time I did an oil and filter change and coolant flush.
front wheel bearings replaced 33000kms, new horn also (old was getting a little sick). Comes with the original front screen and a dark tint aftermarket one.
Also have a few random spare bits with it
-I've replaced the carbs and airbox back to stock as prev owner had attempted to do the HRC modifications to these. Since putting the new carbs etc in it has been rejetted (due to the modified exhaust) but carbs not balanced. I've been quoted about 180$ max to do this, but wanted to replace one of the exhaust flange copper gaskets first (never got around to it, part costs $2)
-Also have bits and pieces - ie haynes manual, ABBA superbike stand for it, various spare parts that are negotiable in price
Beautiful bike to ride, great in the turns, just not the most comfortable for the daily commute into town!:-( will be sad to see it go (not in a major hurry though ha!)
Would possibly consider a swap +/- money each way for something like a cb400, gs500, sv400, bandit 600, er5, honda bros, possibly even a katana or a gsr600. Ideally looking for a bike that has a front screen or fairing and would love it if it had a pack rack.

Thanks, I feel like I'm going to regret selling it, it has been my dream to own one of these bikes (well, short of a moto guzzi or single sided ducati...but I don't have a spare 15k lying around ;-)). But I just can't hack it when looking at 1.5+ on it every day of the week :crybaby::brick:

Great bikes ae,
I had a real hoot on mine,
and Icemaestro has put his at a really good price for a really tidy and well looked after bike,
To offer him less would almost be an insult! my insurance company valued mine at a market value of $4000.
Hope you get full price for it man,
and for anyone considering one of these but is unsure,
Just do it! you wont regret it, they can be hard on your wrists, but its worth every moment in the saddle of an angry V4

Not my wrists that get killed, my neck from craning up :-P that and my work a bit probably...
Can't raise the clip ons on the vfr up I think - the bars naturally tend to just touch the speedo from stock, let alone if you put modified clip ons on them

You would have to get actual bars and have them come over the tank a little more, then I think it would still catch on the fairing, I found I got a tired neck I lived down a twisty road though, Shit I miss it haha

Would you swap a 1992 CBR600?
First of the 100 Hp models, and really easy on gas on the commute...

Possibly, the position on it all right? What kind of km's does it get to how many l? And what km's/condition is yours in? From memory the early 90s
Ones go for around 2.5-3k yeah? Does it have a pack rack?

Pretty sure its similar mileage to the VFR and they are a tourer sports so the position would be sweet for commuting

The riding position depends on how tall you are, but I am 6'1", and fit on it really well.
I can easily sit on it in comfort for the entyre fuel load in one stretch, which is about 160 Miles.
It will reture 4.9L/100K if you ride it at 100 K and are not braking and accelerating a lot, OR you can burn through all your fuel at a rate of 7.5 l/100K if you are at Manfeild.
It is not the tidiest, but fair condition for age.
I have 3 in total available.
One is my bike, which has after market fairings from "Just Fairings", Indicators from a NS1, a rear shock from a 93 model, and passenger foot rests from a 1999 model. It has covered 50000 Miles, but still runs sweet, and makes a lot of power, and sounds great with a Kirker Pipe.
The wheels are off a 1993, so are black, and not red.
The second one is being sold by a mate it has all origional fairings, and just had a replacement motor put in it, with 40000 miles on the motor.
It has a rear shock from a 2001 model.
The third is a spares bike that comes with the second one (Has a blown motor).
None of them have a pack frame, BUT I can throw in some panniers....
I have always reckoned the pack racks spoil the CBR's, so never got one for it, and have only really used a tank bag.

Would prefer the one withthe low km's and original fairings, any photos? He's probably not open to the swap thing then is he? If there's any chance on getting some photos either up here or can email to icemaestro@gmail.com. I've never ridden the 600 before, would need to try one up here first probably, I see your down in bulls?
Is there aby chance You Would be keen on just buying the vfr?
Icemaestro

Also, the guy I swapped tanks etc with has just put up his side fairings up in the same scheme on trademe for 30$ each, the right one is in better condition than mine so would be a great option for the future buyer ( or me if no ones jumpin to buy it after a week or two)

K's on a 600 don't really matter, as long as the maintenance has been kept up.
It takes forever to clock up big k's heading to the shops, but if you use a bike for long trips, then they clock up quickly, and funny old thing, long trips are what they love, and are good at.
Will get some pics together.
A 600 is a doddle to ride compared to the VFR. Essentially you are sitting more upright, and as the VFR has a little more torque than the CBR400, you are already used to the extra torque. It is just that the HP means it will propel the 600 to over 250k if you leave the throttle open down a runway... and that is with my 100kg on it.
Yes, I am in Bulls, but it is only 5 hours away....
BUT, yes, I could well consider just buying it outright, your VFR is a fine example.... it is space in the garage that is an issue....

Cool, I have in laws down in palmy that probably wouldn't mind us coming to see them on a weekend some time if it came to that. I can't seem to find any examples on here of that year though? how different is the 98/99 model? Wouldn't mind sitting on one/going for a test ride first
Understand about the garage space!
The kms is purely for resale value.

.
It goes like this:
In 1987 the CBR600FH was released. In America these were called the Hurricane (Not what the H stood for, as the h designates the year).
Then in 1990 they got a bit of a Make over and released as the CBR600FM. I haven't seen many of these, but they have white wheels.
In 1991 the CBR600FN was releases, and called the Super Sport in some markets. Also known as the F2. These has Red Wheels, and 100BHP. The first 600 ever to make such a claim. Most are called 1992 models (as it was Septemberish 1991 they came here).
Then in 1993 (FP) they got new rear shocks and black wheels, and a colour change as well as loosing a little weight.
In 1994 they lost more weight, got new forks, and a colour change.
In 1995 the F3 was released. It was called the CBR600FS?
THe plastic was changed, and some other stuff, as it got a huge make-over.
In 1998/9 the F4 was released, and it is essentially the same formula for riding position as the 1991 version, but by now they are much lighter due to the use of more alloy around the place, including the frame.
Then in 2001 the F4i came out. i is for injection...
It wasn't until 2003 that the CBR600 changed shape completely.
Note: This is brief to give you an idea.
Hope this helps.

He just added pictures and it's pretty clear that it isn't even how he described it. There are scratches and the belly pan is completely broken. What must he have paid for it to want that much now?

can someone take a shot of a stock VFR400 NC30 petrol tap, and post it up? The left side of the bike where you change it from on, to reserve and to off?
on mine, I noticed on sunday that it goes well when the wee arrow part is horizontal, pointing to the rear of the bike, with the word "OFF" in the up position. I can turn it counterclockwise 90 degress from there so the arrow points up, or the other way so it points down. I wonder if someone has had the tap apart, and put the thing on upside down? dunno: but I would like to compare it to a stock one.
mines had the HRC mod to it as well so I need really to make sure off is actually off, rather than on...
Oh, and $24.95 and a couple hours labour spent repacking Mr muffler has made a massive difference to the obnoxiousness of the bike. Worst part of the job was chasing all the threads with a tap and die before reassembly.

In other news, I nearly have enough parts now for a rolling chassis for a VFR400.
NOw to find a set of RZ350 crankcases.....
Icemaestro
11th October 2011, 21:22
The fact it can turn 90deg each was from the supposed 'off position' is how it's meant to be...however it is the 90deg turn anticlockwise which is supposed to be on, and 90deg anticlockwise that is reserve..so would suggest it hasn't been put back together right when they did the mod. Can't think right now what they would have messed up but when I re did my tap with new inside bits
I had to re arrange things too and just went off microfiche parts pictures etc...

Btw rode a hyosung gt650 comet and really didn't like it!:-p also wasn't impressed by the front forks, crappy brakes and lack of oomph on the sv400 :-( hence
Why I'm leaning towards a cbr600..dm, you able tO give your 2c on the 2001 cbr600f on tm for 4300 an then see my question in my thread 'wtb cbr600f'?
